  1. 4th and 26... NO WAY WE CAN BLOW THIS!
  2. The point of the "trade value" website is to estimate how much value general managers will place on their players as trade assets. If two general managers make a real life trade and the previous values assigned to those players don't add up, they would be foolish not to re-assess those players' trade values as seen by general managers in the league. In the end, we're arguing about a toy. I understand the frustration if people were accepting the values on the site as gospel, but I don't think anyone is. As armchair GM's, it's a fun starting point to discuss potential trades that potentially involve 1000's of players that none of us have the time to research individually. It's fair to argue that you think player A or player B is valued too high or too low on the site, but it's silly to constantly bash the site as a whole based on how they handled re-evaluating a few guys after a single trade (a trade btw, in which the first year certainly didn't feel completely lopsided in favor of the home team).
  3. Sorry, I just strongly disagree. They whiffed on the valuations, then had to adjust after the fact to 'save face'. But, just IMO, of course. What are they supposed to do when they're wrong if they don't update their valuations? Just put an asterisk next the player noting that the value is wrong?
  4. Ignoring the low likelihood, and the fact that it would likely be an extremely shortsighted move to make, to just answer the initial question, this is likely a decent comparison: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/03/cubs-red-sox-finalize-epstein-compensation.html And with that in mind, no, I don't think the Brewers would be able to get a couple quality major leaguers in compensation for letting the Mets take Stearns off our hands.
  5. That would be a HUGE risk, but I like thinking outside the box! But seriously, that would be a pretty solid offseason. I think I'd prefer giving Hiura one more year at second and picking up a legit offensive threat at 1B rather than getting Wong and moving Keston to first, but Wong/1B FA, La Stella, Gyorko and Pillar for the bench, Ray, and a $5M RP (which could be a pretty darn good arm this offseason) would be about as good as you could reasonably expect I think.
  6. Where's this young, controllable talent coming from then? Practically every free agent is at least 30 years old. Hader seemed like the best trade candidate to really bring back some nice young pieces, but I'm doubting he has much value right now with how the offseason is going so far (and he ain't even going to be cheap anymore either). Best bet may be to plug holes and if it's not working out again and a guy like Santana is having a nice season you may be able to flip him for something nice.
  7. Because they have no one else. Who you gonna put in? Honestly, I'd probably throw him out there again next inning just in case his 1st inning yips are gone, it'll be brutal to blow up the bullpen and have that linger into issues for the next two potential games. That said, if he walks the first guy, get him out.
  8. With a nod to Vogelbach and maybe Gyorko?... he has been our best hitter this year I think? He's done a decent job, but I'd still at least throw Yeli above him, even in this "awful" year. Probably Braun too.
  9. [sarcasm]I don't know... Sogard is an odd year player, might want to give him another shot[/sarcasm] Career Splits - .266/.333/.375/.707 in odd years, .199/.275/.257/.531 in even years Last 4 Years - .284/.369/.426/.795 in odd years, .175/.263/.226/.489 in even years
  10. Glad they made the playoffs at all. Everything is gravy from here on out. My main hope for tonight is that Suter makes some sort of weirdly athletic play in front of the national audience.
  11. I definitely want the streak to continue and make it 3 straight seasons - however it feels a little wrong to become the only team in MLB history to make the playoffs with a losing record. Looks like the Astros are going to get in with a losing record as well, so at least we'll have company (assuming we actually make the playoffs still).
  12. His career numbers vs lefties are horrible. The reason he’s been a bright spot is because he’s only playing vs righties. A nice bonus to him not starting... when the Cards bring in a righty reliever, CC can cherry pick a spot in the next three batters to pinch hit Vogelbach if he'd like.
  13. I'm having trouble finding stats, but I recall seeing stats shown on TV broadcasts that among starting pitchers he's in the top five. Maybe for Starters but there are quite a few bullpen guys that throw as hard or harder. It's hard to compare starters to relievers. A lot of guys add a few ticks to their fastball when they only have to pitch one inning.
  14. Wasn't there some new rule this year about not throwing the ball around after a strikeout? Did Nottingham not get the memo? Or did they ditch that one? I've never seen someone behind the plate chuck the ball so hard after every strikeout, lol.
  15. He's been pretty 3TO this year. In a normal season he'd be on pace for about 35-40 HRs, 110-120 BBs, and close to 200 Ks
  16. I thought he was one of the fastest guys in the majors. [sarcasm]Not with the eye test[/sarcasm]
  17. I agree that they have been disappointing and frustrating to watch, but I will agree to disagree that the eye test outweighs stats (which also indicate that they have been disappointing in relation to expectations, but it's certainly not a stretch to consider them at least average players still)
  18. This is so accurate. What do you think their record would be if both werent just average this year? Have to imagine that's at least 2 or 3 wins. Average is being kind. Hiura: 105 wRC+ Yelich: 113 wRC+
  19. I appreciate you confirming that he stinks. Well, to be fair, in 2017 and 2019 he was worth 3.7 fWAR over 741 plate appearances going 183-for-645 (.284 BA) with 38 doubles, 3 triples, and 16 homeruns. So I think we oughta keep him for the upcoming odd year season!
  20. [pre]Player PA Actual wRC+ ZiPS Proj. wRC+ Diff. ------ --- ----------- --------------- ----- Hiura 152 93 104 -11 Yelich 142 112 133 -21 Smoak 121 68 90 -22 Garcia 120 76 93 -17 Sogard 97 45 70 -25 Narvaez 87 64 93 -29 Braun 71 53 91 -38 Urias 67 78 91 -13 Holt 36 -2 84 -86 Morrison 28 31 97 -66 Player PA Actual wRC+ ZiPS Proj. wRC+ Diff. ------ --- ----------- --------------- ----- Arcia 98 93 76 +17 Gamel 93 96 87 +9 Gyorko 52 147 109 +38 Pina 45 102 82 +20 Mathias 33 83 73 +10 Cain 21 118 95 +23[/pre] That's 921 PA's of under performance vs. 342 PA's of over performance among players with at least 20 PA's. No one could have predicted THIS much under performance. If anything it's a miracle they've won as many games as they have. You have to believe there will be some regression to the mean the rest of the season, it's just unfortunate they only have 25 games left this year instead of the 127 games they'd normally have left at this point.
