  1. He was a 1st round pick in 2015, so it's natural to be ranked highly in a system at that point based on draft profile alone. Not many teams are trading players at that stage however. Are you faulting the Brewers for not cashing in on his ranking in 2015? As to your second point, every batter needs to hit at some point. Grisham is 1.7 years younger than the average for AA so he's still at the stage where a strong year could vault him back into the top 10. He's not at that make or break point just yet. If it keeps this up, all that value is still there to be realized. If he reaches a point where he's a year or two older than average for a level and still middling then no amount of sustained success other than an awakening as a batter in the majors is restoring that value.
  2. No, not worried, because if he does go down, it likely won't be for long. He's made a very nice first impression in his first taste of the Show. Disagree. It would be completely inappropriate and it could cost them games. If Shaw comes up in Hiura's place and still isn't hitting, then the team is making a playoff contender worse. Given last season's down to the wire, tie-breaker with the Cubs, the team shouldn't be downgrading unnecessarily for any stretch.
  3. It sure appears as though you're still presuming a world where the Brewers picked who turned out to be their 12 best performers out of Spring Training and "hey look how good the team ERA would be if they had". What team in the majors wouldn't benefit greatly from that hindsight? The stats you're posting also meet the very definition of cherry picking so your condescension toward the people using the term is offensive.
  4. Which teams' cumulative ERA wouldn't look good if you lopped off their 4 worst performers? Not many.
  5. Weren't you the one who went on a full blown tirade when the Brewers didn't sign Alex Cobb prior to last season?
  6. Yeah no kidding. Alonso, Guerrero, Hiura, and even that Lowe kid in Tampa Bay (I'm sure I'm forgetting others). Add rookie hitters in recent years like Acuna, Soto, Andujar, Judge, Bellinger, Seager, Turner, Correa, Lindor, Bryant etc. There's been plenty or recent evidence that a rookie can come in and rake from day 1.
  7. Right on schedule. With yesterday's day at the plate (June 1) Hiura is now second only to Yelich in BA, SLG, and OPS. And he's just getting started. Wait until he cuts down on his strikeouts. Now if we could just get the piggy backing thing worked out... Are you betting against what I described happening? It's closer to reality every passing day.
  8. If only it were that simple. Hopefully Wilkerson is on the upswing in terms of talent growth but he hasn't shown anything in the majors to suggest he'd be more effective than Peralta. He could be the AAAA player he's shown himself to be so far. I think some people underestimate how difficult it is being shuttled back and forth between the majors and AAA, often with no advance notice because they need a fresh arm, and how stressful it is to know/think that you only have one or two opportunities to impress in order to stay. I know on one of his callups his luggage got lost/delayed, and he had to borrow somebody else's shoes - for something as precise as pitching, to suddenly be in a different pair of shoes trying to pitch off of a mound can't be easy. He's never had the luxury of being told he has a spot on the team and has more than one or two appearances to prove himself. Sometimes the worst thing that can happen to someone is to feel like you only have one chance and thus have to be perfect. I hope he comes up and carries over his AAA performance if given the chance. I'm just not counting on it like some seem to be. Twice now I've seen people assume he's more valuable in the Brewers pen then Peralta. That seems very odd to me. We have MLB track records for both. One has had significant stretches of dominance at 22 and the other has pitched 26 mediocre to poor MLB innings over the past 3 seasons and is 30. That's before mentioning that Peralta has a 2.20 ERA with 18Ks / 3BBs over the last 30 days. People see the sparkling AAA numbers and assume it translates into at least average in MLB. Baseball is littered with players who conquered Triple A but never made any impact at all in the majors. I hope Wilkerson breaks that trend but barring an injury I don't see who I'd want gone to gamble that he isn't what he's shown himself to be so far. If Burnes continues to get lit up, I'm assuming Nelson gets his spot on the staff.

