  1. Me with the two most important people in the world (albeit from a few years ago) at Miller Park, our home away from home. My son, the now 17-year old high school junior, is the same 3-year old that inspired the screen name on a Brewer trip to Pittsburgh as he called out for the Brewer rookie pitcher by repeated yelling "Hey Ben Sheeps". Sheets responded with a "baaa" (Still one of my best Brewer memories)
  2. My 20 game pack in the Club level is the same at Blunt36 - $660 per seat.
  3. I thought about the same. Only due $5.5 million this year (salary does bump up to $9 and $11 million over the next two). Maybe get greedy and see if Gallardo or Lohse could fetch both Craig and Cecchini?
  4. As someone that has wanted a move for LH 3B Garin Cecchini from the Red Sox, would Braves prospect Kyle Kubitza be a possibility? http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=kubitz000kyl
  5. LOVE the Cecchini idea! Young LH 3B is exactly what we should be looking for. Someone like Garin was in my plans for this thread so not sure if I'll steal your idea or keep looking for a similar player of my own.
  6. I'm still holding out hope that Carp will be moved/released after the BoSox see all the moving pieces they now have acquired.
  7. I have thought adding Mike Carp was a good idea all the way back to last December. (To the point that my son was disappointed to hear him ask for a trade so that "dad would bring it up again") My hope now is that Carp is included with a bigger deal between the teams with a bullpen piece or Lester included.
  8. Mike Carp has requested a trade. I know he has struggled this year, but would have loved to see his power potential pinch hit last night in the 9th rather than Schafer. Got to believe it would take very little to get Carp from the BoSox. See someone on sonsofsamhorn.net suggests Carp & Badenhop for Mitch Haniger. Would prefer to see what it would take for Carp & Uehara.
  9. Not sure how this makes sense. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/07/red-sox-discussing-jake-peavy-trade-with-nl-team.html#disqus_thread Red Sox Discussing Jake Peavy Trade With NL Team By Charlie Wilmoth [July 26, 2014 at 9:33am CDT] The Red Sox are close to trading starting pitcher Jake Peavy to an unknown National League team, Jen Royle of the Boston Herald tweets. (She notes, however, that “[l]ots of things need to happens before this gets done.”) That NL team is not the Cardinals, who have lately been connected to Peavy. The Braves have also reportedly been involved in Peavy trade talks, and Royle guesses that the Giants or Brewers could also be possibilities. Peavy has a 4.72 ERA with 7.3 K/9 and 3.3 BB/9 in 124 innings this season. He is making $14.5MM this season before heading to free agency this winter.
  10. With the job that Duke (and of course Smith) have done this year, is Gorzelanny a realistic trade chip?
  11. I'll echo Invader's comment of a great summary, the question now becomes what can be done? Overbay - I still wonder whether the organization believes Morris will ever be an option. If so, I'm surprised he hasn't been included in discussion for the last year+ as we've had the first base issues. Morris also continues to hamstring the bench as he only plays first. Herrera/Bianchi - I lump these two together because I think one stays and one has to go. Having both multi-position, light-hitting guys on the same roster is too much. Schafer - Is Jeremy Hermida any better of an option? He would have to be added to the 40-man. Boston seems to want a CF to help ease Jackie Bradley Jr. into being a full-time major league contributor. While they would prefer a right-handed hitter, would Schafer bring back Nava or Carp to platoon at 1st and be an occasional option in left vs. tough RHP? 1. Cut Overbay. 2. Trade Schafer for Carp or Nava 3. Bring up Jeremy Hermida 4. When Ramirez returns, send down Herrera Bench = Carp/Nava, Weeks, Hermida, Maldonado, Bianchi
  12. Assuming Gindl thrown right in to the lineup. Right?
  13. I know it's pointless now, but I am clinging to the hope of a late Spring trade and an Overbay DFA before the beginning of the season. I am doing the same. I'm not afraid to admit that as soon as I saw the twitter report of Francisco cleaning out has locker, I immediately checked to see if Mike Carp was doing the same in the Red Sox locker room. The realist in me has started to accept that as a longshot. This morning I moved by Overbay bobblehead from the shelf of "past Brewers" to the shelf of "current Brewers". My 16-year-old son laughed at me.
