  1. And now they've got the record. And 12 different Bucks with a 3. Giannis is the only player to play tonight without one.
  2. Gosh darn it, lol. The Bucks have tied the NBA record for 3's in a game with 7 minutes to go, but TNT's no longer showing the game because it's such a blowout, lol. Eleven different players on the Bucks have made a 3 tonight!
  3. Count me in for mistaking which team is which about 80% of the time so far.
  4. On Christmas Eve 2006, the Brewers signed reigning NLCS MVP Jeff Suppan to 4 year, $42 million dollar deal. He went on to produce consecutive ERAs of 4.62, 4.96, 5.29, and 7.84, fWARs at or below 0 three of his four seasons, and accumulate an overall 29-36 record as a Brewer. https://www.espn.com/mlb/news/story?id=2707975 [sarcasm]So for those itching for a big signing, we just may get one today![/sarcasm]
  5. Not watching sports wasn't too bad when sports wasn't happening, but I'd have a harder time not watching sports if I knew it was going on.
  6. It's been boring that last couple winters before this as well. I don't know, the off season we signed Moose and Grandal was pretty cool... Year before that it was Yelich and Cain... The Winter Meetings certainly isn't as exciting as it used to be, but this is also a good reminder that it's still early in the offseason as well. The Grandal signing was on January 14th, the Yelich and Cain acquisitions happened on January 25th/26th, and the Moustakas signing was on February 19th. That said, I'm not holding my breath on anything too exciting happening this offseason.
  7. 13 of the top 100 players ranked by FanGraph's projected WAR have signed so far (by only 9 of the 30 teams): https://www.fangraphs.com/roster-resource/free-agent-tracker I wouldn't set expectations too high for making a big splash this offseason, but it's still very early.
  8. Is it fair to say you just aren't interested in, or maybe you're frustrated by, following minor league players? No one is saying this guy is a sure thing or even a top 20 prospect in the organization, they're just saying he's more intriguing than they thought he would be after it looked like we might release Knebel for nothing or maybe some cash. He's a nice chip to throw into the system, maybe he makes it, maybe he doesn't, but he's put up nice enough numbers at a young enough age that I'll be interested in seeing how he progresses, which is more than I can say for the majority of the pitchers in the system. This team needs as many bullets as they can get and it's great that they added another one, instead of... not adding one. I don't see what's to complain about here. As others have noted, I think the majority of this thread, on both sides, is because we have nothing else to talk about right now, lol. Let's hope something fun happens soon!
  9. Comparing that to the seven 2019 A+ Brewers pitchers with at least 5 starts, that would have made him 1st in ERA, 1st in K9, 2nd in BB9 (behind File w/ 0.9 BB9), and essentially tied with two players for the youngest (21yo Ashby w/ a 3.46 ERA and 22yo Hernandez w/ a 4.64 ERA). Comparing that to the nine 2019 AA-level Brewers pitchers with at least 5 starts, that would have made him 2nd in ERA (behind Supak w/ 2.20 ERA), 6th in K9, 3rd in BB9, and tied with Diplan for the youngest player. Maybe he was filler in the Dodgers' system, but he obviously is an upgrade to some of the stuff we've been throwing around down there.
  10. I think "I don't know what is" is correct and where the arguments are stemming from. Everyone is just surprised that the guy is even interesting and you're reacting as if people are saying he'll be a top of the rotation starter and an All-Star (which would be more inline with a "pie in the sky platitude").
  11. I don't think the Phillies have a current GM though, and according to this article, "Dombrowski is also expected to inherit the the GM duties": https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2020/12/10/dave-dombrowski-phillies-president-gm/3884645001/
  12. Well I guess it depends on how you're using the projections. He's really just rolling out player projections, not team projections. So if you're trying to compare how good different teams will be in 2021, then this is obviously a flawed tool. But if you're interested in analyzing the current makeup of the team and what they need to address during the course of the remainder of the offseason, it's a nice base for that discussion (and makes for some fun fodder to look forward to over a long offseason). I do agree, it'd be nice to get an update in March that's more team-centric. If nothing else, I guess that's what the standings projections will reflect at that point.
  13. 2018-20 vs. RHP: 2018-20 vs. LHP: Works for me!
  14. If you rotate these guys between 1B, LF/RF, and CF, he definitely would provide some extra punch against right handed pitching, and against lefties you've got some thump coming off the bench when a team is stuck with a RHP reliever due to the 3 batter minimum rule. But you definitely still need to find a capable 1B against left handed pitching then. 2018-20 vs. RHP 2018-20 vs. LHP
  15. He's still a nice piece to have on a 26-man roster, even in a limited role at 1.4M. He may also be a nice trade chip at that price for an AL team. Regardless, he gives them some nice flexibility/options at this stage in the offseason.
