Brewers (Patrick) vs White Sox (Burke): 5/1/25, 1:10pm
jay87shot replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Archived Game Threads
I was looking at some team stats and saw that Fielding Bible and Baseball-referance have Sal Frelick at -6 runs saved defensively. I really haven't noticed anything worrisome based on watching games, other than he missed a cutoff and was benched earlier in the week. It seems strange that he was a gold glover and at least metrically is tied for the 6th worst fielder in the league this year. -
His defense this year hasn't graded out well but he was a positive defender in the limited games he played the past couple years.

I am taking Perkins coming back and Mitchell will be back in a month or so (from what I understand). To get one of the Red Sox OF's Rafaeala, Abreu, Duran, Anthony it will cost a pretty penny value wise. I don't really count Yoshida as an OF becuase he hasn't played there for so long, however his value is less but again contracts make that to sticky. I don't disagree that for the next couple weeks we could use an OF but if we were to trade for say Wilyer Abreu it will cost at least a top 100 prospect and then we would be left with an extremely overcrowded OF when Perk and Mitchell are back. We have Yeli, Collins, Bauers, and Cameron to cover LF which should be passable for now.

It's only a matter of time before he is in the bigs. 4) Pena He just rakes, the power potential and a half year older than Made leaves him a touch behind in prospect stature. However I feel pretty good saying he is going to hit .300+ with 60+ sb between a couple levels this year, oh yeah 4 k's to 7 bb. 5) Payne Already showing some power and discipline 13 bb in 14 games. Another potential .300 60+ sb 18 year old. 6) Quero Not playing yet hurts him some, just waiting anxiously. Probably my last guy I would have in a national top 100. 7) Bitonti No HR's isn't to much of a worry because of the 2B's. The higher K's is manageable with the amount of walks. 8) Henderson As demonstrated on Sunday, the upside is real. If he can get even a decent 3rd pitch their is top of the rotation potential. 9)Boeve Like Quero hurt some just by missing the start of the year. 10)Adamchecski My biggest jumper, the dude can hit. If he has another month like he had to start the year he will be in the Pena, Payne, Bitonti region. 11) Letson Really solid start to the year, if he adds 1 mph per year there is a really good chance to be a top of the rotation arm in a couple years. 12) Yoho I find it hard to decide who will be the long term closer between Uribe and Yoho. I think Yoho has the better mindset at this point. 13)Meccage It sounds like the stuff has been as advertised. Decent start to the year. 14)CarRod The hot start to the year restores some faith that there is solid #3 potential instead of just a 4/5 arm. 15) Gasser It's hard to place a guy who hasn't pitched in a year. 16) Adams Still getting on base but he is going to need to hit to meet some potential 17) Jadher The defense and hit tool with good speed make him at least a high potential utility guy. He has the upside if the funky swing doesn't hinder him as he moves up the ladder. 18) Black At some point the injuries and lack of positional home are starting to hurt his prospect status. 19)EMJ The tools are just to loud even if he is a bit old as a prospect. 20) Patrick It has only been 20+ big league innings but those have been indispensable to the Brewers withering the pitching injuries. 21) Durbin 22)Manny Rodriguez 23) Lara 24)Knoth 25) Burke 26) Hunt 27)Dinges 28) Wilken 29) Baez 30)Jose Anderson 31)Di Turri 32) Cornielle 33) Juan Ortuno 34) Bjorn Johnson 35)Hardin 36) Holobetz 37) Fenelon 38)Antunez 39) Acosta 40) Kuehner 41) Travis Smith 42) Demetrio Nadal 43) Dylan O'Rae 44) Tayden Hall 45)Yerlin 46)Birchard 47)Quintana 48)Hayden Robinson 49)Wande Torres 50)Wanderlyn King I am sure I forgot someone obvious or important.

