  1. No way in the world I'd trade Burnes for a bunch of maybes and give up on the 2021 and 2022 seasons. Kelley is just starting his career and who knows if he ever makes it. Vaughn hasn't exactly set A ball (.252/.349) on fire. Heuer is a relief pitcher. IMO the Brewers can win the NL Central this year by keeping Burnes and adding a couple of offensive pieces. When you have two stud pitchers at the top of the order and a good pen, the time is now to go for it all.
  2. I definitely agree on Lamb, I would like to add him. And I would be totally fine to put Jedd at 3B, see what he can do during a full season... Stick Jedd at 3B and Jake at 1B. If the Crew is keeping Vogelbach, IMO Lamb is not for them. Both are lefties and Lamb can't face lefties (career .169/.276). I'm not a Gyorko fan either, but he'd be better than starting Urias at 3B. I'd like to see the Crew go after the Rays Brosseau or Wendle. Both are payroll friendly and both play 3B. Both should come relatively cheap too. Barring that, I'm hoping they can trade Hader for a competent 3B and then use Vogelbach and maybe Cabrera at 1B.
  3. Andrew Vaughn turns 23 in April and is ranked as a top 15-30 prospect in baseball (#21 in Baseball America’s Top 100 released earlier this week). He would’ve most likely started 2020 at Double-A had there been an MiLB season. He could be in the majors as soon as this coming season, but should certainly be there no later than 2022 (next season). I just don't share the enthusiasm for Vaughn. .253 at A and .252/.349 at A+... He hasn't seen AA yet much less AAA pitching. If the Brewers were going to get a highly questionable pitcher, I'd want a more polished and MLB ready prospect for Hader.
  4. NO! Kopech hasn't pitched in 2 1/2 years and nobody knows how he'll return. Vaughn is barely out of rookie ball and 3-4 years away, if ever.
  5. These may not all be minimum salaries, but all of these players should be relatively cheap and intrigue me one way or another in order on how much I like them: Mike Foltynewicz Brad Peacock Matt Moore Tyler Anderson Dario Agrazal Erasmo Ramírez Nick Tropeano I like Collin McHugh as a cheap #4-5 type. Maybe swing man.
  6. Agreed, not a chance he will sign with us... Payroll is supposedly dropping again but we're gonna give DJL $20-$25 mil a year... Yea not happening. No doubt it's unreasonable. But so is DJ asking 20plus mil a season at his age and history. Take 2020 away and who pays him that kind of money? 12mil a yr for 2 seasons with the Yankees that produced his best ever stats. How's his stats going to be elsewhere? 17mil a season seems reasonable while still being questionable. 20-25 is just insane when nearly all baseball teams are reducing payrolls. The thought on Stearns swooping in would come on this scenario: Hader is traded saving approx 6.5-7mil. Signs Lemahieu to a 3-51 deal with a 4th yr 20 option. Simply a move where he's saved money and jumps on a player who will improve the team. Only thing is I'm not sure he'd solve 3b defensively. Obviously 2b is his calling. So then you go to 1b with him. Think of Milws future payroll. That scenario trading Hader drops 10mil or more moving to 2022. Garcia not having his option picked up saves 10 more. Cains contract ends though Im not sure which year with opting out. Narvaez is gone after 2022. So theres money that will be shed to afford that deal.[/quote What you're forgetting is someone has to replace all the people you mentioned. You can't assume the replacements will be minor leaguers making minimum MLB wages. And you are assuming Lemahieu is still doing very well at age 40. IMO I'd never even think of Lemahieu.
  7. I don't see how the Brewers get any of the players you mentioned from the Blue Jays in a Hader trade. I think a Hader trade with the Blue Jays looks more like this: 3B Hiraldo 2B Machado RHP Castro RHP Kloffenstein I hope the Brewers are looking at a lot more than maybes and never will be's in any Hader trade. They have a chance to win the weak NL Central this year, and trading Hader for maybes makes them much worse.
  8. I hope you don't really think the Brewers would be in on any Turner talk, especially if it would blow up the payroll by $12-14M. It would take more than Hader/Pina to get D. Smith. Plus the Mets just signed McCann to a big contract and I doubt that would want another catcher in a trade.
  9. Unfortunately baseball has no salary cap and big money teams have a monstrous advantage over smaller market teams. That's a fact of life, you have to accept that as a Brewer fan. You know that the team will not spend like the Dodgers, cubs, Padres, Yankees, Mets, etc.... You hope they can find a gem or two in the scrap heap, occasionally make a big trade or FA signing, and develop the younger players until they become too expensive to keep. Thats the fun of being a Brewer fan. Watch them challange the big spenders and hopefully make the playoffs. Then who knows?
  10. Are you meaning Garrett Richards? Huge injury risk since he's missed most of 2016-2017-2018-2019 with injuries and recovery issues. Maybe a small non-guaranteed contract, but nothing more IMO.
