  1. As a fan, I would prefer to just avoid that can of worms. I just don't think the bad press is worth the reward of upgrading over Taylor Williams.
  2. Before we traded for Wheeler, i'd rather Stearns/Counsell simply tried Burnes in the rotation. Just like this year, they'll need ~10 SP to get through the season. Adding Wheeler helps restore the depth this season and next since we know Suter is likely down till 2020.
  3. I've been on the Wheeler koolaid the past week or so. I hope it happens.
  4. Shaw shouldn't really be starting against lefties. Villar is still on the DL. Perez and Saladino have ben about a wash recently. /shrug
  5. I have no problem with BA getting days off or doing national games. He's the best pxp guy they've had they've had as far as I'm concerned. Additionally, the dude is a hustler. He calls games all year long. Give the guy a break that he's not calling 155+ games for the Crew.
  6. Some batted ball luck in that inning and Yelich makes them count. 3-0 lead feels good.
  7. I believe he was over 5 years of service time, which means he could refuse optional assignment. He was a little short of 5 years when he was optioned the first time. Good point. Totally forgot about that, but alas it's much more fun to speculate about needing the 40 man spot
  8. I do think they'll utilize the weekly off days in August and September to lean on their bullpen a bit. Not sure how aggressive they'll be with skipping starts.
  9. So I don't have any issue with batting Arcia 9th. I think it makes sense. I don't think Counsell has done it since his first year managing the Brewers though. He's been asked about it and he said the numbers don't support that it makes any difference.
  10. He could have been optioned. Need that 40 man spot for another trade though!
  11. This is what would do with the line up, but I don't think this is how Counsell will do it. Thames RF/LF Yelich RF/LF Cain CF Moustakas 3b Aguilar 1b Shaw 2b Kratz C Arcia SS Chacin P I think Moustakas, Shaw, and Thames all need to be split in the line up. I don't want a lefty reliever coming in and getting to face them back to back without having to face a righty in between. Yelich hits lefties well so I'm not concerned with him being back to back with Thames. I also think having Shaw and Moustakas split in the line up opens up a little more flexibility when it comes to double switches/defensive replacements once they get to the bullpen. Then Counsell can make a decision on who would be best to stay in the game at 3rd late in the game and if they're split in the line up one guy might make much more sense than the other.
  12. This feels like a complicated a risky solution to a seemingly simple problem. I mean I guess Asdrubal Cabrera does grade out horribly at 2b and Escobar hasn't played THAT much 2b this year, but I'm still skeptical. Additionally, Moustakas is basically a platoon bat just like Shaw. Weird move all around.
  13. So I don't think this is the best solution to their middle infield issues.
  14. He's 27 and former top prospect who has made 30 starts the past two seasons? Change of scenery guy. I'm not stoked about it as a deadline move. Would be happier about it as an off season move with a little more margin for error.
  15. Rosenthal just tweeted that the Brewers are in serious talks with the Orioles. He didn't know if Gausman or Schoop was the target.
  16. Ya, honestly if they were to acquire him he could even be flipped in the off season.
  17. Man, the line up tonight isn't surprising since Bumgarner is starting and Cain was questionable to play, but actually seeing it on paper is hideous lol. Broxton Yelich Aguilar Braun Saladino Perez Pina Arcia Anderson
  18. Schoop worries me a little bit since he doesn't walk so he's dependent on a high batting average to have a passable OBP. The power would certainly help at 5th or 6th in this line up though. He's pretty expensive and will get more expensive next season. He has no positional flexibility. I'd assume Hiura is ready at some point early next season. Not sure where Schoop fits on the roster in 2019.
  19. Counsell said on MLB Network Radio that he's hopeful Cain will play tonight. They'll examine him tonight prior to making that decision. Nothing serious, but they'll be cautious.
  20. Barnes optioned and Soria activated. Wonder if Albers is activated tonight as well.
  21. That's a lot more of a return than I was expecting for Cabrera. That's a good return for the Mets. I wanted Escobar and Cabrera more than the other guys potentially available, but there's still plenty out there.
  22. Well this didn't age well. Cabrera traded to the Phillies lol
  23. That's a lot of 2B competition for a market that I was told didn't exist. I don't know where Cabrera would play for the Braves given Camargo and Albies are both having really good seasons. Phillies actually need a SS. Fanco and Hernandez have been solid. If they want cabrera to come in and play SS for them I say more power to them. Red sox weren't mentioned and they theoretically have a need too. Dozier and Cabrera will definitely be moved. Throw Moustakas in that group since Phillies and Braves could theoretically be interested in a third baseman as well. Daniel Murphy might be available too, especially once we get to August. Scooter and Castro are guys who might get moved too. There's enough of a pool of available guys that the Brewers will get someone. That return for Escobar has some upside, but it's nothing that would have a long term impact on the organization.
  24. I know Dozier has the track record, but I can't imagine his value is much if at all higher. He isn't hitting nearly as well and doesn't have the positional flexibility. He's also not a switch hitter. I also don't think he gets a QO as it stands right now so that's not a real bargaining chip.
  25. That's obviously a deal the Brewers could've beaten without killing the system. I have to imagine they're working on other players. #optimism.
