  1. If today’s game was played 100 times, imo, we’d win at least 91 of them. But this is baseball, blah blah blah. I’m expecting Woodruff to continue to blow away hitters, and the pen to continue their dominance. Hoping for a blowout, would love to see Burnes pitch again.
  2. I agree with you that we need to upgrade at SS. And I also agree that Iglesias should be our target. But I think it will cost closer to 8-10 mil. I would absolutely pay that, and tell him your our SS. Period. Reds are my home market team, and I watch a lot of their games. Iglesias is a fantastic defensive SS, a really good hitter, a great clutch hitter(best 2 strike hitter statistically in all of baseball), runs hard to 1B on every play, and is a leader. I’d call him one of the most underrated players in all of baseball. Overpay if necessary to steal him away from the reds, that signing alone would not just strengthen us, but just as important would hurt what could be our toughest competition for the central next year.
  3. This Pitching Staff has gone from bottom 5 in the NL to the top, Amazingly in a span of a few weeks. I’m not talking statistically, although depending on the date, it is. It’s the depth of good pitching, 13-14 strong. All 5 starters pitching well, along with 8-9 pen arms. No NL team has anything approaching that kind of depth. I would argue the pen is pitching as well as a bullpen could pitch. I would also argue it’s the best in all of baseball, and better than what we had last year at any point in time. It’s better for 3 reasons: Matchup’s > 4 lefties pitching virtually lights out. This is the true separator from what we had last year. 3 non-Loogy’s that strong is really astounding to have on one staff, and we have it. Depth > a minimum of 8 deep, that can be used nightly, we never had last year. It’s actually tough to choose who to bring in, there’s so many good options. Rest > this is big. Because of that depth, CC doesn’t have to Pitch the best pitchers too much. Plenty of rest makes for peak performance, which is what we’re getting almost every night. Guerra is brought in last night in a blow-out just to get some work! Last year we rode a overwhelmingly dominant bullpen to within a game of the World Series. This year our pen is even better. And so are our initial out getters. If we get to the playoffs, we are gonna be huge underdogs vs any team we play, but that’s just the perception from the National media, we know better.
  4. Pretty funny to go back and read the first part of this thread, and the IGTs at the time when he was brought up every time the pen faltered, and take a look at who was really pushing for a Kimbrel signing, and how they ripped on Brewers management when it didn't happen. Lets just say they were REALLY barking up the wrong tree. I was so wrong on that front. Talk about a bad signing, it would have kept us from possibly going to the playoffs this year. Maybe next year too.
  5. Marlins tied it up with the Nats 4-4. Bottom 8 still batting runner on second, one out.
  6. Well hopefully he come back good...hard to depend on that. Two bigger questions: 1) Is Suter a viable bullpen arm (I don’t think he will be a starter. At least not out of the gate) 2) Will they bring back Pomeranz The pen has a tooooon of potential next year. But bullpens are also fickle. Answer to #1 > OBVIOUSLY YES. Answer to #2 > if Stearns can re-sign him and doesn’t trade Hader, we’ll have the best bullpen in MLB history.
  7. Who is the guy on the board who claims Hurdle is the best manager in baseball I never said he was the best manager in baseball. Pittsburgh needs a new voice. Hurdle is a great manager. Up until this year, arguably gets more out his teams than any manager in baseball, and not just the pirates. 07, with the Rockies, the ultimate motivator, going 23-1 and getting to the World Series with a team that had no business being there. Kinda like what Counsell is doing with the brewers right now.
  8. He's just the opposite of Huira. H I U R A
  9. Yeah, 2nd base. Leave him be, he’ll get better > book it. Don’t move him, he’ll get to close to average defensively, and because of the bat, will be outrageously valuable.
  10. Funny. Impossible set up? We’ll be underdogs big time. Just the way Counsell wants it. Tremendous pressure on both those teams. None on us.
