  1. I'd take Happ over Miley, assuming it was for no more than two years. Happ's been one of the top pitchers in the game over the last 4 seasons. He's had a 14.1 total WAR over that time. Miley had 16 very good starts as a Brewer and a very good postseason but he's one year removed from a 5.61 ERA. I would assume Miley would come cheaper but taking another look at Happ's stats his K/9 was pretty good last year. Still I feel like he would be a mid rotation type guy the next couple of years considering his age, I know they would probably like a southpaw in the rotation but it's possible Davies could be just as good the next couple of years and much cheaper. We have the young guys to get into the rotation as well as Nelson we hope. I guess I can see it if we deal some of the young pitchers though.
  2. I didn't say I wanted to trade him, just speculating on something that may get it done. You have to admit our pitching staff would look pretty sweet with Syndergaard at the top. Plus it would clear up a spot for Harper.
  3. What if we offered them Cain in a package for Syndergaard? That would seem to fit a need for the Mets, Cain's WAR the next 3 years could be as good as Thor's. He would cost a little more $ I think and there are concerns of decline with age so Brewers would have to add more. Cain and Hiura is too much? We could hang on to Broxton and play him and Yellich at center until hopefully Ray is ready soon plus we keep our young pitchers. I don't think the Brewers would trade Cain so really just for discussion on what it would take to get him but it seems like maybe giving up a nice major league piece may be the way to get the Mets to deal him as they are not as interested in prospects. As mentioned is posts above I don't think Aguilar or Santana could be that piece. I think Cain's no trade clause kicks in later in his contract although I may have that flipped.
  4. No. I generally disagree, especially considering i think burnes is more valuable than hiura. But realistically one of those 2 is probably a centerpiece. While I don't disagree with your value argument I don't think the Mets would accept a pitcher at the top of the deal when the whole reason they would be selling is because they are flush with major league starters and pitching prospects. As the second piece sure so maybe Woodruff/Peralta would fit there. But who knows, these deals usually end up being more quantity than just going down prospects #1-2-3 like us and writers propose, maybe we sign Moose or Donaldson and Shaw becomes a big piece in the deal.
  5. I don't see anyway they give him up without getting an elite prospect. A midseason proposal from a Mets writer above was Hiura, Burnes, and Ray, probably still a competitive package since Burnes and Hiura's values have increased like Syndergaard's but I don't know why the Mets would even move him anymore. They can deal Wheeler and sign free agents to fix their issues.
  6. I sure hope this is just kicking the tires with Happ as we reportedly look into everything. If this was our big offseason splash I would be pretty disappointed. Rather resign Miley.
  7. Sheesh man you know it's the offseason when a thread like this can maintain life. Woof
  8. How about not taking the prospects back but giving them Anderson and getting back say $25 million? 3/70 is probably an overpay but Anderson's salary would help this year, you don't resign Chacin in 2020, and Braun would give us some savings in 21. Plus since we plan on developing our cheap young guys in the rotation anyway it doesn't kill us to have the one high payed guy at the top. I think Greinke will age well, it's a pretty big gamble but I like it better than the prospect load it would take us to get DeGrom/Kluber/etc. I guess it would limit our options for offense upgrades though.
  9. What is Woodruff's service time status? I know we were all baffled by him not being brought up in August when we seemed to need a starter but he got maybe more service time then they wanted in 17 by going directly to the DL after being called up. Maybe putting him in the AAA/MLB bullpen shuffle was a way of saving a year down the road? In Baseball reference they list his earliest FA as 2025.
  10. Yep, Anderson always a risk for crippling dingers, Sutor would look great for 5 and then couldn't get an out, Davies/Miley hurt, Guerra always labors through a couple of innings, etc. Just a lot of guys who would have put stress on the pen had the schedule not worked out so well for us and Hader not been such a weapon. I am very hopeful we will turn the corner with the rotation this coming season though. This Cubs coach sounds OK.
  11. Yes at this point it just seems highly unlikely that we trade for him - since Braves can easily match/beat any of our offers. Which, since it appears that we would definitely be giving up Burnes or Hiura, is fine by me. Agreed, when I read the Braves would refuse to give up their top prospects I thought it was good for the Brewers until I looked at their second tier of prospects. Sure we would could compete with a Woodruff/Peralta and Ray type offer but the Braves could top that without having to give up too much of their prospect depth. And really all of the big 3 pitchers and Hiura are needed here so I would rather look at other ways to improve the offense. I think I am over the Realmuto hope for now.
  12. Yes if it is that second tier of prospects and only 2 of them it seems like the Brewers could get a competitive package together. Interesting the Brewers are not one of the teams mentioned as contacting the Marlins though.
  13. This article says Marlins asking for a high end pitching prospect and a position player. Speculates that Marlins would ask about top 2 Braves pitching and position prospects(Soroka,Wright,Riley, and Pache) but would be told no and would move to the next tier of prospects. https://www.fishstripes.com/2018/11/7/18071862/braves-marlins-jt-realmuto-trade-offer-top-prospects-rumors
  14. If the Marlins would take that package for Realmuto I would be all for it. An opportunity to acquire Realmuto while keeping both Hiura and Burnes would be too tough to pass up, IMO. I don't know that Ray is a fit for the Marlins or if Turang can be traded yet but in pure value I think Miami should be all over that offer. That is arguably more than we gave up for 5 years of Yellich. None of those guys are slam dunks but that is a ton of ceiling.
