  1. 1.) kimbrel 3 years at 45 plus the loss of a 4th round pick. I would/been arguing the most impactful arm available. Prospect capitol would be less than any team, probably pro-rated cost of 12 mil this year. We’d have the 2 most dominant bullpen arms in the world totally shutting down team’s ability to score late in games. 2.) Colome Signed at 7+ mil this year and next year final Arby. White Sox closer having a very good year. I would think expensive prospect wise. Hahn and Stearns make a lot of trades together. 3.) Herrera Signed 2 years 18 mil with 10 mil club and 1 mil buy-out. Set-up man with the Sox, also pitching well, probably not quite as expensive as colome. 4.) Givens First year arby at 2+ mil, dominant stuff, gonna be very very expensive prospect wise. If we’re not going to sign kimbrel, I’d take either of the Sox relievers, quality, experienced high leverage pen arms that can not only help this year but next as well.
  2. Stearns is awesome. He knew what we had all along, struggles by the young guns be darned. This pitching staff is starting to take shape, and going forward will turn into one of the best staffs in the NL. Slowly but surely roles are being defined, which is going to allow this staff to shine. With Woodruff emerging as the STARTER we thought he’d be, and Burnes to the bullpen to dominate with his HIGH 90s FB and elite slider, Guerra a dominating high leverage pen arm, Jeffress slooowly improving, Albers looking like last year’s pre-injury Albers, Hader being Hader, Rubber arm Claudio capable of 100 relief appearances, this has the potential to be a superpen later in the year. As far as the rotation, the experience of Gio, Anderson Davies and Chacín and the emergence of Woody is better than our starting staff at any point last year. Then there’s jimmy Nelson. Who, I know I know most think is a wild card, but who I believe can be a dominant starter or pen arm. Not to mention a couple of potential call-ups with high end upside, and an abundance of $ and a stearns that can figure out what we need at the deadline. I’ve never been more bullish on a brewer pitching staff than this one.
  3. With Burnes now in the pen, I think we’re going to see the Corbin Burnes that struck out 9 Cardinal batters in the first three innings. Give him an outing or two to settle in, then watch him dominate. 96-98 with his devastating slider > this bullpen gonna get good in a hurry.
  4. 1.)Rasmussen Everything about him screams Ace/Closer. AA/AAA soon then on to Milwaukee for the playoffs. I think the crew in ST saw knebel clone and already had designs on him helping this year, and him starting his first ever minor league game in miller park a sign of things to come. 2.)Perdomo Big left handed multi-inning power pitcher, command sloooowly improving, IF he continues his progression, he’ll be up before September. 3.)Sanchez Pitching well enough at AAA to get a call up this summer if needed. CC must like him, pitched him a lot in ST. Picked pitchers than I felt could help the big league club this year.
  5. Terrible coaching by DJ tonight, reds pitching gave up 8-0 lead, tied at 11 with the giants top of 10th.
  6. And Guerra with the curve and split, this year’s Jeffress. Now if jj can get going......
  7. Translation: "Yes" The only way to quiet the Johnson talk is to pitch better, which I’m confident will happen moving forward.
  8. Ok, the experiment is over. We just need to get thru the month of May and arguably the hardest opening 2 months schedule in baseball history, as close to .500 as possible. In June the starting staff should be a STRENGTH: Nelson Anderson Chacín Gio Davies > I would argue better than last year, with Nelson back and a healthy Davies. Woodruff to the pen to join Burnes, with Guerra Albers Claudio Hader Jeffress Sanchez? Williams? And this pitching staff should be in business til the deadline, then Stearns can Strengthen to superpen and then hopefully take down the dodgers.
  9. It's not worth it man. Tons of people have tried to set this guy straight, tons of times, and he just keeps on spouting off the same garbage thread after thread, night after night. It just doesn't sink in. Set me straight? There hasn’t been anyone, so far, that’s refuted anything I’ve said, let alone “set me straight” Just lots of “ Mark A is a great owner” talk or unless you work for the crew you don’t know crap. Just think on this for more than a moment: The reds, with way less revenue, have the same payroll we do! And we’re supposed to be all in? 1 game from the World Series vs last place team! Really?
  10. I agree. Call me crazy but I really think this team has most of the pieces in place to make a strong run down the stretch. If we take away the atrocious starts by Peralta, Burnes, and Woodruff to a lesser degree, the rest of the starters have fared quite well (with the exception of a few shaky starts by Chacin but he's never been very good in April). Chase and Zach have been great and Gio should be solid enough. Let's go with Chacin-Anderson-Davies-Woodruff-Gonzalez. Move Peralta and Burnes to the pen. I get it, they need to develop, but not if we want to be competitive this year. Please, no more starts for Peralta and Burnes. We just can't afford a high probability for loss in such a tight division. Start Gamel in the outfield when any RHP is starting. The position players are starting to hit and things will click soon. I think the only critical component we're missing is another high leverage arm to supplement Hader. Your take is EXACTLY what I think. When Nelson comes back to the rotation, woody can go to the pen. Then add that high leverage arm and we’re in business.