  10. "Unfortunate state of fandom"? It's possible that people were doing other things instead of refreshing an IGT during a Sunday afternoon game on Memorial Day weekend. Could be. Or it could be just like most every game thread. The losses produce IGTs significantly longer than the wins. Unfortunate state of fandom.
  11. I think it was pretty clearly age-related. The other two have time to get to Woodruff's level and there's plenty of reason to have hope that they will. Woodruff also had the worst numbers of the 3 the deeper into the game they went so there's another reason. His success should give everyone hope for Burnes and Peralta. Woodruff was anything but the most proven commodity. He was the oldest though.
  12. If Woody isn't near perfect like that last time out, then I'm guessing the IGT exceeds 3 pages. That was a all-timer and it didn't seem to excite anyone at all. Unfortunate state of fandom.
  13. If only it were that simple. Hopefully Wilkerson is on the upswing in terms of talent growth but he hasn't shown anything in the majors to suggest he'd be more effective than Peralta. He could be the AAAA player he's shown himself to be so far.
  14. I get why they would do it if that's what they're doing. That wouldn't stop it from being a bummer, though. Hiura hasn't been perfect, but he has been a shot in the arm for the offense, and one more guy that opposing pitchers have to think about. He's made some rookie mistakes, but that is to be expected. If this does come to fruition, and the next two games are his final two in the majors for awhile, it's been a positive first impression. That's based on the notion of "who else goes?". Which I completely understand since some obvious candidates can't be sent down. But it ignores the more important question which is, why the heck does Shaw need to be brought back up? Winning major league baseball games has no room for doing veterans "courtesies" or "favors". Shaw has done nothing to earn a call-up, much less a swap for Hiura.
  15. Hiura now sporting a .296 BA, .345 OBP, .537 SLG, .882 OPS line at the plate. Small sample but puts him right in the conversation with Grandal and Moustakas for the 2nd best line on the team behind Yelich. Yeah, lets send him down to bring back Shaw and tell our fans that winning is the priority.
  16. the rulebook doesn't actually say it has to be presented to the umpires. "In establishing the validity of the catch, the fielder shall hold the ball long enough to prove that he has complete control of the ball and that his release of the ball is voluntary and intentional. If the fielder has made the catch and drops the ball while in the act of making a throw following the catch, the ball shall be adjudged to have been caught." Thanks for finding that. The Twins announcers had it wrong then.
  17. Twins announcers were saying that a ball caught in the OF has to be presented as caught to the umpires before being a completed catch. Being in the glove is not enough. Given the way the ball fell out before it could be shown, that would mean the mistake was made by the umps not Braun. I have no idea if the Twins announcers have that right or not, but it looks silly for a poster here to jump down Braun's back when it looked a lot like a dropped ball both in real time and to the opposing side's announcers.
  18. Settle down, I was trying to be nice. You're post in response to CHL was poorly written. And Rondo is a terrible fit with this team. If you don't understand why, then by all means continue to put your lack of understanding of the Bucks offense and what they need around Giannis on full display for all.
  19. I'm struggling to find where someone is advocating for signing Rajon Rando, but whomever that is, they clearly don't understand what makes Bud's offense around Giannis tick. This team collapsed when they couldn't get shots to fall. And it would be a good idea to add Rondo? Ummm, no.
  20. Yeah when they traded a pick, the expectation has to be that he's more than a LOOGY. I'll admit that my own assumption was they saw something they could change or add to his repertoire to make him a useful multi-inning reliever who could get LH and RH bats out. With the way they use their starters, a LOOGY on this staff is about as useful as a knitted condom.
  21. Not use juiced balls?
  22. I am. This team doesn't have the fortitude to win in their house. Not right now anyway. Well, bye
  23. Shaping up nicely. Gonna add another long arm soon too. Perfect.
  24. There have been two posts about Hiura since the end of the game. Also, there is nothing wrong with being guarded. Nothing wrong with getting excited either. We are fans after all.