  11. Candelario is pre-arbitration eligible, is coming off a season where his OPS was .872, he's a switch hitter and plays multiple defensive positions. Even considering Candelario's 2020 BABiP is not sustainable, the Tigers are a rebuilding team in a very strong division why would they be motivated to move Candelario now? Further complicating matters, why would the Tigers move Candelario for a collection of junk from the Brewers? Lutz= hasn't played above A ball, and there are questions about his game. Zack Brown= was Rule 5 eligible, and any team could've selected him and didn't. Ethan Small? Who knows what they have there? Definitely a project. With fringe major league velocity, will he be able to maintain his collegiate and low minor league success as he pitches against better and better players. Candelario had a good abbreviated 2020 season, but the two full seasons before that he hit .219/.312 .698 OPS. He's projected to hit .235/.320. He's not worth much more than those you mentioned.
  12. I think you're right that the return price for Contreras would be high. I really would hate to see them lose two of their best prospects for a catcher.
  13. I guess if you are completely giving up on the 2021 and 2022 seasons that would be a good enough package. I'd much rather see Hader go and at least fill the 3B or 1B black hole immediately. Their offense is not anywhere good enough to compete if those two spots are as bad as last year.
  14. Cronenworth wouldn't be a bad piece at all for the Brewers to target as part of a package for Hader. That is assuming, of course, that he can play 3B. He played 3B once last year and played 3B in the minors. Young guy with a huge upside.
  15. I'm very apprehensive about Candelario. In the abbreviated 2020 season he hit well. In 2018 & 2019 together he hit .219/.312 OPS of .698. He is projected to hit .235/.324 OPS of .724.... I guess it depends on which version of him the Brewers think they'd be getting.
  16. I think Darvish and the $59M he is owed over he next 3 years is going to be way, way out of the Brewers' price range.
  17. I believe the Nippon league rates out to be equal to MLB. A 21 year old who goes .302/.350/.516 would be considered extremely good and you would be looking at a top 50 player in OPS in MLB. OBP alone would put him in the top 25 in all of MLB his numbers would be about the same going from the Nippon League to MLB. I wouldn't put him in the minors and if you do you are looking at a 25-50 ranked prospect so a lot more than 500k-1.5mil. You are probably looking at least $3-5mil for him. Japan is about equal to AAA ball. In no way does OPS and OBP in Japanese lgs. equate to MLB. Pitchers are much better and throw much harder in MLB. Thames said the biggest change coming from Japan was how hard guys threw, both fastballs and breaking balls.
  18. What idiot posted this? Time to flip-flop just like the average American politician. I see there is a post on MLBTradeRumors saying the Rockies have engaged the Mets in a possible Arenado deal. Note the Rockies have engaged the Mets. If I remember correctly, it seems like all the talking heads thought this would be a relatively safe deal for the Rockies. Only two years in, and it looks like the Rockies really, really, really want to get out from under this deal. I fear the Yelich deal is going to turn out to be a train-wreck for the Brewers. I predict a big offensive year from Yelich in 2021, but we'll see how quick things go south after that. Considering the poor offensive performance in 2020 (granted, small sample size in a strange year), chances are looking pretty good that Yelich does not stay a premier hitter over the next five years like dumb-dumb posted in the quote above. The Rockies are getting tired of Arenado's refusal to say whether he will opt out after 2021 and they get nothing for him, or continue to play for the huge money. They really can't make any significant moves until he lets them know what his plans are. If they can trade him they cut their losses and can move on.
  19. From what I saw he is estimated to get 2/$30M or 3/$44M. If that's the case, he is far to expensive for the Brewers situation. Plus you have to ask if 2019 was the real Semien or just an anomaly. Before 2019 Semien wasn't anywhere near his 2019 numbers. He was a .245ish/.312 hitter.
  20. WOW, great article that puts a different perspective on finances in MLB. Thanks for finding it and posting the link. It certainly makes sense that leagues don't want their teams to use the franchises as collateral. The money numbers being thrown around is mind boggling.
  21. I believe the Yankees would want quite a bit more than Ray and Ashby for Voit. Probably a catcher like Feliciano or someone along those lines.
  22. Nice catch here! Either Jones or Toro would be worth a prospect to bring in and at least give a try. Maybe go after both since Toro looks like he can play 3B with Jones at 1B. Sign a guy like A. Cabrera who is versatile and could play 1B/3B if either failed miserably. Vogelbach could take some ABs at 1B too. I'd rather see D. Smith or Davis or Rios, but even if we get one of them, Jones and/or Toro wouldn't cost too much in prospects to bring in.
  23. You can't see the whole article, so thanks for the synopsis. I just don't see the Brewers throwing out that kind of money for a one year rental. To many holes to fill for a team looking to cut payroll.
  24. It would depend on how much of a cut Cron was willing to take. He made over $6M last year and is coming off severe knee surgery. I imagine his price would have to be around $2M. This all assumes the Brewers don't aquire a full time 1B in 2021.
  25. Forget the prospect from the Brewers and the Mets keep Oswalt. Oswalt is beyond horrible and would be more of a dfa guy than a help. Davis moves immediately to 1B and Gimenez is the bench along with Pina, Vogelbach, Taylor, Urias (if he doesn't start at SS).
