  1. I think your answer was in your stats. .500 BABIP isn't just unlucky. It's balls hit hard far too many times. He has allowed 20 hits in less than 12 IPs and has a 1.89 WHIP. When the LOOGY became a thing of the past, Milner became a mop-up guy at best.
  2. I don't know about Semien. He would be the 3B, but the cost could be prohibitive. He is having a great year and already making $18M, so I imagine he will be looking at a 3/$60M or more contract. Unless they can peddle JBJ or Cain or Yelich I think his price tag may be too expensive.
  3. I don't see any reason to add a bat for RF-2B-SS-C and take those bats out of the lineup. I think the most obvious need is at 1B, by far. Hiura has whiffed 26 times in his last 64 PAs. He belongs in AAA. CF has been beyond awful, but the Brewers have so much money tied up in JBJ and Cain it makes it hard to add a 3rd CF and have both those guys on the bench. LF would be next because Yelich is only a shadow of his former self. While .233 with only 5 HRs and 24 RBIs doesn't come close to what the Brewers are paying him for, they owe him so much money it's almost impossible to take him out of the lineup.
  4. The reason the Pirates let Gustave go is because he is a one pitch pitcher and hitters just always sit dead red against him. He can't throw his slider for strikes. Maybe the Brewers can get him to work on a change-up as a secondary pitch.
  5. Not really clones. From what it sounds like, Tellez has a low strikeout rate. I think there's a good chance they they both are on the team next year. Vogelbach DH/1b, Tellez DH/1b, Hiura 1b/DH/utility OF/2b Tellez in 151 PAs this year - 21.9% strikeout rate Vogelbach in 198 PAs this year - 21.2% strikeout rate
  6. 2021 Zach Davies: 4.28 ERA - 4.80 FIP - 1.42 WHIP ... 8hits/9 - 4.7 BBs/5.7 Ks 2021 Lauer: 4.11 ERA - 4.90 FIP - 1.31 WHIP ... 8 hits/9 - 3.6 BBs/9.1 Ks What would the Brewers gain?
  7. Is this Stearns' way of saying bye-bye to Vogelbach, Shaw, and Hiura? Tellez is almost an exact clone of Vogey. Both bat left and play 1B only. Both had some success in 2019, hitting with power but low BA. 2020 the same. Both were struggling in 2021, although Tellez much worse than Vogey. Both have negative Rtot and dWAR, with a positive oWAR. When Cain comes back the OF is Cain, JBJ, Yelich, Garcia. Pina is the back-up catcher. Due to Wong's problems I think CC has to keep Pederson(also 5th OF/1B) and another infielder (unless CC adds a 14th pitcher) on the bench. That leaves only one spot for Hiura/Vogelbach/Tellez/Shaw.
  8. Hiura looks like he is slipping back to his early season days again. 4 for his last 22 with 11 whiffs. He again looks like he has no clue. Fastballs right down the middle and he swings under them or is late.
  9. What would be the cost to get Scherzer? Unless the Nats ate some money, the remainder of his contract would cost around $15-16M. The more $$ they eat, the more they would want in return. Gray isn't as good, but would be much cheaper to acquire and pay. He would be #4. I wonder if there is a lefty worth having they could get?
  10. That Jerry Hairston Jr. trade ended up being low-key pretty solid. Closest in-season “veteran presence” position player acquisitions they’ve made during Stearns tenure are Neil Walker and Curtis Granderson. Both of those worked out well, but if they are going to add a veteran hitter to this current roster I think it would need to be someone that maintains positional flexibility because their roster spot would likely replace someone like Daniel Robertson. Asdrubal Cabrera? .241/.343/.400 plays 1B, 2B, 3B and SS. Would be an excellent depth piece and has a ring and over 100 at bats in the post season I'd hold up on Cabrera. Since his IL stay he is hitting .143 (8 for 56) - 3 doubles - no triples - 1 HR - 16 Ks. Escobar I think would be a better choice, but probably more expensive to get. Josh Harrison from the O's would be fine too, but again, more expensive to get.