With Roman Anthony and Marcelo Mayer close to call ups and Yoshida coming off the IL it is clear the Red Sox have some extra bats. We've discussed Triston Casas a bunch in the offseason, we don't really need an OF'er even with Mitchell out. My thought was maybe Trevor Story or at least a David Hamilton reunion, David Hamilton hasn't been good in a small sample this year however. Story has 2 years remaining after this year on his big contract and that would be a gigantic barrier but putting him at SS would help 2 positions (SS, 3B). I don't think that a Story deal will ever work out unless the Sox eat a majority of that deal. I would love Cases but with Hoskins playing well don't see a deal being obvious because I doubt the Sox would want Hoskins back. Story and Cases for Hoskins, a reliever, a prospect or 2 is really clunky. Maybe it would need a 3 team angle. We get Story the SF gets Rhys and Boston gets Jordan Hicks (move to bullpen) Red Sox eat like 1/2 of Story's remaining contract. EMJ play 1st for us, not a fan of either

I was going to say 18-10 as well. Yeli and Contreras get hot and the bullpen comes together as Myers gets back into form and Woody gets back to form. My biggest hope is that Joey Ortiz gets right.

2025 Minor League Transaction Thread
jay87shot replied to Jim Goulart's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
That would seem to be a very talented Rookie ball team, is May 3rd the 1st game for them? There looks to be plenty of talent that could move to Carolina in a month or two. -
I think I would go after Russell Westbrook, I am not a huge fan of his and in a half court set he won't help spread the floor but from a talent and upside perspective he is probably the best we can do. If Brook would take a discount I would bring him back or Bobby but I wouldn't pay him much more than what he made this year. 1) Russ 1/10 2)Precious Achiuwa 2/18 3)Jake LaRavia 2/14 4)Talen Horton-Tucker 1/4 Buy a 2nd 2nd round pick draft SF Matthew Cleveland and PG Mark Sears 1)Russ/Rollins/Sears 2)AJ Green/AJax 3)Kuzma/THT/Cleveland 4)Giannis/LaRavia/Tyler Smith 5)Achiuwa/Giannis That is rough at best
-
I agree Doc stinks, he has like 40 years nba experience and like 8 assistant coaches and you don't have a decent last shot play to run. I know the media is all for trying to convince Giannis to leave and hopefully he doesn't listen. However I wouldn't blame him this team is so poorly put together at this point there is nothing for next year. Once Bobby and Porter decline their player options (Pat C will pick his up) our lineup team is Giannis, Kuz, Green, Rollins, AJax, Pat C, and Tyler Smith with only 30-35 million in cap space and a 7 million trade exception and basically no picks for 5 years to trade. Yikes.

Has Dinges defense been showing improvement? It would seem like his bat is definitely ready for a promotion and I now with him not catching much they probably won't promote him until defensively he makes some gains. I know he struggled some early but on scout from a podcast someone posted said his defense looked good last week. Made has to be entering top 20 prospect status already, again defensively it might take him a bit longer than the bat.

Jordan Westburg just went on the IL and the O's brought up Emmanuel Rivera over Mayo. That has to be a kick in the pants for Mayo, maybe also a note on where Baltimore thinks he is at. Maybe we could trade a couple nice smaller pieces for Mayo if the O's still aren't willing to give him a shot. Would Logan Henderson and Luke Adams be close?
-
Basallo would be nice but the O's aren't going to want Quero with Adley still blocking him. The only path is pitching, my guess is that if the O's trade Basallo or Mayo it will be for a big starter like Sandy Alcantara. For us to get one, it would have to be Freddy Peralta and I can't see that happening unless something bad happens.
-
Is this Nick Maton? I would rather just give Mone another shot over Maton, I just saw Owen Miller called up to the Rockies, he would be a guy that could be a cheap upgrade that I could get behind for like a month. Abraham Toro for cheap and a band aid add would be an ok recycle in my opinion as well (again for like a month or so).

Misi with a changeup is straight up tantalizing, I don't want to say it but if he can control the ball like he has the past two starts there is some Paul Skenes type stuff if he has legitimately found a changeup and control. I really think we are 1 more start like this away from him forcing his way into the big league rotation. My only concern is that they only let him throw 67 pitches, I feel like he was at more earlier in the year. Maybe just trying to save his arm for the long season? It is nice to see Blake Burke hitting the ball, hopefully the power starts to kick in as it gets warmer in Appleton, I had some hopes that he could move quick this year so at some point next year he could possibly be ready for the bigs.

