  1. Isn't Denkinger legally blind now too? That's some sad irony there.
  2. That's the same reason why my Brewers jersey doesn't have a name or number. That and I got it before the 2004 season.
  3. Before this season I though baseball had probably the 2nd best officiating of the four major league sports. I'd have to say that MLB is now competing with the NBA for the worst. Umpires have seemingly gotten cockier and cockier the past couple of years. They make terrible calls like this and then some of them will have the stones to start chirping at the team that's clearly been worked over. How many times in the past two years has Jim Powell had to say, "The fans didn't come to the park today to see (insert cocky ump) umpire this game." I can think of 3 instances alone since the last week of last September. Ever since that horrible series in Atlanta last year, I've made it a point to watch the umps and see how they conduct themselves in certain situations. For some reason, they just keep getting worse and worse. That Nats/Braves play is completely laughable even at full speed. I wouldn't mind them going on strike again so MLB can call up some hard working minor league umps who could do just as horribly but without the attitude.
  4. That was one fun game. I totally called the 2nd Prince blast, ask anyone around me. Everyone in our section was behind Derrick 100%. No sense booing a guy that's trying. I need sleep, fun game. Nice job Boosh!
  5. This will be my first game in attendance this year. Cannot wait, although I hoped for a better pitching matchup. Oh well, pitch well Boosh. I should be drunk enough not to really care by the 3rd inning so all should be well. Welcome back Jenks!
  6. Yeah, I don't think anyone can say with any kind of logic or reason that Team X has better fans than Team Y. There's no way to determine something like that. I know there are plenty of uninformed fans at Miller Park every game saying things that don't make sense. The thing with those kind of people at Wrigley is, they're mostly in one area and that area has gotten a reputation because of it. Also, I've been to STL a couple of times and they have plenty of fans that don't know what they're talking about. They aren't all what Bob Costas says they are.
  7. Well, the only difference is you used an example of one singular person whereas Marty and me have probably met hundreds of Cub fans who were so wasted and obnoxious that they took something away from our enjoyment of a baseball game, which is something I don't like very much. Now, if the Cards fans that come up here did what the Cub fans have done in the past few years, I'd be bashing them left and right too. The thing is, they don't get hammered and they don't start calling me or my team childish names. I don't think the Cards have the best fans in baseball. I don't think any team has the market cornered on great fans, that's just impossible.
  8. See: Papelbon, Jonathan Papelbon doesn't get the chance to close out every game. The Red Sox seem to be fine with that, as does Papelbon. I don't see why the Brewers wouldn't/shouldn't do something similar with the options we have in the pen and with Gagne's injury history. As for Yost "asking" Gagne if he can go, big deal. Yost asks all his pitchers if they feel good that day. It's still irresponsible, IMO, to throw him out there 4 days in a row. Add in the fact we have a 14 man pitching staff(which is unheard of) and to me it makes no sense to use Gagne yesterday.
  9. What difference does it make that Gagne makes $10 million for one year? How would it be any different if he only made $5 million? I guess I just don't see how him making eight figures makes the situation any different. Gagne shouldn't have been used 4 days in a row. I don't care what Gagne says he feels like, it's the managers job to see through that crap. I mean, all off season we heard about the new bullpen and how many guys could finish games if need be. Well, why not try it out when Gagne has pitched 3 days in a row in April? I'm not a Yost basher, I think he gets a lot of undue crap on this board, but not for his actions yesterday. He, not Gagne, gets the blame from me.
  10. I don't see how this applies to the entire fan base, or even a small portion of it. One guy made a somewhat technically incorrect statement. That's quite a reach. Also, 18 baseballs is still 17 too many. And I don't remember the Cubs throwing out half the people in the bleachers for throwing trash on numerous occasions.
  11. I've never been a Yost hater, but today he lost a TON of points in my book. I just..... I don't even know what to say. 4 days in a row?! With a 14 man pitching staff?! Are you serious? I can't believe he did that. I can... but I can't.
