  1. We’re 6-7 weeks from seeing what Stearns has in store for us to beat out the Cubbies, and ultimately the LAs. Attanassio has already said he will have the money available if need be to improve the team at the deadline. So we’ll see if he’s putting his money where his mouth is or not by midnight July 31.
  2. A brutality honest, non-rationalization, post. Brutality honest sounds violent. That said, I haven't seen anybody rationalizing, just you continually throwing around that word. All I've really seen people saying is that this isn't some division clinching, throw your hands up acquisition, while conceding that it probably makes the Cubs better this year. No denying this hurts our chances of winning the division

  4. You have to wonder why Boston had no interest in resigning him and why he was a FA this long. Boston’s cost if the signed Kimbrel > 65 mil incl. tax.
  5. Let’s see how much money is spent at the deadline, to improve. Because in order to sustain the success, I think we can all agree that’s going to be hard to do if we have to give up much if any real prospect capital.
  6. Even if there was some truth to the "lying owner" narrative, what would be the logical response as a fan base? Show up at Attanasio's house with torches and pitchforks? No ... if you are that incensed with ownership and the team's leadership structure, your only recourse as a fan is to stop buying merchandise, and stop going to games. Basically boycott. That would probably include ceasing all posting on websites dedicated to hardcore fans of said franchise as well. I guess I prefer to root for the guys we do have, and continue to hope that this already good team continues to improve. Boycotting won’t work. Too much $ in from National tv and other sources, the effect would be negligible at best.
  7. Market size > smallest revenue > 15-20th smallest
  8. Really good post. You won’t get much of a response, because it’s hard to argue against your more than reasonable take.
  9. Why is that in quotation’s? Yes, he’s not a bad owner. There are much much worse owners> Nutting comes to mind immediately But when you say you will bank money and spend when extremely competitive, we’ll then do it. Have you considered for even a millisecond the possibility that they may not feel he is worth a certain amount due to their own scouting of him/risk of age/decline? Why is it immediately penny pinching every time they don't get a player you want? Answer’s to both questions: 1.) yes 2.) it is about the profit
  10. Exact same words I spoke during the Harry Dalton Bud Selig time period. Still waiting.

  12. 10 mil less from them. 10 mil more from us. 130 mil to 51 mil would have been better.
  13. Plus, he's mainly just a one inning guy with no flexibility beyond pitching ninth innings. If i was running a team with a huge revenue stream, then maybe i could justify spending 15 million per on a one inning reliever, but not a team lacking large market revenues. As brewers fans I can’t blame anyone for trying to rationalize this, it’s human nature. Some of us have been saying how unfair the economic’s of baseball are to a team such as the crew, but you know what, it’s a crutch, a reason or a way for an owner to make a certain profit every year with impunity, like our owner is. I remember our owner when we rebuilt In 2015 2016 2017 and we had nothing payrolls, maybe it was before the rebuild, saying we could bank $ for use in a competitive year. So instead, new concessions, new ST facilities, buy the Carolina team > all making the franchise worth more. Why not put your money where your mouth is mr owner. Buy the Carolina team after a one year, temporary 160 mil payroll so we have an opportunity, A REAL OPPORTUNITY TO COMPETE WITH THE 200++ PAYROLLS.
  14. It would have given us the 2 best pen arms in the world on the same team, so yeah I think it would of put us over the top for the next 3 years. While I admire your optimism, and yes a Kimbrel/Hader bullpen would have been formidable, if based on previous performance of both of them. However, the pragmatist in me says this team has too many holes. Braun is at the end of his career, Cain appears to slowing down, and Shaw and Aquilar have dropped off the proverbial cliff. Davies and Woodruff have performed well, but the rest of the starters are Jekyll and Hyde. Just too many maybe's and what if's for me to think that signing Kimbrel was the final piece for a World Series title. Not just this year but 2020 2021 as well, perfect window fit, next year’s back end: Kimbrel Hader Knebel Wahl/Jeffress. This year’s weaknesses can be fixed offensively, but Kimbrel was the pitcher that would have moved us closer to beating LA. Now we have to get past the Cubbies too.

  16. Good outing from Rasmussen. Second game in a row with 75 pitches. More than holding his own in AA, if he keeps this up, he’s in AAA sometime in the near future.
  17. We’ll see if you still feel that way if the crew hasn’t won the championship and it’s the year 2046.
  18. He couldn’t get his breaking ball over, he had no command at all of any of his pitches. But the potential is there for him to excel. In fact I’m betting on it, just leave him be, by the all star game he’ll be another one of our stoppers.
  19. Sheesh. If you're that upset, the Cubs bandwagon has room for you. I hear they just signed your favorite closer. The Milwaukee Brewers are the defending NL Central champs. They were one game from a World Series appearance. They were in 1st place in the division going into tonight's game. Losing out on a reliever that is likely going to give them 35 innings this season is far from a death sentence. It’s not a death sentence. David vs Goliath part 3. David is 2 for 2. Third gonna be the toughest, hoping against hope Stearns can spend in July to improve our weaknesses. 2 bats and a pen arm.
  20. Boston couldn’t bring him back, 45 million contact would have cost them extra 23 million, because of the tax, the reports are saying his workouts in front of scouts and executives were “electric “
  21. Time will tell. My hunch is the opposite, hall of fame pitchers are really good.
  22. It should be prorated if 3/45. Whatever he agreed to get paid this year will have money shaved off for what portion of the season he missed. At least it usually gets reported that way and then someone eventually says they didn’t pay “X” amount because he wasn’t with the team all year. It might actually be $40mil through 2021...all depends on how they are reporting the contract. "Just to be clear: The $43 million in Craig Kimbrel's deal is fully guaranteed. The $10 million he'll receive this season is not prorated. He will get $16 million in 2020 and 2021, and the extra $1 million is guaranteed via the buyout on a fourth-year option." That’s the exact deal I’ve been talking about here for the last month. 10 million for this year is terrible news. This deal is one we could have easily done. We lose they win. Aren’t we sick of this crap yet? 50 years for some of us isn’t long enough? Let’s just kick the can til Selig and Uecker are dead.
  23. This team needed a shot in the arm. Sending Hiura down not exactly that shot. Now we have to watch Aguilar flailing away continually til even mr patient Stearns can’t stand it anymore, and Thames K at 36% before we get a better bat or two here. kimbrel was the answere to the pen not just this year but the next two as well.
  24. So what exactly are you guessing to be their payroll? Long term and short term? You seem to act like they are severely undercutting what they could be spending? I guess I find it questionable and debatable how much a postseason run/competitive team adds to a bottom line that a team would be willing to bank on happening in a given season. I find $140mil to be a conservative realistic number...but if you were bullish on competing adding crazy money $150mil isn’t out of the question. Also the Crew doesn’t have a new TV deal yet last I checked. Correct, that’ll be negotiated this off season, but I think we can assume it’ll bump up, maybe considerably. And yes, 150 a good guesstimate for breakeven. And that doesn’t include their playoff $ which my guess 10-15 million. My thinking is the following which I’ve already stated: In the competitive years spend close to the breakeven. Non competitive/rebuilding years reduce payroll to as low as possible and bank a ridiculous profit. What the heck is wrong with that?
  25. Well like Jim the moderator, who I respect as much as any one person on this site said better than I ever could, Attanassio could easily find the money for Kimbrel if he WANTED to. And then took a bunch of heat from stupid posters who did zero reading or even a modicum of research arguing things they knew nothing about, trying to crush him because he’s talking against the”party line”around here.
