  1. TH reporting the Giants may be in the mix. I'm already emotionally prepared for the fact that CC will be pitching elsewhere next year, but it would be especially brutal if I had to watch him pitch against the Brewers on Opening Day here next Spring Heck, the fans here already think they're getting Prince and JJ for Matt Cain….
  2. I was just about to mention that, pitchleague--it really humanized it for me. I saw it in Florida about ten years ago and it was great--last saw it in Chicago around 2001 or so. I wonder how much new stuff they've added.
  3. Story. Glad to see Piniella get recognized for leading a defending division-winner with a 9 figure payroll back to the playoffs to get steamrolled. Again. Sveum got one vote, by the way.
  4. I like your thinking, but remember how Lyle Overbay was on that one FSN special modeling the new old-school Brewers' apparel one day and then was traded to Toronto the next? I'll choose to look at the JJ photo positively, though!
  5. A lot of the sheen has really seemed to come off Mike the last couple years. Best of luck to him, but this isn't the gut-punch it would've been to me a few years back. That said, I can't help be nervous about what's on deck.
  6. They're asking about FYE in that video...that was one of the stores looted last night, I believe
  7. This is the one that stuck with me. From the Philadelphia Daily News: Talk about adding injury to insult: I mean, why? The Series is over. Why? And man, what a terrible night for someone. Your team loses the World Series and then your vehicle gets absolutely destroyed by a pack of local ding-dongs. I'd seriously probably move (after I collect the insurance). Al's right: this would've been terrible had it been tomorrow night, or Saturday. Some of these pictures are joyous, most remind me of Bubba Helms. And no, not "every city celebrates this way."
  8. Old Bud getting absolutely excoriated in the press today...again. The guy was between a rock and a hard place and would've satisfied no one no matter what.
  9. It was a joke. I just think the concept of "deserving" it is kinda ridiculous to begin with. (And no one is attributing these actions to the entire Philly fanbase...but it sure seems to happen there with more frequency. As far as the Rays' attendance goes, we've been down this road before but I'm not sure why people were shocked and appalled that an area doesn't turn out for the worst first ten years of an expansion team ever, and were slow to come around when they finally became a winning team.)
  10. I don't agree with the whole "deserving" a World Series victory thing. Would you say the Cubs fanbase "deserves" to get there because most of their fanbase wasn't alive for the last one? Beyond that, Philly fans are really hard to get behind: http://www.sptimes.com/20...gles_fans_reach_the.shtml http://www.tampabay.com/s...ll/rays/article873330.ece Between these incidents and many others (battery-throwing, Mike Schmidt-alienating, etc), I'd argue that Rays fans deserve it more merely by generally not turning out in droves for a horrific product for ten years and not acting like animals
  11. Doug Williams!
  12. Well, to be fair, it was pretty exciting, relatively speaking. Although I did think Chip Caray's "Do you believe in miracles?" invocation was a bit of a farce: "Can the major-market nine-figure East Coast team come back at home against the mighty villainous Rays of St. Petersburg?!? Stay tuned!!!" Then again, I just hate Chip Caray. Wow, remember when people said the Red Sox were "cursed"? Well, here's hoping this is more like Game 5 of the 2005 NLCS (or Game 6 of the 1975 WS!) and less like Game 4 of the 2004 ALCS. The smug cloud emanating from the Northeast in a Philadelphia-Boston World Series might kill us all.
  13. Although I'd have preferred seeing the Dodgers make it, the Phillies won the NLCS in pretty impressive fashion and I've gotta give them credit. They buzzsawed a buzzsaw. I'm really happy for the Rays organization and the tiny band of die-hard fans though (provided they can close it out)...guys like Carl Crawford and Rocco Baldelli and Dick Vitale and even Vince Naimoli and Chuck LaMar. Like I've mentioned here before, I grew up down in Sarasota as a Brewers' fan prior to the Rays' existence and I've always closely followed them and attended many, many games when I moved back to St. Pete after college for a couple years. I do think it's pretty funny watching that bandwagon fill on up after ten years of rock-bottom failure--I guarantee you that, even after having not lived in Florida since 2000, I've attended more Rays' games than 50% of any playoff crowd they've had so far. I'm also happy for Gabe Gross and Grant Balfour (who went from despised "BallFour" here to being popular enough to be given his own warmup song--Midnight Oil's "King of the Mountain" and intro graphics at the Trop). Given the makeups and young talent of the two teams, this really should be an entertaining, tight World Series (if the Rays make it). Then again, I also thought the LA-Philadelphia series was going to be tight, too. Here's to Kevin Stocker's Revenge!
  14. I agree with AJAY right down the line In terms of former Brewers, I was actually happier for Matt Stairs
  15. Wow, how did you guys never notice "Bucco Bruce" winking at you before? That reminds me of how people tell me they never noticed the M and B in the old glove logo until just recently. Anyway, I'm a big Bucs fan and I've got a few old school Bucco Bruce pieces of clothing I like, but whenever someone suggests the Buccaneers themselves bring back the old creamsicle uniforms for a throw-bvack game, the fans are usually against it as there's some bad mojo surrounding those duds.
  16. I can confirm this is an "internet only" spot.
  17. Frustrating loss, both today and the series (I thought the Crew actually held their own against a superior opponent--mostly, of course). But a good season. Thanks Brew Crew.
  18. I agree. That was the big one, but add in the IBB to Howard and having CC pinch-hit in that situation and this was certainly not Sveum's finest hour. I was on-board with him before today, but these were huge, disastrous shows of bad judgment. Edit: Add in bringing in Mota when Parra was dealing.
  19. These guys gave us an entertaining and often exhilarating season and leave me with high hopes for next year, CC and/or Sheets here or not. Thanks, Brew Crew.
  20. Insult to injury is defined as watching the Brewers capitulate to the Phillies and then having to see Ryan Howard hawk crummy sandwiches during the commercial breaks
  21. This is how it ends; not with a bang but a whimper
  22. It's today's special: http://www.soupsgrill.com/
  23. See ya, Soup You've utterly failed this team and its fans in the specific situation you were given barrels of cash for.
  24. To be fair, some people at NSBB ridiculed it right away. But really: that first post wins entry to the Self-Pity Hall of Fame.