  12. 2B Rickie Weeks CF Gabe Gross LF Ryan Braun 1B Prince Fielder 3B Bill Hall RF Corey Hart SS J.J. Hardy RHP Carlos Villanueva C Jason Kendall Pretty much what I expected. No real surprises.
  13. I hear ya, there are plenty of games where by the 4th or 5th you just know they aren't going to get it going that night. But that happens to every team, I think. Maybe it's a certain approach they take vs certain guys or maybe it's just bad luck. I have no idea.
  14. We were down 4 runs to the Mets on Sunday and won that one.
  15. And there's plenty of time for stupid decisions as it's April 16th. Yes, every game is important, but it's foolish for us to get so upset 13 games into a 162 game season. Especially when the Brewers have won EIGHT of them. And yeah, the 150 win comment was over-dramatic, just like worrying about our offense 13 games in is a tad over-dramatic.
  16. Too bad. You've been nothing short of horrible of late. If he's in the lineup tonight and swings out of his rear end all game again, I'd sit him on Thursday too. What's he going to do, leave the team? Become the next Sheffield?
  17. Apparently some fans were told we'd win 150 games this year. I'm just glad it's 70 degrees outside and there's a baseball game on tonight. The offense will come around, Mike Cameron will help a lot, Yo is coming back soon. I said it in the IGT yesterday and I'll say it again, I just can't get upset about most things in April. It's just way too early. I couldn't imagine the amount of "worried?" threads there would be if this were Tigerfan.net.
  18. I don't know, maybe it was a rule back when the leagues had their own umps(pre-2000). However, if you look it up, there are plenty of umps who work near/in their hometown multiple times in a season(I'm talking series not individual games). Maybe it is unavoidable that they have to work those games but I don't think MLB has a very strong policy in place to keep umps out of their hometowns. I'm not saying they don't have something in place to keep these occurrences to a minimum but it doesn't seem like a hard rule to get around.
  19. Bruce Froemming did a number of Brewer games every year. You can go to retrosheet.org and look up his game log. There are plenty of Brewer games to be found.
  20. I think until June I'm going to refrain from getting into these lineup debates. I mean, Ned can't do anything right on this board. Too many differing opinions here and when Ned doesn't go with someone's opinion he should be fired. Gross or Kapler, I don't care. It's just something so insignificant in terms of the whole season that I can't will myself to care.
  21. They finally shut mine off a few days ago. I was happy with the extra 4 or 5 days of baseball. It has to be free if you didn't order it. There's no way they can charge you for watching something you didn't ask for in the first place. Well, we do live in America so there is a chance....
  22. Final Score is only a half hour, so it's comparable to ESPNews more than it is Sportscenter. That said, none of the above are perfect but I probably catch Final Score more often just because it's quicker. I can get my sports "news" on the internet. I only watch it for highlights. And yes, ESPN is a business that caters to the east coast. They are very successful. To me that doesn't mean I should support it. If anything I'd try to make them less successful. I have no ties to the ESPN empire, what do I care if they succeed or fail? It's not like they try very hard to be good at what they do, they have a virtual monopoly on 24 hours sports programming.
  23. Jeff Weaver was always a favorite of mine for some reason. I just liked his delivery with arms and legs going every direction. That said, this signing isn't anything to get overly excited about, even for me. I remember some games last year when he was with Seattle in which Jeff had trouble getting out of the 1st inning. Good option to have in Nashville.
  24. I loved it when Ann would do the post game and they'd show highlights and she would say "Number 5 Cedeno hits into a double play" instead of "Ronny Cedeno hits into a double play". Actually with the way she'd talk it would be "Number 5..... Cedeno..... hits into aaaaa...... double play". The sideline reporter has to know what they're talking about. Trenni seems to have a good understanding of the game and asks decent questions. I don't need a sideline reporter when I watch a game. As long as they stay out of the way and add a couple of nice nuggets of information from time to time, they're doing their job. If they're terrible and/or annoying it doesn't matter how good looking they are, they're going to get under my skin.
  25. That was the day Hitting for the Cycle officially jumped the shark.
