  1. Hader and Williams are locks. Suter and Peralta are as well, assuming they're not in the rotation (in which case Lindblom/Houser probably fall into the pen). I'd love to see Rasmussen take the next step this year. The rest will probably be sorted out during the Spring. 2018-20 as RP (MLB): 2017-19 (MiLB):
  2. Woodruff and Burnes are locks. Anderson, Lindblom, and probably Houser have a leg up on the rest, but Peralta should get a good look and Lauer's in the conversation too. Zimmermann's a huge dark horse/lottery ticket. Suter may be an option too, but I think he's settled into that multiple inning/swing man type role too well to move him. 2018-20 as SP (MLB): 2017-19 (MiLB):
  3. Outfield should be another interesting battle to follow. Yelich, Cain, and Garcia are locks, but the 4th spot and a possible 5th spot should be up for grabs. 2018-20 vs. RHP (MLB): 2018-20 vs. LHP (MLB): 2018-20 Fielding in OF (MLB): 2017-19 (MiLB):
  4. I would guess this is a case of they're already comfortable with Taylor in CF, they want to see what Fisher can do there. Kind of like what it sounds like they're going to do with Arcia/Urias at SS this Spring.
  5. Third base is going to be a fun battle to watch this Spring Training! So I thought a dedicated thread would make some sense. Also with the news that Arcia will be getting work at 3rd (and CF) and Urias will be getting a lot of time at SS, I suspect this thread will delve into the SS and utility infielder battles quite a bit as well. With that said, I gathered some preliminary stats together to reference as these guys get going today. 2018-20 vs. RHP (MLB): 2018-20 vs. LHP (MLB): 2018-20 Fielding at 3B (MLB): 2017-19 (MiLB):
  6. No you'll be blacked out completely. I do run into that still if the Brewers are playing the Orioles or Nationals.
  7. Luckily I decided to get a job in Baltimore and move there 10 years ago, so I don't have problems getting them on MLB.TV, but if I was still in Wisconsin I would just get cable. The internet/cable package deals are probably less expensive than what I'm spending doing internet + YouTube TV + MLB.TV + NBA TV anyways. I'd miss being able to login wherever, although it sounds like that might be available with cable nowadays anyways.
  8. I imagine Kotsay could still speak to the city, stadium, the culture, and even Counsell to an extent.
  9. I think something has to budge between Narvaez, Pina, and Nottingham still. So likely one of them opens up a spot one way or another as well.
  10. Take this with a huge grain of salt, but this is a fun tool even if I have some major questions about it: 2018-20 JBJ Home Game Spray Chart (overlaying AmFam Field): Here's where I'm skeptical of this tool... Here's the same spray chart overlaying Fenway: A lot of those doubles to left field can be explained by bouncing off the Green Monster, but there are some shots to right field that look like they should have been gone, but were outs or doubles. So you can't totally just see what's beyond the fence at AmFam and assume it'd be a homerun there. All that said, he does seem to have a pretty balanced spray chart!
  11. If everyone's cool accepting their roles (ie. Cain needs extra days off, Garcia is better suited vs LHP, and JBJ is better suited vs RHP), it certainly seems like Yeli, JBJ, Cain vs. RHP and Yeli, Cain, Garcia vs. LHP could be very productive. 2018-20 vs. RHP: 2018-20 vs. LHP:
  12. Yep, that it is preferable to have the roof open and will do so when they can. There's not a 100% dangerous - 100% safe threshold here. I'm sure they'll put in enough precautions to make it very safe even with the roof closed, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't keep it open as often as they can still.
  13. I enjoyed it. I watched it awhile ago and I think it may have taken a few episodes for me to get into, but it's a weird (obv. lol), dark show, with some good intense moments.
  14. Agreed. Let Robertson (or whomever) face whatever random part of the lineup is up in the 9th and situationally target the opponents' best hitters/game's most pivotal moments during the 6th-8th innings with Hader and Williams.