Sun. 4/27 - Impressive Slate of Starters Listed
jay87shot replied to Jim Goulart's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
Both have been really good and don't get the big prospect love. At 19 both of them probably have a shot to play in Appleton by the end of the year if there is space with all the other guys. -
Can anyone find a Melvin Hernandez scouting report? All I can find is that he is 5'11 139 pounds (probably old).

I have to say I am not a huge fan of our haul overall. I don't dislike any of the players but we really didn't add much help for this year. I get we like to take guys in later rounds to fill holes for future years but I don't see tons of obvious upgrades. Here is my pick by pick analysis. 1) Golden A-, The value and upside is great. I would have preferred a more posseion based receiver but had Golden ranked 12th overall. If Lafluer can find a way to utilize the speed of Golden and Reed without overlapping talents the speed is extremely valuable. 2) Belton B/C, My issue here is that I don't think he can play guard. If he has more versatility than I think, I will give this a B, if not C. I don't like that he is 24 and probably won't play much this year. I guess if we drafted a younger guy who will have a bit more upside that would have made more sense. I do like that this, with Banks, looks like a nod to a path for a sustained power running game. 3) Savion Williams C+, I liked Williams as a sleeper but the 3rd is a touch high. If Watson is out most of the year and maybe we trade Doubs I like this pick a bunch. If we keep Doubs and Watson only misses a few games we drafted him as a 6/7/8 (Hardman/Heath) in the 3rd. His size and athletism should allow him inside or outside eventually in my opinion, maybe not right away but he has a year or two to develop. 4) Barryn Sorrell B Sorrell is another player I like but the depth chart makes me wonder how much he will play. If he can beat out Kingsley this is a great pick, but Mosby and Cox could have something to say. 5)Collin Oliver B+. I am guessing he will be used as an off ball LB instead of a edge rusher. It's hard to dislike someone who had 11.5 sacks as a freshman in a power 5 school. As a 5th rounder I am fine with the value compared to the upside and not needing him much to play this year. 6/7/7)Brinson, Robinson, Williams. B- None of these guys were really on my radar but I can see the upside and won't complain about any of them. Overall= C. I really would have liked to see a TJ Slaton replacement at some point and not getting a CB earlier is a mistake. Even if Jaire is back it would have been a good idea to get another corner. I think the biggest disappointment is that after Golden I don't see anyone helping much this year.
-
Sounds like Mitchell will likely be put on the IL with an oblique strain and Daz Cameron will take his spot.
-
Carlos Rodriguez stuff in that clip looked really good, up to 95 with crisp breaking pitches and a deceptive changeup. I would think Woody needs 1 more rehab if he didn't maintain velocity but the results are good so if he was to get to the bigs with his next appearance I wouldn't be upset.

I'd rather give him a shot than Capra at this point. I will say I doubt he is anything, decent year last year in AA at 24 but he struck out alot and with skipping a level I doubt that gets better in the bigs.

Brewers (Peralta) vs Giants (Webb): 4/23/25, 8:45pm
jay87shot replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Archived Game Threads
Pretty sure he has been throwing bullpens, they are taking it extra extra slow. It is also though because you can't send him to the minors for a rehab anything. -
Is Daz Cameron starting to work his way towards a promotion and some DH AB's. We could easily cut bait with Capra (or Collins) and give Daz a few ab's here or there. I get that leaves us dreadfully thin on the IF. I think my top 10 team prospect is currently 1)Made 2)Pratt 3)Misi 4) Pena 5) Payne 6)Quero 7)Bitonti 8)Henderson 9)Boeve 10)Adamchezski or Letson So yeah most of the top 10 is in Carolina.

Brewers (Quintana) vs Giants (Hicks): 4/22/25, 8:45pm
jay87shot replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Archived Game Threads
Wow, when it is going good this offense is crazy good and that is with Capra starting tonight. -
What about a deal with the Dodgers? They could use OF help and Alex Freeland looks good and blocked. Mitchell for Freeland? Frelick for Freeland and Pagas/Bobby Miller? Perkins and Boeve for Freeland? Ortiz can go back to 3B and Pratt or Freeland could transition to 3B when Pratt is ready.