  11. This is kind of what I am wondering. Did Johnson look so good because other decision-makers came to him and said "let's put Burnes in the rotation" and Johnson said "no, bullpen him." Or is Johnson just a mechanics wizard that will consistently get the best performances out of his pitchers? I'm still wondering if the Brewers just screwed it up by assigning the wrong role in just about every single case where there was a decision to make. At least Woodruff has looked a little better in two of his last three starts, but his history shows that he has been a far, far, far better MLB pitcher as a reliever. Anderson began the year in the pen after having been a starter for most of his career, and the couple times he started he's looked far more effective. Guerra has done good work out of the pen, but with the struggles of the three young starters, maybe the Brewers should have done what Guerra's done most of his career and pitch him as part of the starting rotation. Burnes looked plus-plus-plus out of the bullpen last year, and it took a 10+ ERA to convince the Brewers they couldn't send him out to the mound as a starter (for now). Peralta's performance tailing off after a hot MLB start last year, and back in the rotation this year and throwing 80+% fast balls which may be one of the reasons his performance faded a bit as time went by. Hook may very well be a pitching coach bum. However, I would have to think these role assignments out of spring training has input from Hook and Counsell and Stearns, and to this point it looks like they are trying to pound square pegs into round holes. Guerra has pitched much better out of the pen than he pitched last year in the rotation. We don’t need him starting either, but he’s needed big time in this bullpen. Otherwise, I agree with the rest of your take.
  12. Sure, instead of refuting anything I said, we laugh, it’s the easy out.
  13. No, it’s an opinion based on research, as opposed to an opinion based on no research.
  14. First bad outing of his year. Let’s see what he does moving forward.
  15. Yeah Yeah, I know, too much work to find the truth, easier to pull up the mocking....
  16. Concerned yet? There are a LOT of posts that did not age well in this thread... including my own. I doubted the starting rotation, but thought we had enough arms in the pen to hide a few flaws. Neither side of the pen/rotation argument turned out well, and I don't think anyone saw it coming where both sucked this deep into the season. Right now we really need Anderson to return to the rotation when healthy, and getting a good Jimmy Nelson back would help as well, but man did every possible regression candidate happen so far. Not concerned with the rotation. Burnes Peralta terrible in the rotation, that’s been remedied by their removal. Nelson/Woodruff,Anderson,Chacín, Gio, Davies better than what we had last year, good enough to win. Bullpen is not strong, but with Burnes joining it now and Woodruff likely when Nelson ready, has potential to be a strength sooner rather than later. Mix in a Soria or BETTER trade acquisition @ deadline, callup ( Rasmussen )? ( houser, brown )? Peralta ? Jeffress improvement, this pen could rival last year’s playoff pen last 2 months. And yes my predictions didn’t even make it thru the first month without looking silly ridiculous. Burnes is a long way from tor Peralta even longer Woodruff could break out next year Nelson > will lead this staff and be our ace
  17. Limited resources? Why are they limited? Limited by the salary cap? Luxury taxes? I don't get limited. They found 30 million dollars laying around for Moose and Grandal and I was fine with it. They found a ton of dough to refurbish spring training site. Miley wants an extra million bucks and all of a sudden we are limited? Do not let the small market team off the small market hook. * The Brewers are, at the present time, considered a MID-MARKET team REVENUE wise. Lower end mid-market but mid- market none the less. * the Reds have the same payroll as the Brewers, approximately 127 million. The Brewers have much more revenue than the reds. * the Brewers have much more revenue than the reds but have the same payroll. * I think it’s apparent that Mark A & his investors have CHOSEN an approximate payroll for this year and aren’t going to move from their CHOSEN budget. It doesn’t matter that knebel lost, Jeffress injured, bullpen decimated, team in trouble. * it’s Attanasio’s team and he can do what he wants, spend whatever he decides, just don’t tell us your “ALL IN” financially, when A FEW of us know it’s just words. 127 million is NOTHING. It’s the same payroll as the Cincinnati Reds, a team with LESS REVENUE than than the crew. ** that diatribe was my opinion, based on research, not stated as fact **
  18. Fine then bat him 7th. He has single-handedly killed more rallies than just about any player I’ve ever seen in one month. Wait, let me restate that, Travis Shaw has killed more rallies than any player I’ve ever seen in my entire life in one month.
  19. With Braun’s permanent, age related regression, there needs to be a hard platoon with Gamel. That, with Aguilar’s new found confidence, Arcia’s moderate improvement, we just have one massive black hole > Shaw. Drop him down to 8th in the batting order, where he won’t kill as many rally’s. When he gets going this offense should be what we thought it would be going into the season.
  20. Agree the need would have to great, and guessing that it will. If they pitch him, it could be 2-3 inning stints, 30-40 pitches max with 3 days rest. Could still be a real weapon.
  21. Agree, weak contact, like the change and curve he threw. Give the guy his 4 days of rest and we’ll see if he’s better next time out.
