  1. Miley looked good in that first inning. cutter was really moving in to right handed hitters.
  2. I would assume it's a lot of the same options they have this season. They'll need ~10 SPs again next season Burnes, Anderson, Davies, and Chacin all feel like locks to make the opening day rotation assuming no trades. Nelson will be given every opportunity to pitch in the rotation if he's healthy. Peralta probably starts out in AAA, but first line of rotation depth. Woodruff might start in the bullpen, but also part of that first line of rotation depth. Probably another Miley type deal as well (maybe even Miley himself if they resign him) Guerra is probably tendered, but may be at risk of getting cut in spring training. He's likely cheap enough to hang onto though. Wheeler is still a guy I'd want the Brewers to target on the trade market. Pomeranz might be an interesting name to watch on the FA market. Coming off a bad/injured season, but has had a lot of success previously.
  3. Agreed that Thames just doesn't deserve starts right now. Braun has been great in August. 169 wRC+. Aguilar has been solid too. 122 wRC+ in August. Thames has a wRC+ of 9 in August.
  4. Brewers catch a break for at least tonight. No Votto yet.
  5. If they keep Miley and Chacin on an every 5th day routine they'd both get 6 more starts. I think that's probably best. If they can get Anderson to pitch in both Cubs series that would be ideal as well since He's pitched really well vs them this season. It's very likely that Peralta and Guerra have two GS and Anderson 1 GS before the next off day. So that leaves them with 13 starts to figure out between Guerra, Anderson, Peralta, and maybe Davies/Woodruff/true bullpen days. My guess is they probably don't do anything too aggressive other than keep Chacin and maybe Miley on an every 5th day schedule.
  6. man, i have a horrible record. 4-9 i think I have tickets to 4 more games. They're going to go 4-0 in those though.
  7. I don't know what to make of the case against Cephus. I don't see any motivation for these women to make false claims against him. In general, false claims of rape are rare.
  8. I wonder how aggressive they'll be with shuffling the rotation in September. Having every Thursday off would allow them to skip guys and insert in guys for potentially what they feel would be a more favorable match up. At this point I'm not all that confident in anyone outside of Chacin and Miley.
  9. Of any of the NL contenders the Cubs were probably the best case scenario. At this point the Brewers are more directly competing with Philly, STL, Colorado, Arizona, LAD, and ATL.
  10. Schoop gets hot in September, that is a huge bonus. Fun with arbitrary end points: In Schoop's last 10 games. he's hitting .304/.360/.609. (155 wRC+) If the OBP continues the rest of the way that will be huge. (obviously the slugging is way spike because of the 2 bombs in a 25 PA sample)
  11. Goal for 2018- make the playoffs. Even a game 163 tie breaker would feel pretty good. Anything less will be disappointing. Expectations moving forward. I think they need to reel off 3-4 playoff appearances in 18-21. A lot of the future success will depend on the development of Burnes, Peralta, and Woodruff (although I'm thoroughly lost as to what they want out of Woodruff going forward). Additionally, does Jimmy ever pitch effectively in the MLB again will be a huge factor as well.
