  1. If we could send JBJ to Nashville I'd be all for that. Hiura's secondary stats area abysmal. He's near the bottom or is the worst hitter in MLB at contact on pitches in the strike zone. He isn't juast unlucky he is bad. Needs to get his K% down. All fair, it just feels like people focus in on him in particular like he is Yuniesky Betancourt somehow sent back in time and playing on the 1927 Yankees. If/when Hiura gets sent down, the presumptive replacement as the everyday 1B was hitting .173/.259/.308/.567 coming into today's game. I've been asking for McKinney to be the 1B since almost the start of the season. That's because I'd be all too glad to see Vogelbach sent packing too as he's just about as worthless as Hiura.
  2. For me it's totally about his performance. I have no delusions that he should be so much better. Just because he was a high draft pick and had a nice start to his career both don't mean that much. He has been a very poor hitter for the past 90 games now and is one of, if not the worst, zone contact player in the majors. Add in that he isn't very good defensively and is now pretty much locked into 1b/dh role, he has to produce offensively to justify his presence on a major league roster.
  3. I do think at this time, nobody can fix Hiura except possibly for Hiura. He has to be willing to do a major makeover as his holes are massive.
  4. Jedd Gyorko ! After today, Jacob Nottingham. I mean, at this point, why not? I can't argue with that at least once Pina is back.
  5. If Hiura isn't sent down by May 4, I may have to boycott watching any game he starts.
  6. Just coming back to this game and see that the first two pitchers went 7.2 without striking out a single batter. How is that possible in today's game? I trust Zimmermann retires for the last time after today. Bettinger will have to do an awful lot in the minors before I'd want to see him again.
  7. Has anyone given up 9 runs in a debut? 7? Has to be the first to even give up 2 in a game for a debut. Allan Travers gave up 24 runs in his one and only game. That was a game where the rest of the Tigers boycotted the game after Ty Cobb had been suspended and they fielded a bunch of semi-pros.
  8. Nottingham can play 1B. It's a sorry state, but that's the norm for our 1B situation. Something has to be done. I didn't have any faith in Hiura when the season started and obviously he has done nothing to get me to change my mind. I just wish, as did many others, we had signed Cron and didn't bother to bring Vogelbach back. Maybe Cron wouldn't have signed figuring he'd be the backup but seemingly his options were pretty limited so maybe it wouldn't have been an issue.
  9. Ranked Milwaukee Brewers #21 prospect in 2021 TRACK RECORD: Bettinger split between starting and relieving at Virginia before pitching exclusively out of the bullpen as a senior. The Brewers drafted him in the 10th round, signed him for $10,000 and developed him as a starter. Bettinger ranked second in the Double-A Southern League in strikeouts in 2019 and spent 2020 at the alternate training site. The Brewers added him to their 40-man roster after the season. SCOUTING REPORT: Bettinger doesn't have a plus pitch, but he throws strikes, is durable and has a feel for pitching that has yielded better results than his stuff would suggest. There's some funk and deception in his release, which gives him a little more margin with a fastball that sits 89-93 mph with occasional cutting action and can scrape 94-95 mph. The pitch has good vertical movement, helping him miss bats when he elevates. Bettinger's best secondary pitch is his changeup, which is a solid-average pitch with good sink and fade when it's on. He mixes in a curveball that has been effective against minor leaguers, though it's typically a fringy pitch which might not get major league hitters to bite. THE FUTURE: Bettinger faces questions about whether his stuff will work against major league hitters. He should open 2021 in Triple-A and is in position to make his debut if he pitches well.
  10. I'd like to see McKinney take over as the regular 1B against righties once Cain and Yelich are back with Hiura being optioned. But I have no idea who can play there when facing a lefty.
  11. I get that this lineup is more like a spring training split squad one, but I don't understand why Hiura would bat cleanup. He has never in his career hit lefties well. A .357 slugging percentage and .671 OPS. They act like he is better against lefties and he certainly isn't. At least I get to hear Bill say how when he's going right that's a pitch he can handle when he swings through yet another meatball down the middle of the plate.
  12. What's more impressive, the Brewers 17-10 record with 16 guys on the IL or being 17-10 with Keston Hiura on the roster?
  13. I really don't think I'll be able to handle Lauer tomorrow after watching today's fiasco.
  14. How can you even interfere with the runner when said runner wasn't running in his lane in the first place?
  15. I would agree, that may not only be one of the worst calls I've ever seen, it just might be number one.
