  1. The Brewers may have let a couple of decent players go before they should have, but Davis was not one of them. Davis needed to rainbow a throw into the SS from shallow LF. He had arguably, the weakest outfield arm in baseball history and it cost the Brewers far too many times. He was then and is now a DH, period. I certainly agree about Aguilar, but Davis was no loss.
  2. You have to feel bad for Council when a team is so bad offensively that a journeyman like McKinney (.230/.278) is his best option at 1B!
  3. I wanted Hand in the winter when he could have been acquired for a simple waiver claim. He's still been very solid. I would have interest in most of those guys, obviously Scherzer. Harrison has been hot all year. We'll see what happens with the Nats though, that division looks pretty open and they are starting to get healthy. Right now I think CC would welcome anybody who could hit. Nobody can blame him for the garbage he has to put on the card every night. Injuries to Narvaez and Yelich really hurt, but Stearns/Arnold did almost nothing over the winter to help with the exception of Wong. Tonight's lineup: Wong/.297 - Cain/.181 - Vogelbach/.191 - Shaw/.227 - Garcia/.245 - Bradley/.184 - Reyes/.188 - Maile/.167 - Peralta/.000.....It's one of the all time worst Brewer regular season lineups ever. Brewer nation has to hope Burnes and Anderson come back soon and the starting pitching can keep the team competitive.
  4. JZ DFA today. Zimmerman is clearly washed-up. He had nothing yesterday. 56 pitches/25 balls 5 hits two walks and 5 ERs.
  5. Berti would be a nice add in place of Robertson. I have no idea what it would take to get him, but he would be a huge upgrade. Alberto, maybe. His OBP sucks, but he doesn't K very much. Just say NO to Duffy. He has sucked for a while and is owed $15.5M.
  6. HELP! Tonight's 3-9 hitters: .205 - .149 - .216 - .176 - .195 - .000 - Houser .167 Still in 1st place, but they can only do so much with smoke and mirrors.
  7. Peterson (.227/.317/.650) is worse than Shaw and worse defensively. Reyes has been terrible period. Neither offers anything over what the Brewers currently have. Strange-Gordon would be an improvement over Robertson with the bat, but would be a liability at SS. IMO it's time to see if Green can be a big league hitter. Hiura needs to figure it out and it doesn't seem like the majors is the place for him to do it.
  8. The Rays have Kevin Padlo who hit .290/.400/.995 in AAA waiting for an opening. They also have Brujan, Walls, and of course, baseball's #1 prospect Wander Franco waiting for a spot. Brosseau is their 3rd option at 3B, 2B, 1B and Wendle is the second or 3rd option at SS, 2B, 3B.
  9. The Rays are still trying to sell off a couple of infielders. Both Wendle and Brosseau are available and IMO could be had for relatively cheap. Both would be upgrades over Robertson or Peterson.
  10. I hope Nottingham isn't an option at 1B. The guy is a .203/.306 hitter with a whiff rate of 36%. I would much rather have Hiura flailing away up there. I think you are not alone on wondering about Hiura's eye sight or depth perception.
  11. He is also 2nd in hard% on the team at 47.8%. When he is hitting the ball they have been hit rather hard. I am fine with him not walking if he is squaring up on the ball when he is making contact. It's really early, but I would like to see a lot more contact. The hardhit% is nice, but if he is only making contact 60% of the time it leads to a .147/.194 line. However, now that Cain is hurt again, it sure is nice to have JBJ around.
  12. It seems this year is going to be just like the previous years, it all depends on putting the ball in play. Obviously they won't continue to whiff as badly as the first three games (45% of the outs were by K) but cutting down the whiffs and getting more guys on base has to be a priority. Somebody is going to get hot and hopefully it carries over to the rest of the lineup.
  13. If, as reported, CC said Vogelbach is on the team, IMO McKinney is out. I don't know what his future holds because I gotta believe Taylor is the 1st OF recalled if he doesn't make the 26-man roster.
  14. I saw the same thing and I had to re-read it to make sure the numbers were actually what I read. Paying a 32 year old catcher over $20M per seems like an extreme overpay, especially for a team not expected to compete for a while.
  15. I'm trying to see where that much higher ceiling is for Zimmermann. IMO Feyerisen has a much higher ceiling than a washed-up 35 year old who has absolutely stunk the last 5 years. Give the younger guys a shot and let Zimmermann retire or just DFA him.