  12. If the Brewers miss the playoffs this season I will be very disappointed. I think I miscalculated a little bit on how good this rotation could be this year, but some things didn't play out. I don't know the thought process of Stearns and co, but I felt that Davies and Anderson were going to be stabilizing figures in the rotation this season and were the two most dependable starters for this team in 2018. The two have been anything but. Davies has been injured and ineffective when pitching. Anderson has been inconsistent and had his fair share of blow ups with very few stretches of quality production. I also thought Nelson might come back this season even though i didn't have much faith in him being a big contributor in the amount of innings or quality of production. If he had made it back this season it would have given me a little more hope for him to pitch quality inning in 2019, but now that's a pretty big question mark. I think Stearns has some questions to answer when it comes to the 2019 staff if he wants to take a step forward. Woodruff, Peralta, and Burnes should all be in the rotation next year, but that's dangerous for a team who wants to contend. If those three are in the rotation, that only leaves 2 spots for Davies, Anderson, Guerra, Chacin, and Nelson. I'm not married to Guerra. He's been useful the year, but he's probably the guy they're least invested in due to age and contract situation. Davies is a guy they could upgrade over. He's probably not much of an option out of the pen. He probably doesn't have much trade value given his injury plagued 2018, but he's too good to non-tender. He's probably the most interesting name to follow this off season. Anderson is someone they might be able to trade given his relatively cheap control and average numbers this season. Given what he'd likely return though, I'd just assume hang onto him and hope he bounces back in 2019. Chain could probably work out of the bullpen effectively given his highly effective slider however given how good he has been this season he will have to get bumped from that starting role due to poor performance. Nelson is a big wild card. Given the severity of that shoulder injury it's entirely possible he is never an effective pitcher again. We know you need ~10 SP to get through a season so depth is important. The interesting question is how the Brewers move forward with the 3 young starters. If they're not going to pitch them out of the rotation will they move them in a trade for a more established starter? The free agent market does have some interesting names including Morton, Kuechel, Happ, Corbin, Eovaldi, etc. Kuechel and Corbin are probably out of the Brewers price range. Drew Pomeranz seems like a David Sterns type move. Buy low on a guy coming off an injured/ineffective season who has a history of success. I wouldn't be opposed to a Wade Miley reunion as well.
  13. Arcia should be playing every game started by Wade Miley. The rest should be a match up game based on the opposing SP. He should be entering every game as a defensive replacement when they have a lead. I agree with you though. a ~700 OPS from Arcia would be acceptable as an everyday SS with very good-elite defense at SS.
  14. Cain CF Yelich RF Aguilar 1b Braun LF Schoop 2b Shaw 3b Pina C Arcia SS Guerra P 3rd base is the biggest mystery. Counsell hasn't really shown a pattern here yet since Moustakas, Perez, and Shaw have all gotten a start at 3b against a lefty in the past week or so.
  15. Likely activated from DL: Davies, Albers, Williams September calls ups: Woodruff seems like a lock, Wilkerson, Asher, and Houser all seem somewhat likely. Catcher- whether it's Nottingham or they need to make a roster move to get another catcher on the 40-man, I have to assume they'll roll with 3 catchers in September. Saladino, Broxton, and Santana (these guys all feel like a lock) That would put the active roster at 36 guys. Maybe only 1-2 of those pitchers get the call up if Davies, Albers, and Williams all return. Woodruff
  16. Man, Chase looked great the first two innings and now complete trash in the 3rd.
  17. Clayton Richard isn't exactly the type of lefty the Brewers need to evacuate all lefties out of the line up for so it will be interesting to see what Counsell does with the line up. My prediction: Cain CF Yelich RF Aguilar 1b Braun LF Shaw 3b Schoop 2b Pina C Arcia SS Anderson P
  18. The team's struggles on Sundays have been particularly disappointing for me since I mostly go to Sunday games. The team is 2-9 in games I've attended this season. 1-1 on Mondays 0-1 on Fridays 1-0 on Saturdays 0-5 on Sundays
  19. I don't think there really is a need to add a LOOGY to the pen. I don't think they really need one to get through the rest of the season. If they get to the playoffs, Hader/Soria/Jeffress/Knebel and maybe Burnes are going to be pitching the important innings. Lefties are hitting 216/.269/.294 against Jennings over 94 batters faced. So between Jennings facing almost exclusively lefties and letting those other guys face R and L handed hitters I think they'l be ok.
  20. I agree. I wouldn't want the Brewers to trade/dfa him. The money is already spent. Ride him out until the contract ends. I like Braun and want him add to the highlight reel of important home runs in september/october. Just don't count on him being anything more than a bench/platoon bat going forward.
  21. Bullpen probably a tad thin tonight. Hader almost certainly still unavailable. JJ and Soria probably unavailable too. Luckily the Dodgers have a ton of lefties so Jennings could be pretty useful for even multiple innings vs them. Getting some runs will help.
  22. I think you're probably right. Yelich and Hader + 1 or 2 of the best prospects.
