  1. So you'd be complaining if the Brewers had signed Carlos Santana, Tommy La Stella, or Joc Pederson as well since those would be "bargain bin" signings also under your definition? No one here is saying he's the missing piece, but if you value defense at all (which you've made clear you don't) he's a very nice piece for the team and gives them a few options moving forward.
  2. Wong isn't Walmart shopping. He is a legitimate second baseman that just won a Gold Glove two consecutive Gold Gloves and can post 20 DRS in a season. The Brewers will always have to find market inefficiency. They can't buy sluggers like 1/3 of the league does. Small correction
  3. Probably not, but as currently constructed him and Urias are probably the current solution. Just like before today Vogelbach was the 1B. We'll see what else happens! But I don't think a Robertson/Urias combo at 3B would be a total black hole either. If nothing else you might get a nice .350 OBP out of it, which is a nice improvement over the .221/.301/.340 74 wRC+ line our 3B put up last year.
  4. With the team as it's currently constructed, I think he helps out Arcia and Robertson at both SS and 3B. The amount of playing time each gets will depend on how Urias develops, how Robertson looks with increased playing time, and what version of Arcia shows up. 2018-20 vs RHP: 2018-20 vs LHP:
  5. Just to put into perspective how big of an upgrade this is on defense... MLB 2B with at least 1,000 innings the past two years: Add in Cain returning to the field... MLB CF with at least 1,000 innings the past two years: The pitching staff should be grinning today.
  6. Is your projection system basically limited to players' time with the Brewers?
  7. For those keeping track on the offseason free agency sweepstakes: https://www.fangraphs.com/roster-resource/free-agent-tracker Wong has the 20th best projected WAR, tied with Carlos Santana and better than Tommy La Stella, Eddie Rosario, and Nelson Cruz. He has the 2nd highest projected WAR for a player signed in the NL Central: - Joc Pederson - Cubs (2.0 proj. WAR) - Kolten Wong - Brewers (1.8) - Adam Wainwright - Cardinals (1.1) - Tyler Heineman - Cardinals (0.4) - Trevor Williams - Cubs (0.4) - Andrew Chafin - Cubs (0.4) - Daniel Robertson - Brewers (0.2) - misc other dinky signings...
  8. That is correct. It means absolutely nothing to no one (except maybe you).
  9. Yes that was his career high, but he's done it multiple times: 2017: 108 wRC+ 2018: 99 wRC+ 2019: 108 wRC+ 2020: 92 wRC+ It's not like he's been significantly under that every year. And again his main asset is his defense, which compared to Hiura's is very significant.
  10. A wRC+ of 96 is roughly an average hitter, which maybe it's semantics but I don't consider that bad. You're also weighing in on his seasons that were 5+ years ago quite a bit, he's been pretty consistently adequate as a hitter the past 4 seasons and gets on at a good rate. Throw in his defense and he's a very nice add. Now would it have been better to use that money on 1B/3B? I think that depends on how the rest of the offseason goes. 2012-16: 2017-20:
  11. The Rockies had better be eating $100M of his contract instead of $50M to give up Hiura. So you're saying there was a chance? Never underestimate the Rockies.
  12. Posted this in the other forum, but he's really not that bad of a hitter and he gets on at a good clip. But obviously his biggest asset is his glove at 2nd. 2018-20 vs. RHP: 2018-20 vs. LHP:
  13. I like the addition, it will be interesting to see though if that $9M basically closes the book on adding anything significant to 1B, 3B, or SP. That said, if trades start happening, it could be a wild ride.
  14. Another example of Stearns (or should I be saying Arnold at this point?) pulling something out of his butt that no one saw coming, lol
  15. I like it. I've been worried so much about the offense, it would be a nice bonus to have a little more stability in the rotation as well. Although he's another guy that has continuous issues with blisters, isn't he? Regardless he's been very effective when he is on the field. 2018-20:
  16. He does make for a huge trade chip in this scenario.
  17. The improved defense at 2B would be nice. I love him, but Hiura does kind feels like a square peg in a round hole. Huge potential as a 2B, but the defense isn't quite there, so you can move him to 1B or DH (and there's question marks on if he can actually play first as well), but that kills a ton of his offensive value. It makes me wonder if there's a potential swap if we were to sign Wong. It would have to be someone with equally huge potential, we'd just be moving it to another part of the diamond. Otherwise, if Hiura can play 1st adequately, he is a pretty safe improvement over Vogelbach there. 2018-20 vs. RHP: 2018-20 vs. LHP:
  18. If he comes cheap enough to not prevent still finding 1B/3B options (and if any possible clubhouse cancer concerns are overblown, which I don't know if there are any, but he does seem kind of like a knucklehead), he would make a good 3rd/4th OF option and platoon partner with Garcia. 2018-20 vs. RHP: 2018-20 vs. LHP:
  19. This can only mean one of two things: 1.) They are best friends and Daniel Robertson will recruit Justin Turner to join the Brewers and/or 2.) Daniel Robertson is the brand new, younger, less expensive Justin Turner!
  20. Out of those players, Cron would be a big help versus LHP, otherwise none of them provide much more than we already have, other than some needed depth and insurance. Moreland becomes a bigger asset if there's a DH so Mitch can play 1st while Vogelbach DHs. 2018-20 vs. RHP: 2018-20 vs. LHP:
  21. Well they just signed Nathan Patterson to a minor league contract. That's a cheap pitcher. Who the hell is Nathan Patterson? I've never heard of this guy. [sarcasm]I hope he's actually qualified for the position.[/sarcasm]
  22. I think a lot of people aren't surprised by the Brewers' projected record at this point, but I think a lot of us are underestimating just how bad the rest of the division is as well.
  23. Yep! I believe heading into the offseason a few projection systems actually had the Brewers slightly favored in the division.
  24. Sounds like Marwin is close to signing... Red Sox were mentioned. Sounds like a few teams are in on him:
  25. A reminder that patience is needed this offseason...
