  1. But, these are not regular season games per-say, far from it. Burning desire to win trumps everything. We know from experience, teams that absolutely have to win vs teams that don’t, usually do win, I would argue at an unusually high rate. That’s why, with all other factors being equal the projection of the crew at 6.5 is asinine.
  2. Absolute idiots. Analytic geeks to the max. Zero common sense. Comical.
  3. It won’t matter much, all the games will probably be close, nail biters, just like 90% of the previous games. I like our experience winning these types of games. But, it sure would be nice if we could get a blow out victory in one of these games, to reset the pen.
  4. No way he plays these next 2 weeks. Even the most minor of sprained ankles takes more than 2 weeks to heal up. He’s a huge loss to that team, way more than Baez. He’s their Yelich. MRI could put an end to his season. We’ll see.
  5. Yes agree 100%. But Cole is unique in the following way: Superb mechanics, easy heat, I believe, helps keep him healthy over most other pitchers. That's what they said about Mark Prior too. Ok, just make sure we have insurance, win this thing, and then trade, before he’s 31. I get the risk with a long term contract on any pitcher. But a prime aged, experienced, Cole, giving us 2 Aces with a dominant bullpen gives us our best chance with Yelich to win the title.
  6. Great post. Really well done, explaining the Brewers RD anomaly. I would add the sheer number of nail biters this team has had, has battle hardened the players more than other contenders, and now that this teams been reinforced with winners from AAA, this bodes extremely well this next 6 weeks.
  7. There’s no way this team isn’t making the playoffs. It’s destiny. Can of corn dropped. Opponents closer “sick”. Bad luck all year long, has turned. This team will continue to shock the baseball world, but not most of us.
  8. Yeah I'll freely admit that i was wrong on Woodruff. Out of the 3 rookies he was the one I thought would fail but he proved me wrong, he was outstanding before the injury. I barely mentioned him because I didn't think he was as important to the staff but if we do miss the playoffs his injury is probably the biggest reason since it spanned so much larger a time span than Yelich's did. We tend to forget it at this point but Knebel's injury was huge too. We would easily have 2 or 3 more wins on the season if he hadn't got hurt before it even started. Agreed. They just don't have the horses that they had last year whether that is due to injury, failure to acquire or regression. Makes me wonder how they are still hanging around at this point. The offense hasn't been THAT great. I guess we just have some pitchers getting hot at the right time ([sarcasm]probably due to excellent coaching[/sarcasm]). It's hard to wrap my head around. Suter Pomeranz Peralta Jackson Hader Guerra Lyles Claudio have been fantastic since September 1. Black Gio Houser Anderson Davies have been solid if not fantastic. That’s a lot of good to solid pitching. Pre-September doesn’t matter, this is a good staff NOW. And it’s about to get better with Woodruff.
  9. No, we’ll win anyhow. Can’t you see that this is a team of destiny? I mean a dropped can of corn?
  10. Mets lose 3-2. 3 back of the crew now.
  11. Theo/Hoyer/Madden are gone after this year. then as Sandy Anderson said on MLB now last week, the “large markets will hire the smart GM, and never lose again, unless there are changes”.
  12. It would be shocking if he returns in the regular season. Guessing he’s out as long as Yelich. But we’ll see.
  13. If you ignore the past you are doomed to repeat it. They most certainly should look at the past and learn from that experience going forward. It matters a great deal. Figures. Go ahead and tell me how ruminating on the stretch of games he’s wanting to do if we don’t make the playoffs is related to your take on ignoring the past, doomed to repeat.
  14. Not too long ago the brewers were only one game over .500. Now we're 2 weeks from the finish line and still playing games with meaning. If the Brewers end up falling short, I’m going to be looking at that 28-36 stretch from mid June to late August that included a lot of losing series to bad teams as the reason why. Can tell a beaten down, long time suffering brewer fan. Deep breath, relax and have some fun with this flawed, but fun and unique brewer team. Don’t look back, the past doesn’t matter, look ahead, that’s all that matters. Good things happen when you least expect them to.
  15. Brewers: 11 over > -30 RD! Confounding the Analytical’s of the baseball world. Old schoolers like me are lovin’ it.
  16. After saying that this morning, I feel like I should be going to Vegas, or, at least, playing the lottery. Best prediction I’ve ever seen! Wow!
  17. Don’t have their feed, I have the brewer feed today unlike last 2 games. I bet it was priceless. Dan McLaughlin must have swallowed his gum.
  18. No Bell, No Stallings, No Marte, No Polanco, No Crick, No Archer, No Taillon, No Kuhl, there’s others missing too, but I’ll stop there. Bell and Marte could be back for the crew series.
  19. I haven’t seen a post that says RD doesn’t matter. And yes the teams with the best records have the highest RD. But, there are exceptions, like the brewers of this year, right now -31, but 10 over. A great front office, a great manager, a bad bullpen for most of the year, but a good closer, and a team that is terrible at pouring it on, that suddenly gets it all together with 28 games to play, can beat the RD.
  20. When the brewers make the playoffs with a negative RD, what will be your excuse then. Counsell is a big reason why this team is outperforming it’s RD.
  21. Agree. Case in point > Friday’s game vs Cards, 4-0 cards lead, CC wants to save his good pitchers, so he pitches Faria and Nelson > this team’s mop up pitchers, and they give up 6 runs. In a real game they don’t pitch. This happens a lot thru out the year. Teams with better depth in their pen than us, “better mop up arms” save meaningless runs. Then we have teams like us this year that hover around .500 with a negative 30 RD, then get hot in September, win a lot of close games, and shoot the RD to heck. Just like all stats > can be Skewed. Analytics with common sense and a good set of eyes is where it’s at.
