I see zero chance Stearns would take on Bellinger and his $17M contract unless Yelich was part of the deal. Bellinger would add over $7M to the payroll this year alone and he's in arby. It wouldn't make any sense to add that kind of money for such an anemic bat.

Hiura sat the bench because he can't be relied on to make contact. He strukout 43% of the time against RH pitchers. He is terrible with the glove in the infield. His best position appears to be LF where they have Yelich. Cutch is the DH.

Hiura was sent down to get more ABs and because there is nobody else CC could send down. Davis is needed until Taylor gets back to play CF. Brosseau, one could argue he has been the Brewers' best hitter and is much more versatile. Severino has no options left and they need the full staff of pitchers the way things have been going.

If you are a fan of surplus value of players, this would be one of the bigger steals in history. The three Brewers are roughly 1/3 of the sv of the Orioles players. Even if you are not a believer in sv, this wouldn't be of any interest to the O's. They probably could do better for Mullins alone.

I don't understand the fascination with Laureano. He's hitting .246/.341/6 HRs /18 RBIs/ a negative dWAR. I don't believe he's an upgrade over Tyrone Taylor. He's not going to make a difference. I think you're right about Michael Taylor, but he'll be 32 next year with a cost of $4.5M and a FA in 2024. He would be a considerable upgrade in CF if they could get him dirt cheap. Reynolds, I think, is going to be way out of reach for the Crew. His asking price would start with Chourio and go up from there.

I think the Brewers keep Caratini for about $4.5-5M range. I believe Hader/Houser all will be on the block for sure. Woodruff is another possability, but I don't think a certainty. That should bring in some MLB ready talent on the mound or at 3B. Their contracts along with losing Cain/McCutchon/Wong should be enough to sustain a decent team. Catchers: Caratini - Severino 1B: Tellez (Singleton has been so bad at AAA I think he's released soon) 2B: Urias - Reyes (Wong is almost certainly gone) SS: Adames - Reyes/Turang (It's time to see what he can do) 3B: Brosseau - Free Agent or somebody from Hader/Houser trade OF: Yelich - Taylor - Renfroe - Davis/trade acquisition- (it doesn't look like the Brewers think much of Dahl) DH: TBD (I think they have seen enough of Hiura's strikeouts) Starters: Burnes-Peralta-Ashby-Lauer- possibly Woodruff - TBD Bullpen: Williams (closer) - I think they bring back Boxburger with Small in the long relief role. Gott/Topa/Cousins/Milner/Suter all possabilities along with FAs.

I can't see putting Yelich at lead off over Wong. KW has a higher BA-OBP-OPS than Yelich. Neither is good, but Wong is slightly better and the offense needs everything it can get. When Adames and Narvaez come back Yelich could be moved to 8th in the order where there is no pressure (I know there is zero chance CC does it). Not perfect but: Wong (2B) - Urias (3B) - Adames (SS) - Tellez (1B) - Renfroe (RF) - Narvaez (C) - Taylor (CF) - Yelich (LF) - McCutchon (DH). If McCutchon keeps hitting like the last two games, he could move up. When Brosseau comes back I'd like to see him get some time at DH and 3B (Urias/Adames to DH or resting). It can't be any worse.

Is this the same Gallo who is hitting .176/.247 and strikingout almost 40% of his PAs? The Brewers have plenty of high whiff guys who are under achieving. They don't need Gallo especially if it means losing a prospect or a pick. Now the deal with the O's I think Stearns would jump on immediately. A definite upgrade over Hiura and some pen help for low level prospects. Bohm's immaturity bothers me. He doesn't have a lot of power for a 3B, but it would allow Urias to go to 2B. I think I'd set my sight a little higher, but not rule him out.

If CC keeps 13 pitchers, and if Urias doesn't go on the DL, somebody between Cain-McCutchon-Hiura-Reyes has to go. I would imagine Reyes stays to spell Adames until Urias gets healthy. Cain would be the obvious choice to DFA. He's been way beyond awful with the bat (.169/.227/.450). He's washed-up. McCutchon has been horrendous too. He isn't much better than Cain (.205/.256/.551). Hiura has been so bad, almost half of his PAs end up in a strike out. He is 6 for his last 37 PAs with 19 Ks.

Very, very surprised that CC wanted to keep Kelley over Strzelecki. Kelley has been horrible. 9 hits in 4 1/3 IPs. 6 ERs - allowed 3 HRs. Other teams are using him for batting practice.

McCutchon is the backup OF right now with Renfroe out. Yesterday Yelich was the DH and Peterson was at 3B. If CC doesn't want Cain to play then McCutchon is the RF. I imagine if Yelich is back in LF today then Hiura will be the DH with McCutchon in RF. I hope once Renfroe gets back, both Cain and McCutchon will be relegated to the bench (if Hiura keeps hitting).

Caratini: C- hitting is a concern.......Hiura C+ the strikeouts (43%) and poor glove bring his grade down considerably......Wong D+ .221/.304 as a leadoff man is disturbing. What's more disturbing is his glove so far this year......Peterson C- .202/.292 bring his grade way down. I don't see that much value defensively...... Taylor B Has had some crucial RBIs and played a good CF..... Rest of the team I agree. Nicely done jay87

Some big questions that need to be answered ver, very soon... How much will MA allow Stearns to spend to help the anemic offense? Martinez has a $19.5M contract. Bogaerts has a $20M contract, if he opts out of his $100M deal. Stearns already has a team record payroll, so will MA open the checkbook even more? Can the Brewers wait until the deadline to aquire somebody to bring the cost down? To defer some of the cost, does DS trade a big arby guy for offensive help? Is it time to DFA Cain and look elsewhere?

