  1. Adam Schefter is reporting that Kraft isn't the biggest name involved in this case. Please be Goodell, Please be Goodell. Or Brady
  2. Cooper vs Fielder is probably the most interesting debate in this, both had their career prime years during memorable Brewer runs. Cooper never hit 50 homers but he had three 200+ hit seasons. Cooper got MVP votes 5 consecutive years and Fielder 6 total but one was with Texas. For me it's Cooper because I was a teenager with great memories of those teams and was there to see him squeeze the final out in the ALCS. For younger guys I would guess it's Fielder.
  3. I think maybe the refs ruled that it was a catch and shoot by Lopez and he couldn't do that in .2, I don't know that I agree. The interesting thing to me was Boston not fouling to extend the game, a long 3 pointer that gets to the rim at the end of the shot clock would have ended it. Tough to execute that perfectly and the bucks didn't but even then the Celtics had to throw up a quick tough shot. To me you foul with 20 seconds left, hope the Bucks miss a FT and get the last shot with plenty of time.
  4. I would take Higuera over Sheets. Maybe Cooper over Prince?
  5. The way I see it, the Brewers' best bet is to start with Rotation: Chacin, Anderson, Burnes, Peralta, Woodruff Bullpen: Knebel, Jeffress, Hader, Claudio, Burnes, T. Williams, Guerra Nelson and Davies are among those sent to AAA - better to get them to shake of the rust down there. As they get the rust off, maybe move Peralta or Woodruff to the pen and get one or both up. Or maybe someone becomes trade-bait. My bet would be Chacin, Davies, Burnes, Woodruff, Anderson rotation to start. I hope Nelson is ready but my guess is they will bring him along slowly, maybe in the bullpen or at AAA as you suggest, when he is ready he will replace Anderson or whoever is doing the worst. Peralta is the #6 starter and starts at AAA unless they need him in the bullpen but he moved ahead of Woodruff in the pecking order last year so I could see him winning a spot as well. Really interested to see how this shakes out over the next few weeks.
  6. The bullpen uncharacteristically blowing game 2 is the one that sticks with me, I think it was Jeffress and Burnes. In a close series like that you can look at a lot of stuff, it sure felt like we had little hope once Puig hit that dinger in game 7, the offense was just in a funk at the worst time. Agree about the bullpen being gassed before the AS break, really the schedule fell really well for keeping the bullpen fresh other than that stretch. We can't count on that to happen again.
  7. I read somewhere that the Padres have somehow configured the contract so that the tax difference isn't really that big. They did the same with Hosmer. Not sure what they can do but they have high paid lawyers and accountants that can figure it out. I was surprised at the cost of living comment and quick google search says that the cost of living is slightly higher in Chicago then San Diego,17th vs 20th so pretty close. Weather aside I would choose a city like NY, LA, or Chicago if I was in that kind of salary stratosphere but then I like big city living and the bigger the better. Living rich in NYC would be a blast, no comparison to someplace like Milwaukee and younger high paid celebrities/athletes know this. Not sure about taxes but I doubt the difference is 30-40 million on that contract, I could be wrong though I have never lived in Illinois or California.
  8. Nice to see the team respond with Happ benched down the stretch, makes me feel better about the team beyond this season. I expect Davison will be the teams star and leading scorer next year but by the time they are seniors Reuvers may pass him, that guy has a ton of potential and gets better all the time.
  9. This team was really good down the stretch and probably the 2 best players that weren't coming back were Moose and Miley and with Miley at least we have the young pitchers knocking on the door. Really I would have been OK with the $15 million option since they passed on Schoop, 1 year deals like this are fine, if the season goes bad you can hopefully deal them and get prospects back for your buck. Heck in a perfect world Hiura goes all Ryan Braun and we have too many good hitters by midseason and could even trade someone while in first place. It seems like we have enough to power now that when we have to rest guys like Braun and Aguilar it doesn't hurt the lineup that much. Not a whole lot of downside here in my opinion, he makes the team better and sounds like he has good chemistry with his teammates.
  10. I am not a fan of his game either, it probably wouldn't be so glaring if we didn't already have a guy who can't shoot on the floor in Happ. Too many missed bunnies by the whole team again today but Iverson's early in the second half when he broke open down the middle of the lane was probably the worst. He just throws up so much garbage inside that never has a chance. Matthews got hot at the end and we couldn't match it, not really a devastating loss but always hate to break a winning streak especially in a game they could have won.
