  1. I'm bummed. He was at the top of my wish list for the past month or so. I'm interested to see what the cost was.
  2. Not exactly because sequencing and luck matters too, but ya I would certainly like to add Wheeler.
  3. I think the Brewers would prefer that, too, but there has to be a #1 available, which may not be the case right now. Last year, the Brewers got a lousy break, losing Nelson too late in the year to deal for a replacement - I don't expect Stearns to get a guy, just because he's a pitcher, but I also doubt he's willing to risk a lack of depth in the rotation again. Suter is gone, Davies is a maybe, Miley has had health issues this year, and Guerra recently went down .... I don't care to see Jeremy Jeffress start a game in September again. It "feels" like a lateral move to me. Couldn't we insert Woodruff into the rotation and give us similar production to what Wheeler could? I I wish the club would give some of our younger guys more of a chance than what they are getting. Well they could just insert Woodruff into the rotation if a need arises, but if Nelson and Davies don't pitch in 2018 their depth is razor thin right now. Basically Woodruff and Wilkerson. If Peralta starts to struggle or hits an innings limit then you're down to Aaron Wilkerson, Jorge Lopez, and Adrian Houser once Woodruff enters the rotation.

  5. 3.65 DRA, 3.68 FIP in 114.1 innings. Good k% and average bb%. I think he is at the very least useful and best case might be their best starter. Probably take Peralta's spot in the immediate future. Losing Suter till likely 2020 hurts the rotation depth. Davies and Nelson don't have a time line for return. Nelson's future is very much in question with that shredded shoulder. I think it makes a lot of sense to add Wheeler.
  6. I'm not sure it's all that light. Cabrera really doesn't have much trade value. Ortiz is probably the best prospect they'd need to give up. They'd probably have to do better on the next piece than Grisham though. More likely some one like Phillips. Just my guess.
  7. I would assume Hiura becomes the primary second baseman at some point in 2019. So Merrifield is the primary second baseman for probably a month or so and then plays 4 days a week between the OF and second base. Unless they acquire Merrifield and are able to include Hiura in a package for deGrom during the off season, but then you're still probably taking out 4 of your best 5 prospects for those 2 trades.
  8. Man, those late signings that many (including myself) were clamoring for have been... errr... really bad. Lynn, Cobb, and Holland.
  9. Merrifield was always a weird deadline target. Sinking in prospect capital for a guy who is likely to be your lead utility man next year just didn't make a lot of sense to me. Don't get me wrong. A good utility man would be a huge asset to this team. If the Brewers had Zobrist instead of Perez I'd be stoked. I just don't think investing prospects for a utility man is the right way to go. Would rather just sign one in free agency or just live with a replacement level type guy like Perez.
  10. I think a trade involving Gibson would take a top 10 organizational prospect. I think he and Wheeler would have similar trade value and I would be happy with either. I think they would definitely be able to hold onto Hiura, Burnes, Peralta, and maybe Ray but after that they probably need to include one of the next guys like Ortiz, Erceg, or Lutz. Overall I'm right on board with you. My wish list is similar with the Mets and Twins matching up best. In order of priority: 1) Escobar or Cabrera 2) Gibson or Wheeler 3) Dozier if Escobar or Cabrera doesn't happen
  11. I have no interest in Harvey. If the Brewers trade for Harvey I would hope it's more of a lottery ticket type guy.
  12. If the Brewers don't acquire a MI before the deadline I could totally see Murphy as an August trade candidate if the Nationals don't gain any ground. If they're motivated to get under the tax shedding a few million for lottery ticket type player makes sense. Murphy is making $17.5 million this year and he very well could clear waivers.
  13. Roster moves today will certainly be interesting. Let's assume there are no DL moves. Barnes seems like leading candidate number one. Miller or Saladino (both can be optioned) are probably next in line. Both SF and LAD have large outfields. Probably nice to keep Broxton around as a defensive sub and he very well may get the start tonight for Cain after he got a little banged up last night.
  14. Hamels is better than Farrell, but I'm not too worried about the Cubs getting him. Best case he's fine. Worst case he's left off the post season roster.
  15. It isn't all bad. D-backs losing is good at least. There's your west bend silver lining.
  16. This is a good trade. If you're really upset about losing Medeiros you should probably not follow the trade deadline lol. It's disappointing that a first round pick didn't really work out, but dude is a future reliever and is one of those guys who needed to be added to the 40 man this year. I'm not too torn up about it. Soria should help the team quite a bit this year. I have to imagine they'll decline his option though.
  17. Wheeler has a 3.65 DRA and 3.68 FIP. I've convinced myself that I want him. With Suter needing tommy john surgery that not only affects the rotation depth for this season, but also next season. I think any effective innings from Davies or Nelson this season are a long shot. He isn't going to cost Ray, Peralta, Burnes, or Huira so I would pull the trigger on this trade.
  18. Soria and Shields feel like mid August salary dump type trades. I doubt a prospect of any consequence is warranted.
  19. If the Mets are willing to move Wheeler for a reasonable price he could be a solid addition in the wake of losing Suter for the year and Davies having another setback. Rotation depth basically down to Woodruff and Wilkerson. I still think they can make the playoffs with the guys they have, but the depth is getting very thin. Zack Wheeler has a 3.65 DRA and 3.68 FIP. Solid K% and average BB%. He;s under team control through 2019. He's a guy the Mets SHOULD move. We'll see if they do.
  20. No way. This team can't afford to trade away one of their best 3-4 hitters.
  21. lol, ya. I missed the Phillips transaction as well. Aguilar and Thames both coming off some nagging injuries. Day game after a night game. I could still see Braun getting in for one of them although there will be a couple chances for Braun to get in the line up in SF since they are facing 2 lefties in that series.
  22. Kratz probably gets in the line up today. I wonder if they get Phillips in the line up for Cain or Thames.
  23. I don't think the Brewers can afford to take the risk on Gray for the remainder of the year (that's IF the Yankess are actually motivated to cut bait). You're not replacing Guerra, Chacin, Peralta, Anderson, or even Miley in the rotation right now for Gray. Still have Woodruff as the next man up or Wilkerson in a pinch. MIGHT get Davies and/or Nelson to give you some useful innings in August or September. Once they get to August they have an off day every week until the end of the season. They will have the opportunity if needed to skip guys or rely more heavily on the bullpen like they did early in the season. Taking on a semi reclamation project in August during the thick of a playoff race doesn't interest me. If they want to revisit it in the off season I would absolutely be up for it, but not right now. As for Drury, I'm not interested in him when it comes to this season. Has a decent track record and an option so he would provide some roster flexibility, but I'd prefer Escobar, Dozier, or Cabrera at this point.
