  1. Eh? The man has a 11.4% career walk rate. Whatever his other faults may be, the man at least knows how to take walks. His career walk rate is right in step with that other God of walks Jace Peterson (11.2%). They’re interchangeable freely available talent 2018-21 vs. RHP: 2018-21 vs. LHP: Throw in he's only 27 compared to the 30 year old Peterson and 32 year old Gordon, and I'll give Robertson a bit more leash here. Getting some regular playing time while Wong is out could be beneficial to see what he's got.
  2. I'm okay with "gambling" $10M-ish each on Wong and JBJ instead.
  3. Yeah, I don't buy into the "bad clubhouse presence" possibility. Management is set on Urias at short and that makes Arcia a bad fit on the team. Not forcing him to be a utility guy when we have better options all over the place makes putting together the roster much easier. I don't think the timing is that odd, I'm pretty amazed they were able to get anything for him at all. So I think an offer came through and they took it.
  4. Yeah, it doesn't seem like the Rays would be looking to trade Lowe right now. They probably will when he has a year or two left and is still only making $10.5-11.5M per, but not now when they have him under control for 6 more years. On the other side, this is the unfortunate thing about our biggest trade assets being relievers, you're just never going to get the value for them you think you should get (unless you're the Yankees and you have a time machine). Also, as good as he's been, Williams still only has 40 IP in the big leagues so far. If he continues to show he's elite, his trade value could sky rocket in a year. Similarly, if Urias breaks out this year, his value could increase tremendously. But as of now, even though all three players have potential, that's a reliever with 40 MLB IP, an infielder who hasn't hit much in the majors yet, and a prospect. I'd love to acquire Lowe, but those guys have way too much potential and not nearly enough value yet to part with.
  5. I like it, let's go!
  6. I can't agree with this. The time to find your wallet is the same as to find your phone and then after that it's: grab cash vs. unlock phone + wait for phone to load + find app + wait for app to load + find ticket in app... not to mention hope your internet is good + hope your phone hasn't died + hope you haven't been logged out of the app for some reason, etc... and a lot of that happens even if you do have your phone ready and it just enters the lock screen on you while you're pulling up to the parking attendant. I think you'll have more people that won't have the right screen on their phone ready to go and there's a lot more going on that can make it take longer than simply paying with cash or showing some sort of printed ticket. Screenshot the QR code or bar code or whatever it is. Then all you have to do is open your photos, click the photo with the code and get it scanned. Simple, takes two seconds. Agreed, this is actually what I tend to do if I don't print it out, however if the conversation is about worrying about people who usually aren't prepared to hand cash to a parking attendant compared to people not being prepared to show their phone, this doesn't really apply. Otherwise, I could combat the "slow" cash exchange with, just have the correct change ready, and I'd still say that is faster than having to unlock a phone, pull up a photo, etc.
  7. Wish this game was on tv. I'd be interested in seeing what this Gallo flyball caught by LoCain, described as "Ball traveled 396 feet and left the bat at 109 mph" looked like:

  9. Can anyone share a link to where it's stated that they won't be allowing you to print off tickets at home? Doesn't the app just display a QR code anyways? Doesn't seem like there's any reason to discontinue printing your own tickets. If this was just a misinterpretation and they're just saying they won't be providing printed tickets, but you can still print your own at home, that would probably solve many of the issues people are concerned about.
  10. I don't think he's an upgrade over Robertson, but Arcia's another story... 2018-20 vs. RHP: 2018-20 vs. LHP 2018-20 Defense at 3B: They'd have to be all in on Urias at short and comfortable with Robertson as the backup (although Turang may not be far behind as well), but Shaw/Frazier at 3B and Urias/Robertson at SS (not suggesting a straight platoon here) could be very effective. That said, I'd be very surprised to see them go this direction.
  11. I will upvote Six Feet Under and watching Better Call Saul once you complete BB as well. Both addictive shows!
  12. Don't know about buying tickets via phone call, but I almost exclusively buy sporting event tickets via a computer and not my phone. I like to do a lot of comparing available tickets in different seats, for different games, using different ticket services, etc., and that all becomes very clunky on a phone. The fact that I work at a job where I'm used to a three monitor desktop setup probably doesn't help, lol, but I just can't get used to not having as many tabs and screens open in front of me at the same time when researching things.
  13. I'm in my 30s and I still print out tickets beforehand when possible, lol. Depending on my phone just causes me too much anxiety. 1.) I don't want to have to worry if I grab an Uber, meet up with friends somewhere for awhile beforehand, am texting/checking my fantasy lineup, etc. in the meantime, that my battery's going to drain and die before I get to the stadium. 2.) Once I get to the gate, if I don't have my phone ready to go and keep clicking buttons on it to keep it awake, I have to turn it on, enter my password, wait for the app to load, hope I have a good enough internet connection for it to load, find the place where the barcode is, etc., and that causes anxiety holding up the line compared to just pulling a piece of paper out of my pocket. So I totally understand the preference to at least have the option to print your ticket beforehand as well. It does seem like that solves a lot of the worry and concern for those that don't have a smartphone, don't want to depend on it, and/or don't want to slow down the lines more than you have to.