  11. Why? Is it Edgars fault the Mariners kept him in the minors until he was 27? He had a .900 OPS in AAA for his age 24 and 25 seasons. Oh yeah, not to mention he OBP'd .400 for 11 years and had a career 14.8 BB%. Compare that to Tony Gwynn's 7.7% career, that's an extra 800 AB's he didn't get. Or, 1.5 seasons just from WALKING. He certainly walked his way to the HOF, that OBP% is impressive and got him a ton of WAR as well. I guess I can't get past the PED's suspicions and think some of his career stats aren't that great HOF speaking. Comparing his and Braun's per 162 game averages Braun is the better player, maybe not a fair comparison for Edgar but I think most here would agree even without the PED issue Braun falls short in the counting stats due to his injury issues. Yet even a modest late career surge by Braun would push some of his stats beyond what Edgar accomplished. I am not trying to make this another Braun thread just comparing Martinez to a Brewer we know well. He stuck with the Mariners and they are a hard luck franchise like the Brewers so I am glad he got in for their fans, really I was just struck by his hit and hr numbers, considering how I remember him I thought he was more of a near 3000/400 type guy who was shunned because of his era and being a DH.
  12. I remember at least one poster here advocating selling high on him last offseason and I thought it was ridiculous. Then about August I thought damn we should have sold high. In the playoffs I trusted him more than Hader. I would probably do the deal proposed but I wouldn't extend him for anything much larger than that, rather play it by ear the next 3 years.
  13. Man no kidding, this should have been a story for like 2 days. The refs didn't want to make a call to decide the game and ended up blowing it, the Saints could have stopped the Rams on the last drive or not thrown a pick in OT. Move on.
  14. Just looking at his stats, Martinez had fewer homers than Braun and fewer hits than Surhoff. A lot of his other numbers are really good but considering the era and the suspicions others have brought up about the late career surge I wouldn't have voted for him. As a DH and professional hitter I think those counting stats should be better for HOF consideration.
  15. I don't get to watch that many games but I have seen him show flashes, he is a 7 footer who can shoot I would think there is some upside there as at least a role player. That he is buried on the bench for one of the best teams in the NBA is no reason to give him away. The report says the Bucks are still high on him and they did pick up his option.
  16. I think Greinke will age just fine and since it is not my money I think 3/70 is a fair price especially if they took Chase as part for the deal. Braun coming off the books would help with year 3. Not sure I would give up a prospect like Brown though but maybe a guy like Supak if they insisted on something to sell it to their fans. That said I really doubt there is anything to this and not sure we would really need to take a risk like this with our young starters moving into the rotation soon. It would definitely brighten our prospects for this season though, we were reportedly interested in Happ and while he is a bit cheaper I think Greinke is better.
  17. This has nothing to do with headphones or earbuds or whatever. People have been oblivious in grocery stores for 100 years. Some people are oblivious dicks, and they will always exist. LOL well you probably have a point, this guy probably wasn't doing anything different then other people you see in the grocery store all the time. But I guess it bugged me that he actually made a conscious effort to tune everyone around him out.
  18. Yeah I know, that is why I compared the 4th this year to a pick next year. I think he will get a 4th round comp type deal, off the top of my head that is 6-7 million per year. He is durable and has been a pro bowler, someone will take a chance on that.
  19. And acquired an extra 4th in the process... Yeah pretty much the comp pick that Washington will get now but if you believe a 4th rounder this year is equal to a 3rd in next years draft we probably will come out ahead there. Plus we don't have to worry as much about losing the comp pick when we sign FA's ourselves, I am hopeful Gutes isn't as stingy about keeping those comp picks as TT was.
  20. Randall has 16 picks in 59 career games, that's pretty good production and he still has a nice ceiling, especially now that he is back at safety. Too bad things went sour there, he wasn't a bad draft pick talent wise. I wasn't as upset about the HHCD trade but it did make us worse at an already thin position, probably wouldn't have made much difference in the end though. At least they saved a few bucks I guess.
  21. You're probably right OTB that there will not be a franchise QB dropping to 30, just a quick glance at some mocks maybe Jones or Lock drop for some reason? They aren't slam dunks or they would be projected higher, but of course the combine and other workouts could change that. I don't want Murray either, hopefully someone is stupid and takes him in the top 11.
  22. That was a Bostick move for sure. Wow. I guess the Pats had 3 timeouts so could have got the ball back with 40 seconds or so and no time outs but still, that was like a 98% win probability at that point. Guessing KC fans are going to have tough nights sleep like us in 2014.
  23. The NFL overtime coin toss continues to be the weirdest thing in all of sports. I am sure they will fix it someday, at this point I think the college style shootout is the best solution. Everyone is gassed, end it quick and give both teams a fair shot.
  24. On the call in regulation I thought the ball was there, weird play since it didn't hit either player but Payton just said the refs said the ball had arrived. Could have called the hit to the head but hate to see a conference championship decided on that. On the OT pick I thought the ball was tipped but on a later replay I wasn't so sure, I just think the refs saw a jump ball and ignored the contact. Edit: Well just saw the replay again, pretty tough to argue it wasn't PI. I guess I saw the angle from behind the play where it looked like the ball was near the players on contact but the receiver still has to be given a shot at it.