  15. I just don't see any way the Marlins give him up without a top 50 prospect or some sort of equivalent like one of our big 3 rookie pitchers, maybe Aguilar does it but I doubt it. I like Pina but the offense sunk us at the end and Realmuto checks a lot of boxes for our chances next season. But there are other ways to get it fixed without giving up something ridiculous like prospects #1, #3 and #5, those trades don't happen much anyway outside of an ace and I think Realmuto would already be traded if he had the value some are suggesting here. I do like the idea of a Ramos type free agent signing, not sure that is the best FA deal they can find but I don't understand why the Brewers are under some sort of salary cap for 2019, no reason they can't bump up to $150 million to make a run.
  16. I think giving up Peralta as the second key player to get the deal done is something many here may consider a worthy sacrifice but I can't get past 102 K's in 84 major league innings as a 22 year old. That's enough of a sample size for me to say he shouldn't get moved unless it is part of a package for a TOR starter. You are right Burnes should be untouchable and Woodruff is a flame throwing horse, again just a player I wouldn't give up unless it is for a pitcher. We have struggled for so long to develop our own pitchers I just can't stomach the thought of moving any of these guys for a 2 year rental catcher but I can see the other side of the argument as well. To me Hiura at the top of the trade should be enough to get it done with some other pieces, be it Lutz/Supak/Nottingham type prospects or maybe a mix of prospects with some major league guys like Davies or Santana. If someone tops that we move on.
  17. Again, this package is more than what we gave up for Yelich...therefore not even close to realistic. Brinson was ranked between 18-27 at the time of trade (bout the same as Hiura), Harrison between 49-75 with Isan Diaz as a back end top 100 guy (same general range as the three Ps have been ranked) & Yamamoto as the depth piece. Fangraphs had Realmuto at 24 on their 2018 trade value rankings & Yelich at 22...therefore just about the same. If you go by the prospect ratings what you say makes sense but Burnes/Woodruff/Peralta aren't prospects anymore. They have had success in the major leagues, their value now is certainly more than Harrison/Diaz at this point last off season in my opinion. For comparison I think Hader's ratings had dropped a bit when he was called up last season but by the end of the season he had quite bit more value once he proved the K rate carried over and he could get ML players out. I also can't help but to go back to what we got for a year and a half of Lucroy when discussing Realmuto. Plenty of talk about how tough it was to acquire catchers at his level but the return ended up less than we had hoped and it took months to trade him. Realmuto's price could drop as well if we are patient.
  18. I think the Brewers would give up way too much there, it seems like you are adding Peralta+Ray in place of Hiura, I would think those 2 combined have more value than him. That is 2 of our top 5 prospects and if Peralta hadn't graduated he would probably be ranked above them. Maybe they have to give up similar value but it would be more quantity like the Yellich trade. Ray and Erceg plus a couple of guys ranked in 10-20 range seems more like what you usually see in trades like this. You could be right that is what it would take but I don't think the Brewers would give up that much unless it was for a pitcher. I would love to have Merrifield as he would really fill a need but I don't think he is the player Yellich was when we traded for him. I guess he is cheaper though.
  19. I think I asked about this earlier in the thread because I am not sure how this work for young pitchers but isn't it the most innings pitched in any year? Burnes had 145 last season so if that's the number than I think 180 is certianly attainable and at that number I would think they could manage his innings to make sure he can pitch postseason when his starts would likely be shorter anyway.
  20. Aguilar had 3.2 bWar this season and Realmuto 4.3 and Aguilar has several more season of control remaining than Realmuto. I am not sure I disagree the Marlin's would not do this trade but Aguilar would be the big piece in place of Hiura. That said I would love that trade for the Brewers, probably means it would never happen.
  21. Totally agree. I didn't get too upset last night because I think we have such a bright future now. This late season run was amazing and a lot of fun. Sucks to fall short but this feels a lot different than 2011.
  22. I have been a proponent of making Hader a starter but the emergence of Woodruff, Burnes, and Peralta has changed my mind. I had thought Hader was our only chance of developing our own ace but these guys have more upside than I gave them credit for at mid season. 2 months ago I thought we were in a 2-3 year window and needed to trade for a deGrom this offseason to maximize our chances. Not anymore, the future is very bright for this pitching staff, just need to fix that offense which is a little easier.
  23. Sometimes it really amazes me how much success Aguilar has had this year when I watch him. He seems like such an easy strikeout when you need it, but I guess you could say that about a lot of Brewers this postseason.
  24. I guess the idea was the first guy he saw 3x got a hit. But yeah. If it were the 1st game maybe. The only thing I would really even kind of blame Counsell for is not allowing Miley even a little leeway. The guy just went through 18(?) straight, and the first hit he allows, he's gone. That's pretty tough. I know he wants to get to the Brewers' strength (or what had been the strength), but Miley allows one single and it's to the showers. I'd like him to show a little more confidence in him. I really don't question the decision but it did feel like bad mojo, Miley was lights out and just had a hit and scored, everything was going so right. I knew he would be pulled soon though, can't argue sticking with what got you here.
  25. I am a fan of Braun and really happy he is getting another shot. You can see how bad he wants to win, he knows this could be his last or best shot.