  11. I watched he T-Rats play against Peoria. Olson did not look good at all. Started out at 96 in the 1st inning and was 91-93 from the second inning on. He allowed 4 hits/3 runs in 4 IPs. Walked 7 and K'd 3. Howell and Mitchell both were very impressive. Really good speed and both are very good with the bat. I imagine they both will move up to AA this year.
  12. The only guy I would absolutely not want is Duffy. He's Anderson or worse and high cost. Cabrera has been awful since he came back from injury. 3 for 36 with 12 Ks. I'd probably pass on him too. Escobar has a very low OBP (.288) but would help. He has some pop with the bat and is a switch hitter who can play 3B. He'd probably be the easiest to get. Morton and Cobb both would be huge additions to the staff down the stretch. Hudson is another guy CC would love to have behind Hader in the pen. Nice to think about what could be.
  13. CC just doesn't have any other option but to recycle the same garbage over and over again, producing the same results over and over again.
  14. Players stopped playing every day long before COVID. In 2019 there were five guys that played all 162, in 2018 there were seven, in 2017 there were five, in 2016 there were three, in 2015 there was only one, in 2014 there were four, etc. Even picking a random season in the middle of the steroid era, 1999, there were only five guys that played all 162. This is one of the reasons I would like to see MLB reduce the number of games played. Go from 162 games to 100 games. Losing 62 games won't kill the leagues profits and if it does just add more playoff teams. I think losing 37% of the games would very significantly reduce the leagues' profits. The players would never go for it either because their salaries would also be reduced accordingly. Adding more playoff teams would help very little because half of the teams are eliminated after their first playoff series. If a team only averages 15,000 per game, they still lose 465,000 tickets, plus consessions, parking, etc... Advertising revenue would also be reduced significantly. I agree that 162 games is too much, but IMO taking it to around 150 would be ideal.
  15. Does Stearns believe the pitching staff is so bad he has to pick up a guy like Weber who has been beyond awful every where he's been? They don't need more filler at AAA so this move is a real head scratcher.
  16. I think the "production away from Coors" thing is a little overblown. DJ Lemahieu certainly did well after leaving Colorado. Arenado has been good. Matt Holliday had some nice years after leaving Colorado. Larry Walker was good for the Cardinals after the Rockies dealt him. McMahon's splits are drastic away from Coors: BA .275/.206 - OPS .867/.641 - HRs 37/17
  17. It's actually quite gross. Garrett Mitchell hitting very well for the T-Rats, but still eta is late 2023. Since they are stuck with Cain and Bradley Jr. next year no matter what, CC has to hope Yelich can do something again besides pop up or strikeout and Garcia gets better. Getting Stearns/Arnold to finally fix 1B and 3B would be nice too.
  18. Dislocated shouders are about a 3-4 month full recovery time. With his poor showing this year, I think the best Shaw can hope for next year is a minor lg. contract. It might also be the end of the line for him.
  19. I don't think almost all Brewer fans would really welcome the trade. However I can't imagine the Twins even giving it a momentary thought. Donaldson would bring much, much more if they put him on the block.
  20. I don't think you can put much stock in his previous years. Pitchers have found his weakest points and are exploiting them. Hiura cannot adjust his swing to compensate. I think one of the most important numbers to look at now is his lack of contact. 35% whiff rate last year and a whopping 40% whiff rate (48 strikeouts in only 122 PAs) this year.
  21. He had Hiura type numbers. 0 for his last 39 ABs. 17 Ks.
  22. Update on Hiura: 1-30 / 16Ks/ 2 BBs Update on Yelich: 8-42 / 18Ks / 9 BBs / 1 HR / 4 RBIs
  23. Richards would be in the same boat as Yardley. Unfortunately for CC there just isn't much left to replace them. Right now the pen is a mess.
  24. I would think that wouldn't even come remotely close to what the O's would want for Mancini. If he went on the market I don't think the Brewers would be in the running unless they over paid by a substancial amount.