  16. If any prospects are part of a deal, it may make sense to hold off until after the Rule 5 draft on Thursday as well just to simplify negotiations (ie. fewer PTBNL lists and contingencies in case a guy gets picked, etc.).
  17. Yes. Certainly not a significant free agent. I predict our payroll will be below $100 million to start the season. Possibly closer to $85-90 million. They probably won't be spending $10M+ on a FA, but they could certainly obtain a decent, Carlos Santana-level, player or two and stay under $90M still. The good thing is that they already have bodies for the roster, so they really don't need to stretch whatever budget remains across more than a couple players. I don't think anyone's going to look at the roster we end up with and think it's competing for a World Series, but I think they'll definitely be competing for a 4th straight playoff appearance, which should be pretty fun/unbelievable for anyone that lived through the 90's and 00's with this team.
  18. I mean, yeah, probably. If I remember right, there was some positive buzz about the Smoak signing last year, but there was none with Gyorko. In fact, that move was pretty soundly panned. Which in the end shows what we all know about building a baseball team. At least with Nunez and Franco, there's still some perceived upside there. I would also add that I think we would expect more from Nunez/Franco than... Vogelbach/Urias or whatever it is we have now. Especially when you tack on the flexibility it then creates to play Urias at SS and potentially Vogelbach at DH. We need to make the roster better than it is now, unfortunately with our financial restrictions that doesn't necessarily mean it'll be significantly better than it was a year ago. That said, Gyorko was a nice surprise, but it's not like there's a high bar to surpass in order to get better production from the corner spots this year.
  19. It's also weird considering you have no control of the result of a coin flip. The weirdest thing is he thinks it's like a turnover BECAUSE the Bears basically had the ball to end the half and then again to start the 2nd half. Since the Packers started with the ball, the Bears getting the last full possession of the half means both teams had the same number of possessions. When in reality, if the Packers had the last full possession of the half (meaning the Packers actually had one more possession than the Bears) then that actually could be argued to be kind of like a takeaway. But both teams get a chance to start a half and then potentially "earn" an extra possession during that half, so the coin toss is pointless in that regard anyways.
  20. So you don't believe the Brewers and many, many more teams are going to CUT payroll? You want to add million upon millions of dollars. I think your chance of this happening are somewhere between zero and the proverbial snowball's chance in hell. To be fair, he only added about $12M if you consider he traded away/non-tendered almost $20M worth of estimated 2021 contracts. Not sure where that leaves the total payroll, but considering we're also dropping the contracts of Braun, Anderson, Sogard, Gyorko, etc. to FA, it may actually be a little less than the non-prorated payroll from last year, depending on how many pay raises everyone else gets. But anyways, it's not outrageous, and if you think it's taking on too much money, just drop the Didi signing and hold onto Arcia and go from there. Interesting ideas though, I'd love the Houser for Davis swap if the Mets would go for it.
  21. A quick Google search seems to contradict this: - https://www.thescore.com/mlb/news/1904963 - https://www.tampabay.com/sports/rays/2019/12/17/rays-officially-add-yoshitomo-tsutsugo-lose-avisail-garcia-to-brewers/ But the key point. If they didn't want him at that amount coming off a good season, they aren't going to want him at that amount coming off the season he just had and certainly not with Snell going the other way. Just providing some info to help facilitate the discussion fairly I do agree that they likely have very little to no interest in bringing back Garcia at that price and especially as a return piece for Snell. But I can see where the original trade idea is coming from, from a salary dump perspective, however, the Brewers aren't in position to take on the extra dead weight to facilitate that kind of trade and I don't think the Rays are interested in lowering the package they get for Snell just to drop some salary.

  23. Flyouts/groundouts, including those hit to fielders in the shift, are all balls in play... I suppose you could argue with more homeruns that it's more important to make outs when given the opportunity so there are fewer players on base to score, but I'm guessing the increase in strikeouts nullifies that take pretty easily.
  24. I like it if the Mets like it! And I see it matches up *very* well in the trade simulator as well My concern would be 1.) I don't know that anyone really wants Ray, and 2.) I feel like Lutz gets thrown into a lot of these trades because the trade simulator might be overvaluing him so it gets that matchup to look better. That said, maybe I'm just undervaluing Lutz and the Mets see something they like in Ray and it makes for a great swap!
  25. I'M JUST KIDDING!