  14. Gotta like Woodruff and Burnes at the top and it's hard to complain about Anderson and Peralta at 3 and 4. If you're really only worried about one guy (who still has a chance to be pretty good too) you probably have a pretty good rotation. We have Lindblom, Suter, maybe even Ashby/Small that could step in if things really go south. Heck, Porcello's still sitting out there, maybe MA can stretch the payroll a little bit further still. But I'm willing to take a chance on Houser's low HR/high groundball rate with the improved defense and see if he can finally put things together first. I don't know if anyone else caught Narvaez' interview during the game a few days ago, but he picked Houser as the guy no one's talking about that he expects to have a good season this year. Hope he's right!
  15. I'll take the over on Cain playing 81 games this season: 2017 - 155 games played 2018 - 141 games played 2019 - 148 games played 2020 - Played 5 of 6 games before opting out 2021 - Projection systems predicting 119-125 games played. He saved his body from a year of wear and tear and with JBJ he will get consistent rest days when needed. The only reason to be down on his ability to stay on the field is because he's turning 35 this year (which I'm kind of surprised he's still only 34). From 2017-19, there were 29 outfielders age 35+ and 19 of the 29 played in over 81 games (with no minimum PA limit), and 17 of those 19 played in over 100 games. 10 of them played in at least 136 games. And that's including eight guys who were 38 or older and many guys who weren't even expected to have starting roles. He's had some understandable rust to shake off to begin Spring Training, but I'm looking forward to having Cain's defense and energy back on the team this year.
  16. This lineup isn't looking too bad: Second team doesn't look too shabby either: This team is definitely winning all the games!
  17. I don't think many here are "ok" with that possibility so much as accepting that he will likely get some time there since Shaw has been so bad against lefties. I wouldn't read too much into some of these quotes you're hearing out of Spring Training. If anything, what I've gotten out of Counsell saying he'll see time at different spots is that he's already downgrading Arcia's role on the team to a utility player, which could actually be a really solid spot for him. I'm sure if Robertson is out playing Arcia, he will end up getting more playing time as the season goes on. 2018-20 vs. LHP:
  18. No Giannis, no problem. 9 three pointers made and the Bucks are up 48-26 IN THE FIRST QUARTER! (please don't make this post look bad in three quarters...lol)
  19. McCalvy went full keep-as-many-players-in-the-organization-as-possible mode in his Opening Day roster prediction: https://www.mlb.com/brewers/news/brewers-2021-opening-day-roster-projection Basically, he pulled off keeping both Vogelbach and McKinney (and Zimmermann and Boxberger), by optioning Rasmussen, Topa, and Feyereisen to begin the year. That actually feels like a very "David Stearns move" to do. Zimmermann and Boxberger can pickup as many mop up innings as possible to avoid overworking the remaining pen (Hader, Williams, Suter, Yardley, and Peralta/Lindblom/Houser) and then you can start bringing those arms back up once you've had some extra time to feel things out.
  20. With camp about 2/3's of the way done, here's another update: Since the previous update: - Hiura has gone 5 for 15 with 2 doubles, .333/.375/.467/.842 - Vogelbach has gone 4 for 11 with 2 doubles, .364/.417/.545/.962 - McKinney has gone 4 for 13 with 4 homeruns, .308/.308/1.231/1.538
  21. It does feel like it's coming down to Vogelbach or McKinney for that final spot. Both lefthanded hitters. Both can backup 1st base. McKinney is 2 years younger and can also play the outfield corners, but Vogelbach showcased himself very well at the end of last season. Should be an interesting decision. 2021 Spring Training: 2018-20 vs. RHP (MLB): 2018-20 vs. LHP (MLB): 2018-20 Fielding: 2017-19 MiLB: Vogelbach 2021 Projections: McKinney 2021 Projections:
  22. And they're somehow tied at 80 with 3:29 to go.
  23. I wasn't so much thinking who's flat out a better defender I guess. More so that Arcia has only played SS and is just learning 3B this year, where Urias has some experience at 3B. That's why it seemed odd to me that in situations where they're both on the field at the same time, it sounded like CC wanted Arcia to play 3B. I would guess that they end up on the field at the same time a decent amount this year. He commented that if Shaw struggles that Arcia would be a candidate to get time there. If that was the case though, why wouldn't you just slide Urias over and have Arcia play SS in those games? Ah gotcha, that's reasonable. I think they just see Urias as a longer term solution there and would rather the "starters" not being the ones who bounce around defensively.
  24. Despite his reputation, the metrics (which I'm sure are still pretty flawed as far as evaluation goes) only show him as a middle of the pack SS the past three years: I think he's a guy that passes the eye test because of the occasional flashy play he makes, but he's far from the "elite" defender we think of him as. He hasn't looked very sharp this Spring either. I think I saw the other day that he's already racked up 4 errors (albeit I think some came at 3B). That said, I don't know if Urias is a better shortstop or not, but I wouldn't assume Arcia's a slam dunk better defender at this point either.
