  1. They have been afraid of being denied access in retribution. I have always thought it strange the JS didn't ever say much about how the Packer org was so focused on expanding revenue when they were making boatloads of cash with no end in sight. This is the second article recently that has touched on them running things like a corporation rather than a football team. The massage thing sure won't look good on MM's resume. Wow
  2. How many times did Finley bring up the $200 million contract? Could be JMike is a little jealous.
  3. Pretty interesting article. Adds a lot to what we all knew or suspected, McCarthy was a gameday meathead whose offense was too simple and grew stale, his teams were soft. Rodgers is a smart guy who looks down on those less bright, we knew that going back to his feud with Favre. But that article sure fills in a heck of a lot more. The players did quit when Rodgers went down. It just adds a lot to how crappy a job Murphy has done overseeing things.
  4. I will say this, I am sure glad we didn't trade one of those young starters. Someone else brought it up in another thread but we could have pulled the trigger on Burnes or Woodruff for Machado but didn't. Plenty of us supported trading one of them for Realmuto. Heck, most of us thought the org didn't like Woodruff and were going to trade him for sure at the deadline last season. We usually have a prospect like these come up only every few years, Yo, Nelson, Wily come to mind and that was over how many years?
  5. I wasn't even close and reading through the whole thread now realize it was already answered, Lohse and Garza in 2014
  6. I don't know why Hader wouldn't be out in the 9th, are there some stats that say he shouldn't be out 2 days in row? I know it happened last year
  7. 2nd time Braun had a nice game and they put Gamel in the next night, Braun will likely get an AB but hate to see him sit when he is hitting well. I think he will end up on the IL a couple of times whether they rest him twice a week or not.
  8. I'm trying to think who would be the best option. I don't like the idea of any of them being pulled from the rotation. Burnes certainly seems like he'd be the best reliever. He was effectively a RH'ed Hader late last year, but he does have 4 pitches and the upside to make him an ace(I'd argue all 3 young arms could be low end aces or #2, though they're still a long way away from that). It'll almost certainly be one of them, probably Woodruff as I don't think Davies is much more valuable in the pen. Really excited to see how this team has jumped out to a 4-1 start though with the bad news that came right before the season started. I don't think the decision will be based on who could be the best reliever, rather who is the worst starter. I would be surprised if that was Burnes or Woodruff, seems like Davies going into the season but watching one time though the rotation Peralta could be an option as well. I think it is few weeks out yet for Nelson anyway, by then someone could be injured or the decision could look like an easy one.
  9. Braun was always sort of beat up even in his prime years, it seemed like he was always playing through something and had to be shut down for a week or so every year, some have speculated the PEDs were about that rather than performance. The extension hasn't been great but like you say not an albatross either. And at least for me it means something having one of our all time greats being a part of these contending teams. And we don't know the end yet, it's not that big of reach to think he could put up like 2 WAR each of the next 2 years which isn't playing too far under his salary. I don't disagree with you on not extending Yelich right now but I don't think the Braun contract really stands out as such a disaster that we have to avoid ever doing something like it again. They knew there was risk of not getting great seasons toward the end but rewarded a guy who was the face of the franchise at the time and looked like a future HOF.
  10. Well right now I am thinking those 31-34 years might be pretty good. But it doesn't make sense for either side right now, the Brewers would need a discount to extend so early and Yelich is already a rich man, he doesn't need the security so much anymore. Maybe he doesn't like how things have went for some other 30ish free agents lately or fears some big change in the labor agreement but I doubt it. But after his NL and WS MVP's this season the Brewers might want to make him a long term centerpiece.
  11. Awesome!!! They got kind of confused with the cameras in the live play, didn't know if the ball got past the CF, but loved the shot of Cain running around third and scoring. What an opening weekend!! whew
  12. I was actually expecting aguilar to come through there, he seemed to have a couple of good cuts and he's one of those guys who you can tell when he has a good bead on a pitcher. Then he swung at a pitch at eye level and let him off the hook. Frustrating.
  13. Sounds like they came close to winning a couple of times but it seems odd that they would let an easy one go by resting guys when they haven't clinched home court yet. I guess they can play guys tomorrow but that doesn't make sense since this was the easy one so really seems like they will rest guys again and likely they will lose both. I don't imagine it will matter but my choice would be to get it done now and rest guys the rest of the way. But I guess there is something to be said for keeping guys sharp, they can take care of Atlanta and Brooklyn at home.
  14. I thought maybe Bonds would have done that but the closest he came was .328 73 137. Pretty tough to put a trio of huge numbers like that together but with his spring and start I am starting to believe Yelich may be closer to the player of the 2nd half of last year than his previous years. His power seems so effortless, never thought he could be a 40 homer guy when we traded for him. Was thinking last night I still can't believe we actually acquired a player that good with so many years control.
  15. Hyde was pretty good the year after he left. I was actually sort of mad they let Lang go, they replaced him with an older vet playing out the string like Jeff Saturday and the OL had a bad year. But you make a good point, the only guys in the TT era(other than QB or K) they gave large third contracts to that I remember were Jordy and Woodson(not the Packers 3rd but an aging star), Jordy promptly blew out his knee and then had one decent year before declining. Woodson was good for awhile but then they dumped him at the first sign of aging. Maybe they flushed some money down the toilet with Clifton at the end. Clay may surprise you, I think he is still a pretty good player but it was time to move on.
  16. I know we have a thread on it already but that trade could be as big for them as Yelich was for us. He makes that lineup so much better, that first at bat against Peralta was agonizing, I was just hoping to hold him to a double off the wall. 1-1, no reason to panic. Peralta was sure disappointing though.
  17. It's possible Allen could drop to around 5 where the Packers could actually get to trading both the firsts but with all the money they just spent on the edge rushers I just don't see them using that much draft capital and the larger contract those high picks get on him. But I would be pretty excited if they did. If there is a run on QB's above the Packs pick there should be some great value around #15, that's maybe where we should think of trading up to. Imagine landing both Hockensen and Oliver and only spending our second rounder to move up. We would still have holes to fill but that would be a major upgrade on both sides of the ball.
  18. I have a convenient grocery store across the street so I go over there at least every other day if not more. There is crosswalk that has one of those nifty pedestrian signals that gives you a countdown until the traffic signal will change. The problem is it only works if someone actually pushes the button, mind you it doesn't change any timers on the traffic signal as it is bottleneck area so all the lights are on timers or there will be major traffic problems. So if you approach when there are red lights but if no one has pushed the button you can either take your chances, in which case it the light will turn green when you are halfway across, or you can wait and after about 30 seconds you realize you could have made it and now have to wait with arms full of groceries for another 3-4 minutes under the sweltering ******* sun. Meanwhile the light on the next block down gives you the walk signal and countdown every time whether someone pushes the button or not. It's stupid.
  19. Looking forward to seeing Freddy pitch, getting Carpenter out in the first would be a great start. My memory may be a little off but in that last Cardinal series last year we went with a lefty to get Carpenter out and then put Peralta in who was stellar but they let Carpenter get a second look at him and he made them pay.
  20. Wow, what a finish, looked like a fly out off the bat and then thought oh crap! Then yeaaaaaaaahhhh!!!!
  21. I actually think we're selling high on Ray. He had a big bounce back year last year. If we wait, he may improve his value. He may also revert back to the sub .700 OPS guy that he's been at every other level he's been at rather than the 801 OPS he posted last year. Plus, with Ray, is his value really going to improve in AAA? He's pretty close to losing most of his value. If he has a so-so year, he becomes less of a prospect and more of a 4th OF candidate. I think the window to trade Ray is closing pretty quickly. In this scenario, at least you get two really talented power relievers. To be fair I am not that familiar with the primary target in the proposed trade other than his stats, I guess it could be good value for Ray. But my general impression is that Ray does not get credit for being the toolsy CF prospect he is, at least going by the fact that no one has him in a top 100 list right now. There are a lot of teams that could use an .800 OPS above average defensive CF but I feel like right now his trade value is closer to the 4th OF candidate you think he may become than a top prospect. If they are going to sacrifice his potential ceiling it shouldn't be a knee jerk decision like this would feel. Like I say I disagree he isn't needed here, we just traded Broxton and his floor is a left handed Broxton which isn't all that bad. He is not next man up right now due to his 40 man status but if Cain were to go down long term I think he would be up in a hurry.