  14. My wife and I have tried to move some responsibilities around, but unfortunately we will be unable to make it tonight. Hope everyone has a great time.
  15. briggs I have been saying this exact thing since before Overbay and Reynolds were signed. With Sizemore continuing to play well for the RedSox, I've got to imagine that Carp becomes more and more available for the right deal. What is a fair exchange for Carp?
  16. My wife and I will be making our 17th straight opening day. (Will have the 16-year-old and 8-year-old with us)
  17. Record: 88-74 All Stars: Gomez, Braun (won't be voted by fans, manager can't keep him off after great first half), Lohse Biggest Surprise: New lefties in pen (Wang & Smith) are vital part of success Biggest Disappointment: Reynolds, Segura (not as bad as 2013 2nd half but not as good as 2013 1st half) Playoffs: 2nd Wild-Card Place in Division: 2nd behind Cardinals
  18. Sign me up for the trade this blogger suggests. http://bosoxinjection.com/2014/03/05/a-mike-carp-for-scooter-gennett-swap-would-make-sense/ Yes, I know the Red Sox would never go for it, but I can dream of the day that Overbay and Francisco are not the big side of a platoon and Reynolds gets only minimal starts.
  19. I get the idea of looking for a team with too many options at 1st base, but I think the team to look at is Boston. Nava and Gomes (and possibly Sizemore) ahead of Mike Carp in left field. Papi will fill the DH role. Napoli and Nava are listed ahead of Carp on the depth chart at 1st base with Lavarnway learning the position and Papi an option in National League parks to keep his bat in the lineup. Comparing Carp to some of the other frequently mentioned trade candidates: Mike Carp $1.4 salary for 2014, .904 OPS vs. RHP in 2013 Justin Smoak $2.79 salary for 2014, .839 OPS vs. RHP in 2013 Mitch Moreland $2.65 salary for 2014, .752 OPS vs. RHP in 2013 Ike Davis $3.5 salary for 2014, .727 OPS vs. RHP in 2013 All four guys are within 15 months of each other in age. All are free agents in 2017. I know Carp had a career year last year and may not be as good this year. He has also come out and said he wants to stay in Boston even if it means a reduced role. Wonder if the Red Sox feel the same way or if they feel it would be better to get something useful for him.
  20. With K-Rod now in the fold... Schafer & 1 bullpen arm (Gorzelanny, Hand, Blazek, etc.) to Boston for Mike Carp. (maybe I should have said someone besides Hand as he is designated for assingment) Carp/Reynolds platoon at 1st with Carp also able to play left and Reynolds the back-up at 3rd. Schafer gives Red Sox an option if Jackie Bradley struggles and/or Sizemore can't stay healthy. Would love to see Gorzelanny go as it saves the most money and allows younger Smith and Wang to work as lefties out of the pen.
  21. Before hearing the news today of Gorzelanny still not throwing, I wondered if we could trade from a position of "strength" (guess I should say duplicates more than strengths). Between Smith, Wang, Gorzelanny and even Duke on a minor league contract, it seems we should have enough "lefty in the bullpen" material. Don't know what we could expect back for Gorzellany, but would save a couple million on his contract if we could fine someone to take him.
  22. Agreed completely. Still not sure if Ike Davis is the answer but figure he (or Carp or Smoak or Moreland) is more an answer than Overbay or Francisco.
  23. Grady Sizemore signs with the RedSox tonight. This may make Mike Carp more available. Doug get on the phone and see what it would cost. Carp could play first and be a fall-back if Davis struggles in left field. I'll admit I haven't been excited about the Reynolds signing as an "all or nothing" right-handed batter seems to be a poor fit in the Brewers lineup. Overbay brings a left-handed option that seems a little better fit, but is still far from ideal. If the Brewer f.o. has doubts about Morris, why not try to get a batter that had a good season last year and is still under control for a couple more years?
