  1. I even disagree with those that think Yelich is good at getting on base. First 3 months he was at .403. Since that time .333.
  2. Time for Smith to let the first couple guys on just to toy with us before retiring the next 3 in order.
  3. Now would be the time for that eleventy jazillion thing.
  4. A good, not great outing. I suspect pretty much every start in the post season is going to have to be of the great variety if we expect to win.
  5. I think wins count less today in the Cy Young race than balks per pitches thrown. Only slight exaggeration. I don't think wins matter one iota and I think that's wrong personally. And no I'm not saying in any way that it should be the driving metric in who wins the Cy.
  6. Probably an overreaction, but I'm having trouble being optimistic right now. Another loss tomorrow and that will be 6 wins in 25 days by my count before the playoffs start. 3 against a team that was losing 11 of 12 at the time, 2 against a team that were losing 14 of 16 and one against a team that sat nearly everyone after clinching a playoff berth.
  7. I know it's a not a plan I would have adhered to. I would agree with giving Woodruff and Peralta a couple of innings, 30 pitches something like that. It does set Counsell up for a lot of heat if it doesn't work out.
  8. I personally don't care for punting games in baseball anymore than I do in football when things are clinched going into the last week. However, they still are going to be off for a number of days before the playoffs begin so they'll be kind of rusty regardless of how they are playing out the string.
  9. Scherzer could still win the ERA title too if he pitched against the Giants for the division title.
  10. Except Buehler will blow past him with 7 scoreless tomorrow in an easy win.
  11. This should be Anderson's last appearance as a Brewer. Ever.
  12. What's the over/under on plate appearances before Keston strikes out? 1.5? I just have zero faith in him period now and for the future.
  13. Source? I too would like to see a source backing that up, as I am also skeptical of that claim. The Packers as one of the few publicly-available financial disclosing sports franchises have consistently noted that their absurd level of merchandise sales is one of the major contributors to their operating income each year. Granted, the Brewers aren't the Packers when it comes to fanbase overall, but I have a hard time believing that merchandizing accounts for 'so little' of their revenue. I've had access to several teams financial information. Obviously it's confidential so I can't divulge any detailed information. However, outside of in-park merchandise sales, all jersey sales, etc. just get shared equally by all teams. In-park merchandising doesn't even come close to 1% of a team's revenues in general.
  14. Teams generate so little of their revenue from sponsorships or merchandise sales that it would be foolish to dole out a massive contract based on the little uptick in revenues it would produce. Said player would have to bring in a significant number of fans to every game in order for it to be justified on a purely economic basis. I think we'd all agree that winning is going to drive attendance and I'll admit I'd have no idea how many people would go to a game just because Yelich or Braun or whoever is in a Brewers uniform versus not going if they weren't.
  15. Not sure if Curtiss was hurt or not when we got him but I will assume he wasn't. I know his numbers looked awfully good the last couple of years but he just didn't impress me from his first appearance on. Seemed like he had a fairly ordinary fastball with a propensity to hang his off speed pitches.
  16. I don't relieve believe in the face of the franchise stuff. Attendance isn't going to drop off because Yelich walks as a free agent assuming you continue to win. Winning trumps all. With his personality, you could argue Adames has already replaced Yelich or is well on his way to doing so. I certainly look forward to seeing Adames play and couldn't care less at this point in time about Yelich.
  17. I'm not sure the Brewers should ever be locking up hitters well into free agency like they did for Braun or Yelich. Basically every such deal turns out to be a terrible idea. Now if you can get them young enough, I think that's when a team like the Brewers almost has to do it. As they did with the first extension for Braun back in 2008. Buying out arbitration periods and early free agent years I'd generally be supported of. I do think you need to see at least one compete season before doing so however. Thinking Hiura here. Therefore, I think Adames would clearly be somebody I'd hope they can extend. I would also like them try to do something with Woodruff over Burnes. Both would be great but I'd trust Woodruff a little more. Ideally it would have happened already, at least as it pertains to Woodruff. I would also seriously consider something for Urias. I would not entertain any long-term contract for Hader.
  18. He didn't even have the confidence to unload it on the throw to first. Not a guy that belongs in the majors.
  19. Bellinger has been awful but his was self-inflicted. He decided to change his swing/approach after winning the MVP because he didn't like the way he finished the year. I thought that seemed like a pretty dumb decision the instant I heard it and it certainly seems to be the case the past couple of years. He does at least have a current 7-game hitting streak with a couple of homers so maybe he's coming around.