  16. There have been many rumors about what the Brewers are asking for Hader, especially out of San Diego. First it was they ONLY want MLB ready players, not maybes. Then it was they want an MLB ready guy and a top prospect. Now it's they want multiple top prospects. My highly uneducated guess is that they are looking for immediate help plus a top prospect and San Diego isn't a good fit. We'll never know unless a deal gets done and that's looking less and less likely every day.
  17. I just don't see CC keeping 5 OFs, especially if Reyes makes the 26-man roster. I believe Robertson is going to make it and Pina/Garcia are locks. A lot depends if CC is going to open with 9 in the pen and 4 bench players too. Urias is also a big question mark too.
  18. And the Rays lost to the same team that eliminated the Brewers in 2020. Very similar.
  19. But it’s apples and oranges. The Rays have a talent laden system where they can trade players as they get expensive because they already have players in house to step in. Milwaukee by contrast doesn’t have MLB ready talent to step in. The cupboards are bare when it comes to elite talent and/or mlb ready talent The Rays and the Brewers have been very similar for the last 10 years. From 2011-2020 the Rays have a winning % of 52% and made the playoffs 4 times. Since 2011 the Brewers winning % is 51% and they also have made the playoffs 4 times. How they go about things differs, but the results are about the same.
  20. Pitchers have been doctoring baseballs as long as there have been pitchers - it isn’t a new or modern day thing. Regarding putting some rules in for the shift, I don’t find placing some rules on it as the game evolves being that big of a deal. If putting a rule in place so an infielder isn’t playing at the depth of a rover in slow-pitch softball - that is fine by me. To me, that rule would be similar to formation/shift rules in football. I think putting a limit on pickoff attempts is by far the dumbest proposal. I like the proposed infielder on the dirt rule. Teams could still do a short RF if they took their LF and put him in that position. However then if a LH batter hit it to left field, it would be at least a double and quite possibly more. It would easily drive in any runners on base. Teams could still use the "shift", but the risk/reward just go a lot more risky.
  21. Where did you have Lauer going? I can't imagine any way CC just DFA's Lindblom. I don't see any way Ashby is in the big leagues either, especially in the pen. I think they want him to go down and be a starter at AA. My take is: Shaw replaces Reyes (I think Reyes has a chance if CC keeps only 8 guys in the pen and 5 on the bench) and Lauer/Lindblom join the bullpen in place of Ashby/Perdomo if Peralta starts.
  22. That's how I see it. It's like in the NFL when the west coast offense took over then the defense had to adjust and voila you've got Tampa 2. Maybe spray hitters will be the next undervalued thing? MLB hitters have been extremely successful at changing their approach at the plate. They are doing exactly what they should given the way the game is currently played. It is remarkable that runs scored per game has remained nearly constant despite the incredible improvement in pitching velocity and movement, bullpen use, specialists, etc. The only reason that has happened is because hitters HAVE adapted. When the defense shifts, they WANT you to bunt or hit for contact the other way. They are GIVING YOU a single. But they know you won't try to hit a single because analytics says that trying for a double or HR is more valuable. Hence why the rules need significant adjustment. What you are not stating is how much the NFL changed the rules to favor the offense. They wanted more offense in the game. Kind of like MLB is now trying to do.
  23. Yelich at 3 over 2 Number of ABs over a season almost meaningless Having two OBP guys ahead of him gives him more of a chance of an RBI and pitcher more prone to making a mistake pitch to him If there are 2 outs and they pitch around him, then a runner is on with a good RBI guy (#4 hitter) at the plate With 2 outs and he steals a base, then RISP with #4hitter up Brewers #3 or #4 guy is probably going to be Hiura depending where Yelich hits No matter what, it's a great option for CC to have.
  24. Rays arent stupid, they arent trading Brosseau... He will be one of their core guys until he gets expensive. From what I read (not a great deal) from the Rays' sites, Brosseau is going to be kind of a utility guy. They have Diaz at 3rd with Choi at 1B and they also went and got Tsutsugo from Japan. Plus they still have Wendle (a guy I forgot about, but would be worth trading for. Career .277/.332/.734 - doesn't strikeout much - LH bat - good glove at 3B and can play 2B or SS. Not a lot of power 15-20 bombs). He could be had fairly cheaply too.
  25. I'd like to see Arnold/Stearns look at Brosseau from the Rays. Hit .304/.394/.960 in AAA and so far in the big leagues .284/.343/.843 in a small sample (218 ABs). Good power and decent with the glove. I think he could be had very cheaply due to the Rays plethora of infielders.