It would depend on the cost in prospects. His salary would be about $3.5M so very doable I would guess. Benintendi is a LF (he's terrible in CF) so he would be more of a DH and replacement for Yelich. Do they eat the contract of Cain and DFA him, or DFA/trade (eating most of his contract) McCutchen, or make Taylor part of the trade/send him down?

I guess it would all depend on how the A's value Laureano and if they believe in surplus value. For Laureano the lowest SV I could find was 50.5 and the highest was 82. The highest total I found for Frelick/Mitchell/Small combined was 47 and the lowest 30.5... Laureano has 4 years of controll left and I don't see any way the A's would take Frelick or Mitchell plus two lower prospects for him. If the situation was reversed I would never take the deal if Laureano was a Brewer.

I like your thinking, but I don't think there is any way in the world Stearns would ever take on Donaldson and his $50M contract. Donaldson would push the payroll above $150M and Reynolds would push it to approx. $160M. Plus I don't think the Pirates would want quite a bit more for Reynolds. The SV are way too low.

I don't think Stearns would even consider Vogelbach an option. I don't see Santander being considered either. He's had only one year (2020) with an OBP of over .297. Career against LHP .251/.298...against RHP .247/.299.. Taylor offers more and Santander is already in arby.

1. NFL style revenue sharing. Salary cap and salary floor. They floor being 80% of the cap. Teams that exceed the cap or go under the floor are given a loss for every game played from the time they exceeded (or went under) the cap until they returned to compliance. For draft purposes, each loss during that time would be counted as a win. 2. 20 second pitch clock. A pitcher must deliver the ball withing 20 seconds of receiving it from the catcher or a BALL is called for the batter (Umpires' disgression for unusual circumstances). Stepping off the rubber does not reset the clock. If a pitcher calls "time" it would count as a visit from the catcher. Making a pickoff move DOES reset the clock, but the ball has to be thrown to the base. Along with this goes a strictly enforced batter in the box rule. 3. Automated ball and strike calls. 4. All 4 infielders must have both feet on the dirt or on the infield grass at the time of the pitch. Teams can still shift to a short fielder, but it must be with an outfielder, thereby leaving an OF area uncovered. Very big RISK/REWARD move. 5. Points system for determining the standings. A WIN is worth 2 points. A LOSS is zero. No game will go more than 10 innings. If the game is still tied after 10 innings, each team is awarded 1 point. 6. Realign the leagues geographically. With the DH now in both leagues, it just makes sense. 7. Any safe/out - fair/foul - catch/no catch - out of the baseline - interferance can be reviewed (subject to mgr's challenge rules). Review will last no more than 1 minute from the time the ump puts on the head phones. After that, the play stands as called. The ump in New York reviewing the play will be named. 8. Larger first base bag to help avoid injuries. 9. All minor league players must be given free housing. 10. At the end of the season, each team must designate 5 players from their 40-man roster for a compensation pool. Any team losing a FA who signed for more than an AAV of $12M (dollar amount could go up) would be able to select, as compensation, one of the players from the pool of the team who signed the FA. Any player with a multi-year contract must be "protected" and would not be available for the pool. Any player who entered free agency that year CANNOT be put in the pool. The team losing the FA does not have to select a player from the pool. No further compensation would be offered.

I don't think Stearns would want anything to do with Gregorius and his $15+M contract.

Who would you say Bohm would be good enough to replace, Urias at 3B or Tellez at 1B? He's a RH hitter so I guess he could take Brosseau's or Hiura's place. He is pre-arby so it wouldn't be costly, but the price in prospects would have to be next to nothing if he's only going to be a bench guy.

Being shut out in two of the first four games is very embarrassing. Getting shut out by two of the poorer teams in baseball is extremely worrisome.

Different year, same team. 1 for 14 w/RISP over the two games so far. Runners on 2B&3B and two consecutive whiffs to end the inning. The pitching will improve, but I am very, very concerned about the lack of hitting once again.

The Brewers will only have room to keep all 3 (Hiura, Brosseau, and Reyes) through April while there is a 28-man roster. May 1 (if Urias is back by then) two of Peterson-Brosseau-Hiura-Reyes have to be sent down (I am assuming CC keeps Taylor as the 4th OF and Cain's replacement).

With Urias out, I can't see how Hiura makes the club unless he replaces Tellez at 1B. They signed McCuthen to be the RH DH and play LF when Yelich DHs. So the bench looks like: McCutchen(DH/LF) - Taylor (4th OF) - Peterson or Brosseau (1B-2B-3B) - Severino (C) - Reyes or Turang (SS). Taylor plays CF when Cain sits. W/o Urias, the Brewers have to have someone who can play SS if Adames gets hurt during the game. Peterson/Brosseau don't play SS so that means either Reyes or Turang have to be on the roster until Urias returns. With McCutchen/Yelich the DHs and very few LH starters in the Central, I don't know how CC could get enough ABs for Hiura even when Urias comes back.

I don't think Dahl is even an option. Dahl plays only the outfield. The Brewers already have 5 OFs with the addition of McCutchen and unless they trade an OF or Dahl replaces Taylor, there is no room for him. The Crew needs to keep 2 spare infielders and a backup catcher along with two of the OFs (it sounds like the DH will be a Yelich/McCutchen/Renfroe combination). Peterson plays 1B-2B-3B-OF.