  11. Reds just took the lead on the Mets in the bottom of the 8th 3-2. Top of the 9 th.
  12. They can believe what they want, crew in their heads too. Flaherty can’t beat the brewers. Their bullpen’s overrated. Hitting is worse than MKE. They’re getting bounced quickly from the playoffs.
  13. Which is why when given the choice of either team broadcast, I'm actually watching the Cards feed with Tim freakin' McCarver. That's how put off I am by Len Kasper's voice. Talk about torture. Cadence or words..........
  14. Disagree. Shaw, imo, is traded this offseason. Burnes will be in AAA, working on his mix of pitches and command.
  15. Yes, he did. Really impressive. We’ll just have to see about that WC loss though!
  16. 1) I'm supremely confident stating as fact that you absolutely, 100% do not know the facts of this case either. I'm also supremely confident stating as fact that you absolutely, 100% do not know what their attorney advised them of. B) This from the person who, when I referenced this article, responded by saying, "I've read enough." 3) You seem to be ignoring one major implication of pleading not guilty and going to trial, which is that the case then becomes public. (Never mind the financial cost of hiring an attorney for a court case, which you assume they had the money to do.) You don't need to look any further than Quintez Cephus to see what happens when criminal allegations become public. Cephus was kicked off of the team when the allegations were made, and he was expelled from school when he chose to take the best path to defending himself against the criminal accusations. Heimlich was in an even tougher situation - he wasn't in college or the pros yet. He couldn't apply for reinstatement because he wasn't in either yet. If the case became public, would any college have offered him a scholarship? What implications would that have had on his future? What effect would that have had on any career beyond baseball? What if that had showed up on a background check - would an employer then offer him a job? How do you know what was best for him and his future? 4) Criminal defense attorneys on this board have told you that it is common for innocent people to plead guilty to lesser charges to avoid court and/or take certainty of outcome. Yet you assume that simply because someone pleaded guilty means they are guilty. To paraphrase what a high school teacher on this board said, would you want you on a jury? 5) Even if he is guilty, should mistakes made by teenagers be held against them for the rest of their life? The human brain isn't fully developed until around age 25; that's why teenagers (and younger) do stupid things. I sure hope that you never made any mistakes when you were a teenager. 6) Have you ever had to stand in front of a judge as a young person and enter a plea, not having any idea how any of your options will affect your future? I have. One of the best posts I’ve read all year.
  17. This is wonderful news, looks like it might get done. Lyles Woodruff Houser Burnes, that’s some serious talent in the rotation moving forward. This pitching staff might not need much upgrading after all. Lots of options for Stearns this offseason. Do we take the option on Anderson or save the 8.5? Keep or trade Davies? Try to re-sign Gio? Sign another FA pitcher for the rotation?
  18. Well then here’s to seeing another blow out tonight. Love to see Burnes pitch back to back, which is what he might have to do in the playoffs. Baby steps to teenagers to young man to stud again, so he’ll probably need 3 more outings, if he does well in this next blow out (Tonight/Tomorrow?)maybe we can see him early in a closer game, or maybe CC loves Burnes like I think he does, and like some of us, want to give him a real chance to see what he can do again?
  19. Totally agree. If he pitches some these last 8 games, imo, that means it’s possible there at least considering him for the playoffs.
  20. Watching Burnes last night has me wanting to see more of him this last 8 games. He looked just like he did last September. Dominant, confident, focused. Can you imagine this pen with a 2018 Burnes. I know, he’s had a horrible year, but so did the pitching staff till August 31. I’d potentially rather see Burnes than Black or Albers in the playoffs. Lastly, if we need a K late in a game, other than Hader and possibly Pomeranz and Peralta, he’d be the one I’d bring in to get it.
  21. What was it like 6% or less September 1? Why even bother with these projections with the brewers, last year September 1 it was ~ 5% to win the division. Pre-season last year 86 wins, off by 9-10, that’s a lot. This year 85 or 86, closer but gonna still be low. They need to skip the brewers, there just embarrassing themselves.