  15. Interesting to hear they're still in on relievers, and not just guys that would come on a NRI. There are a few interesting arms still out there among the 33 relievers listed on FanGraph's free agent tracker: 2018-20:
  16. He's the last guy in for me. It wouldn't surprise me at all if he doesn't make the squad Matt Albers made the team in 2018 and 2019. I think veteran presence makes Boxberger a near lock on opening day, but if he shows signs of control issues he's had in recent years, he might be gone by Mother's day. Matt Albers was a better pitcher in the years leading up to the Brewers obtaining him than Boxberger has been recently. He may still make the team, but I think he has to show more than Albers needed to when he was signed. Albers 2015-17: Boxberger 2018-20:
  17. It counts. But it counts as a weird, small sample season that has many caveats built into it that should be considered when evaluating a player moving forward.
  18. Yeah that’s only two weeks worth of games. I’m guessing he’d have to look pretty crappy in those two weeks not to make the roster. Seems like just a creative way to delay making a 40-man decision. "We want to offer you $3M, but we don't want to be forced to do a corresponding move right now. If you let us sign you as a NRI, we'll give you $1.5M now and another $1.5M on March 15th when we make it official."
  19. I would bet against that easily. I have to agree. Hiura will probably be in there everyday (at least to start the game), but I would bet Wong is next in line and then there might be quite a gap to the next guy after that (depending on how Cain's season goes).
  20. Just wanted to throw this out there: - First off, he was really, really good 2017-18 with us. Remember how much talk there was about how great the trade was to get him and that it was one of the most lopsided trades ever? Those were good times. - 2019 was disastrous, but it was only 270 PAs as he got off to a bad start and got pulled in and out of the lineup and sent down to the minors for an extended period (where he raked by the way, hitting .286/.437/.586/1.023 with a 147 wRC+ in 174 PAs). By the time the second half came around, Hiura was up and Moose was back at 3B, so he never got consistent playing time at that point. - 2020 wasn't 2017 or 2018, but he did bounce back to a 92 wRC+ in another small sample of 180 PAs - All the projections have him improving offensively from last year, and ZiPS is especially optimistic on him returning with a 22 HR season if he gets about 2/3rds playing time - He was one of the best defensive 3B available this offseason. Shaw at 3rd, Urias/Arcia at SS, Wong at 2B, Cain back in CF should be really good defensively and should benefit the whole pitching staff (as long as Hiura at 1B doesn't end up negating all that... *cross fingers!*) If he can produce close to 100 wRC+ and play above average defense at third, this could be a major win. That could also have a nice side effect of solidify SS as well, as Urias could prove to be a pretty big upgrade over Arcia there as well.
  21. Sounding like it is a minor league NRI deal, which is nice since it means they don't need to make a 40-man move right away:
  22. This rotation looks familiar We basically have the same top 8 starters going into the season as last year: Woodruff, Burnes, Anderson, Houser, Lindblom, Lauer, Peralta, Suter. But we've got an added wildcard in Zimmermann this year as well. Should be an interesting Spring battle for the last couple spots. But overall, I like the Anderson re-sign and it makes the depth going into the season feel a lot better. It'll be interesting to see how these guys do with the improved defense behind them as well.
  23. 2018-20 Defensive Stats at 3B: I don't know if someone with better defensive stats understanding can explain Franco's crazy bad DRS (defensive runs saved) score. It is a cumulative stat and he's got the most innings in at the position, so it makes sense that it could be a little further from zero than others, but that's pretty drastic.
  24. I have high hopes for Urias, so I don't really have an issue with him beginning the year as our 3B... as long as Arcia produces. Otherwise longterm I think you want Urias to be the guy that replaces Arcia at SS. But for now, we can jumble around Urias, Arcia, Robertson, etc., and see what we have before maybe making a move at the deadline if needed.
  25. And now adding Franco to the mix... Three Year Splits 2018-20 vs. RHP: 2018-20 vs. LHP: Two Year Splits 2019-20 vs. RHP: 2019-20 vs. LHP:
