  1. Having a friend over to watch and drink, one of the best sports days of the year. I am assuming there is a free MLB free preview on direct Tv, right? Only frozen brats at Publix here in S Florida but they had fresh kielbasa so grilling those with bacon fried potatoes, baked beans, and kraut. Just cracked my first beer. Go Crew!!!! 162-0!!!
  2. The Brewers 4th OF should play a lot and I don't see Gamel as much of a block to Ray. Plus we would still be selling low on Ray in my opinion. I wouldn't make that sort of trade now, lets see what we have in the bullpen and give Ray a shot to boost his value. If he continues to struggle to hit he still has power and speed and could always be a valuable 4th guy in the majors.
  3. They have the Packers taking Hockenson even though Sweat and Ed Oliver are still on the board. I can see some dropping of Montez due to the heart issues, but I can't see how you could pass on Ed Oliver to take Hockenson. Is Hockenson clearly an elite talent? They also have Bosa now going to the Jets at #3 as the Niners now have the Ford addition and new-found love for QWilliams. Now do you do a deal with the Jets to possible take Bosa (losing the #12/#30 plus)? I think if Bosa dropped to 3 you make a call to the Jets but that's only because of my best player in the draft impression of Bosa. I sure hope they don't pass on a defensive stud to draft Hockenson but we are sill a few weeks away, still too much guessing based on needs and free agency signings.
  4. Take care of business at home vs Rockets and Clippers this week and everyone will call off the dogs. Really Toronto may be there already, I think everyone at the top of the east will want to rest up for the playoffs.
  5. I would be happy if just 2 of them turned out to be Yo like #2's
  6. In all my despair about Knebel and excitement about the young rotation I forgot all about Nelson for a couple of hours. That may indeed be a good option this season but I'll bet he is itching to get back in the rotation. Which is clearly starting out in the minors to get back in the rotation. The thought I have on it is that the Club instead is giving him the opportunity to play at the ML level immediately. What is that itch? to Start? or play in the Majors? To start, he has been a starter his whole career and has talked recently about wanting to be the opening day starter. He is 2 years from free agency, if ready I am sure his preference would be to get back in the rotation and we can make room for him. But I am sure he would go to the bullpen if asked and especially if as you say it is a way to keep him in the majors earlier.
  7. In all my despair about Knebel and excitement about the young rotation I forgot all about Nelson for a couple of hours. That may indeed be a good option this season but I'll bet he is itching to get back in the rotation.
  8. I am actually encouraged that they stuck with their plan despite the injuries. We have been starved for quality starters out of our system for way too long.
  9. Closer by committee was fine when we had Hader/JJ/Knebel but would you want to use Hader for 2 then turn it over to Williams/Barnes? I don't know maybe Anderson finds some more mph with shorter stints or Albers comes out with great stuff. I guess there are options but it seems like as things are now Hader needs to be the closer short term, it's not that horrible but I guess we don't know how he does pitching 3 of 4 days.
  10. I would think if no Kimbrel that Hader has to close, just no one else we can trust right now.
  11. Oof. Terrible news on Knebel but we should have guessed. Excited about the young rotation though, we sacrificed Hader to the bullpen need to give these other guys their shot as starters.
  12. Well, the Knebel news certainly took the wind out of my sails with the Kimbrel talk. Have to think the 2 stories are connected. I guess the thought may be they can give a deal to Kimbrel, hope everyone gets healthy and have an elite bullpen, then trade someone in the offseason(or even midseason if things go sour) to help with the salaries. Knebel will get pretty expensive if he has another good season. I am always for a one year deal no matter how much, it's not my money and its the longer term stuff that hurts the Brewers.
  13. Ouch. I remember there were trade rumors for him last year but the Tigers wanted ace like return when he was really a #2 type. They were loaded with prospects already so took the attitude that if someone doesn't blow us away with an offer we will keep him.
  14. All reasonable points you make. What about Anderson to pen, allowing for Potentially our most talented and unhittable starter- Peralta - to throw all his pitches for the big club? I guess if they put Anderson or Davies in AAA that would be fine, I don't think they should be in the bullpen though. Davies is a slow starter but I just think they will go with the vets to start. But who knows, they did leave Anderson and Davies off the playoff roster while the young guys made it.
  15. As much as I want the big 3 young starters in the rotation to start the year it just makes too much sense to go with Anderson over Peralta and let them manage Peralta's innings at AAA for a few weeks. He is younger and less polished than Burnes and Woodruff and it gives Anderson a chance to hopefully build up some trade value if we don't need him by mid season. If Nelson is ready in a few weeks we will have 7 starters, we will need them all eventually and Peralta will get his chance soon enough.
  16. Yep, if that's the case with Jimmy then I think it really comes down to Peralta or Woodruff for final spot since all indications have been that Burnes will have a spot. I would think Chacin is a lock for opening day.
  17. Good to hear, especially the throwing harder part.
  18. FWIW these are the odds I could find to win next title: Bucks 8:1 Brewers 18:1 Packers 20:1 Marquette BB 40:1 Badger FB 50:1 Badger BB 80:1 I remember having a bar conversation in La Crosse shortly after the Brewers lost to the Cards in the NLCS where it was agreed that the Packers are the only team in Wisconsin that has a realistic shot. Everyone else is at a disadvantage. Since then Bucky BB came oh so close and now the Brewers/Bucks are contending but I think the Packers are still the best bet, they have Rodgers and a hard salary cap and you only have to get hot and win 3-4 in a row at the end. Edit: Just reread and saw the OP was about pro teams but I will leave all the odds up anyway
  19. I have to admit it's tough going back to the more typical Badger teams after the final four runs. It's like for 2 wonderful years we knew what it was like to be Kentucky or Duke fans. In the 6 game win streak Davison got hot now he is cold and we are struggling, nice to see Pritzl stepping up though, I think he will be starting next season.
  20. Murray does seem to be moving up the mocks and with 3 QB's and maybe even 4 going before #12 you have to think a pretty solid defensive player will fall to the Packers. I would be fine with Oliver as he seems to be tier above the edge rushers likely to be available at #12. Was also just reading the Packers could take Hockenson at #12 and then take a pass rusher at #30. They could even move up a bit from #30 and get a guy like Polite. Nice to have that extra pick, gives us a lot of options in an offseason when we really need them.
  21. Well now the Harper signed with the Phillies I would think Keuchel signs quickly. Maybe that helps the Brewers chances but Phillies were rumored to still want him even if they get Harper, not sure I am thrilled at the prospect of getting Keuchel but the team does seem to like having a LH in the rotation and he is a guy who can stabilize things while the young guys are brought along.
  22. I would love to get Allen but it does seem like 5 is as high as they can reasonably trade up without giving up too much and every mock I see has him top 3. That can change though and the Packer should definitely be scouting those top guys heavily, if you think a guy is a HOF caliber player you go get him.
  23. There is no way the Packers would give up multiple 1st AND a big contract to a 31 year old player. They can spend that money on a UFA and keep the picks. Like I said above I think I would like getting Brown for the #30 pick but I would also be happy if they rolled the dice on a pass rusher like Ansah, drafted another pass rusher at #12 and then used #30 on best available offensive player, maybe even a WR.
  24. I guess I was reading the Steelers cap hit of $22 million. For $12 million and the #30 pick I think the Packers should be all over that, he is very productive player.
  25. His salary concerns me as it would hamstring them in free agency but they probably need to get their pass rusher at #12 anyway. I think I would learn to like it if they pulled the trigger on Brown, too many years of TT really makes me pine for an all in season. Cross your fingers that Bulaga can stay healthy and sign a decent guard in FA and we can have a 2011 offense again.
