  1. Crazy to think McCutchen was a Top 5 MVP finisher for four straight years and then had a Christian Yelich style implosion at 29. Between that and getting nothing useful for Gerritt Cole was not a good start to getting back on track. [sarcasm]I also loved the foresight of Counsell to know that we could afford to get swept in that 5-game series right before the all-star break in 2018 and still win the division[/sarcasm]. That gave the Pirates a glimmer of hope that resulted in them trading Glasnow and Meadows for Chris Archer. And Shane Baz who should be up sooner than later. Meadows and Baz alone would have been more than enough for Archer.
  2. I would estimate Adames to get somewhere between $3.5 and $4.0 million the first year (probably closer to $4), roughly double that year 2 and then another near doubling in the third year. Trea Turner isn't a bad comparable and he got just over $24 million in his first 3 years although he was a Super 2 I believe. Of course if Adames keeps this going for the rest of the year, he'd be pushing a 5 WAR season and he could push that first year to the $4.5 to $5.0 million range.
  3. a 1.5 year rental...lol Ashby could very well be in our rotation next year, for the next decade. I don't want to trade him or Small for a guy that we have for 1.5 years. What would you give up for Rogers, and if you were the Twins would you take that? I'd be very surprised if the Twins couldn't get a top-100 prospect for Rogers or very close to top-100 with one or two other significant pieces. As others have statistically pointed out, he's only a step below Hader. I'd also be very surprised if Ashby's control and command improve enough to warrant a significant role on the Brewers next year. It would have to be a Burnes-like improvement. Not sure what I think of Rogers. He has great control but is actually pretty hittable. Batters have hit .267 against him last two years versus .239 for all relievers. His ERA is only 3.70 last couple of years combined. The Twins don't exactly trust him in the closers position and have never let him run with the job either. I'm not even 100% convinced they would tender him a contract so I think they have to trade him now. I would be very surprised if they could get a top 100 prospect myself. But a prospect like Ashby might be a reasonable offer. Ashby's control has been poor since 2019 and I wouldn't count on him in the near future either. However, I'd rather hold onto him due to his electric arm and would rather deal somebody like Zamora.
  4. Yes Fangraphs. You can do it on Baseball Reference too. That's how I did it. Just highlight the particular dates on the game logs in a certain manner and the stats are calculated.
  5. .266/.340/.480 over 197 plate appearances. 9 doubles and 9 homers over that period.
  6. Feels like he’s given up runs in just about every one his appearances lately. Hadn't given up a run this month but sure.
  7. Then why bother?? If they don't move the needle it's not worth it. You have plenty of those guys that are coming back...Cain, Shaw etc. By getting a big bat you accomplish two things...A. Improve your lineup immensely B. You essentially "cover" for Yelich's struggle's this year...in other words, the bat you acquire is the good version of Yelich. This is why I've always been a proponent of signing big bats in FA even to 1 year deals..you "cover up" struggling hitters that may be slumping, so it's like you don't miss a beat. But when you sign the type of guys DS does every off season, what does anyone expect?? When you shop at Walmart you get Walmart quality. What big hitters are signing one year deals. Does happen on occasion. Semien as mentioned, Grandall, Donaldson, Gregorius, Moose, Schwarber. The top guys don't but sometimes the next tier do.
  8. Anything other than the game. I just sacrificed about 15 minutes rewatching THE PLAY at 1B. There is one view from high above the plate. They (Bally) only showed it one time. They ran other angles several times. By that one angle, it looks like the runner’s left hand could have been briefly on the base when the tag was first applied. When the left hand leaves the base, the right hand was on the base through the tag. Based on that one angle, I would have had a difficult time overturning the play, as well. The other angles aren’t very conclusive about where the left hand is. I thought the same thing but didn't want to trigger a firestorm by saying so. I think he was likely out but couldn't say 100% he was. Not too dissimilar to the Adames play from the last series. I would have said he was out but again, not with 100% certainty. Of course that didn't stop MLB from overturning that one.
  9. No reason to walk a hitter that can't drive the ball. Agreed, but for some reason it was still happening for the better part of a month.
  10. Even the walks are starting to dry up for Yelich lately, as they should be. Whopping .390 OPS last 10 games.
  11. Stretching for the throw is one thing but you have to be able to catch it. Wong can't get that error.
  12. Looking at home-road splits, since the Rays were created, all teams have hit .264 at home and .256 on the road. That differential has been pretty consistent all-time in baseball. From the 2001-2009 period, the Rays themselves hit .267 at home and .257 on the road. So everything looks pretty normal. Beginning with the 2010 season, the Rays must have changed something at the Trop. Since that time, the Rays have hit .243 at home and .251 on the road. That's a pretty dramatic flip. Not sure if they did it intentionally or not, but for sure something must have changed.
  13. Kind of normal, no? One is more apt to give a bad review then a good one.
  14. He's down to .210 since coming off the IL. Soon pitchers have to begin to challenge him and stop being so afraid to face him. It could get even more depressing.
  15. Wong is doing just fine at leadoff. I’m not questioning Wong. I’m trying to think of ways to better utilize Yelich. If he can get on base and then you have Wong, Urias, Adames coming up, it may be better than Yelich batting second. I also thought batting Yelich leadoff and Wong 2nd wouldn't be a bad idea. It probably also makes sense dropping him way down the order too but if he's in a bad mental place now, that probably won't help him any. That's why leadoff actually might make sense. He certainly isn't a run producer at this point with his .210 average since coming off the IL for the second time.
  16. I definitely don't take the 2019 homer rates as real so I would not have expected 20 homers out of Urias. Certainly don't want to see Shaw come back and take his job this year or ever.

  18. They've been bad for about four years now. I must've missed the news about the strike zone being expanded three inches off both sides of the plate. No, they've been bad for a long time. The current technology just makes it appear so much worse. Remember Eric Gregg?
  19. Works for Adames. I would agree that Keston should drop it as it does not work for him, at this point anyway.
