  1. I think Cousins could have slide around him, but if Posey had been 2-3 inches further towards the plate, he has no angle. As a player, running full speed and having to make the decision to hit him or slide around him based on a 2-3 inch window is asking a lot. He COULD have tried to slide around the backside of him, or he COULD have felt he either couldn't get there, had the wrong angle or whatever and went with his second option, lowering the shoulder and going for the front of the plate (which he's also entitled to do, and Posey WAS covering that area of the plate). Contact could have been avoided I think, but I see nothing wrong with this play at all.
  2. He was in the lineup that day, yes. But prior to that, he had to go 9-18 just to get on the field. We had Morgan, healthy, in April for awhile and he still started Kotsay over him in RF several times. Just leads me to believe that RR would rather see Gomez or Kotsay in the lineup as opposed to Morgan. Just my theory. We'll see I guess. Morgan playing a lot means Kotsay becomes the 5th outfielder and based on the fact that he already has almost 100 AB, I'm just not seeing that happen.
  3. We really missed the ball on this one in my opinion. Our bench is the worst in baseball, there's no way he wouldnt have improved it. Even if he hit .230 (like everyone else on our bench or lower), he still had the threat to hit a bomb on any pitch.
  4. This might be a tad harsh, but I do tend to agree with you on this situation. We've had Boggs up here and he's barely played. He has shown some power, quickness and ok range in CF. With Gomez sucking and Hart needing a day off here or there, we had a chance to see if he could really do something or not. Granted, small sample size, but it would have been something. Instead we started Kotsay and gave him way too many at bats. Just to prove what everyone thought for the last three years - that he's no longer any good.
  5. The reason being that RR saw some good signs from Gomez in spring training. And that Morgan for whatever reason, is in his doghouse and behind Kotsay probably as well.
  6. I still say that with players of that caliber - Posey and Mauer, that they shouldn't be at catcher in the first place. It's just too much of a grind and too many ways to get hurt. But that's neither here nor there. The Reds/Phillies game was very interesting last night, both teams had numerous chances. Phillips got picked off of second base in the 9th inning with no outs and a 3-1 count on the hitter (with a man at first). Glad the Phillies finally got the win though, puts us in second all by ourselves. Reds have lost something like 7 of 8 too. And they both have to play less than 12 hours later. Go Phillies I guess.
  7. I just don't see Counsell retiring mid-season. Granted, he's been bad and appears to be at the end of the road, but it just seems like he's a guy that won't quit on his team. Plus, he can still be useful. He still plays decent defense at three different spots on the infield. If Counsell did go, I'd much rather give Maysonet or Farris a shot over Josh Wilson. He's actually a significant step DOWN from Betancourt on both offense and defense.
  8. If we're trading for guys like Blake, Williams or Jefferson, we might as well just pass. I really don't want anything to do with any of them. I'd pass on Chris Paul as well, he's a diva and there is no chance he would stay here more than one season. The Charlotte trade would be interesting I guess.
  9. Did Felipe actually get picked up by anyone? He has to be better than Josh Wilson. He certainly is on offense and probably on defense too. Maybe he really is just too big of a jag....
  10. Any chance either of them join the big league club right away? Or both stay down in AAA? It appears this might kill any chance of a Branyan signing. Fields will need a spot on the 40 man roster right? Please do the right thing and dump Nieves. Please!!!
  11. Is it Fields and Wilson? It appears to be both. Fields was raking it appears in AAA, but not much from an MLB standpoint. Not sure what positions he can play, if any outside of 3b.
  12. Everything is great right now. The key will be what happens when we leave home. Can we consistently score runs on the road? And can we finally win a game over the Reds? If they can improve on the road, we could really be dangerous. Now just get the Cardinals to stop winning games while scoring very few runs, and we'll be set.
  13. If we brought him up to have his bat...how come he never gets to hit? He has started one game and had I believe only 2 PH at bats? What's the point?
  14. I guess Saito is already over halfway to 60 days as it is, so this isn't that big of a move for his standpoint. Just need to make room for him when he's ready, if that ever happens. Wilson isn't very good, but if Betancourt were to go down, at least we'd have something. That depth is UGLY.
  15. Once again, another stellar inning from our 6-7-8 hitters. I assume this means Greinke goes back out for the 7th.
  16. I don't know why teams even pitch to Fielder at this point. Casey has been pretty bad in the 5 hole, nothing more than average (at best). And after Casey, it's usually Betancourt or Kotsay or both. There's just no point in pitching to Prince if you don't absolutely have to. Good inning for Greinke there, 91 pitches....he's due up 4th this inning. Think we leave him in?
  17. Not only did he swing 3-0, that wasn't a pitch right down the middle. It was probably a strike, but a good pitch and one you should let go by on 3-0. Didn't even hit it hard somewhere. Granted, with Kotsay on deck, I don't really blame him much but don't help them out. Wait for a better pitch than that, it was 3-0 for crying out loud.
  18. I really hope you're right, but this has been his 5th start....all of which have had the same thing happen. Either 3 run shots or 5 hits in an inning or something. That sure seems like a huge amount of bad luck for one guy. 5 starts is nothing. He's showing no signs of injury so I'm not worried at all. Oh, I agree, 5 starts is a small sample size and he didn't really have a spring training at all. This stretch is one of the worst he's had outside of his first year in the majors. Hopefully things just start falling his way a bit. In all honesty, it's probably unfair, as we all expected/hoped he would come in and revert back to 2009 form, which I'm sure he'll never quite duplicate. Time for Casey to remember he was an RBI machine last year. Or swing on 3-0 and ground out.
  19. Greinke has given up 4 or more ER in 3 of his first 4 starts, and 3 in this one already. That's kind of alarming to me. By comparison, last year, when his ERA was 4.17....he only gave up 4 or more ER in 10 out of 33 starts. 4 of those came in September when he may have been tired or stopped throwing his slider. Maybe the injury and missing spring really effected him, but in any case, he's either getting extremely unlucky or this is the worst he has pitched in the last few years. His numbers outside of ERA are stellar, but something just seems off to me.
  20. It's hard to understand. He's getting a ton of strike outs, yet he just seems to run into an inning when he misses with a pitch or two and next thing you know, it's 3-5 runs on the board. Nice inning by the offense there. I guess I can't expect much else with Kotsay and Counsell both due up.
  21. His results have been a complete bust. All his peripheral stats (even this year) point to him being an excellent pitcher. 3 run homers instead of solo shots and 4 hits in a row instead of scattering them over 4 innings, etc. I think his luck will even out and he'll be a stud. I really hope you're right, but this has been his 5th start....all of which have had the same thing happen. Either 3 run shots or 5 hits in an inning or something. That sure seems like a huge amount of bad luck for one guy.
  22. Morse is now 10-20 with 5 HR in his career at Miller Park. That inning just got ugly real fast. Went single, double, HR in about 5 pitches. Just seems strange with Greinke. He is dominating for 3 innings, then just explodes for a big inning. I don't get it. I almost think he's throwing too many strikes, that they know they'll get something to hit because he wants to get ahead in the count. It also doesn't help that it seems that every time he misses a spot, it's out over the plate and the hitters haven't seemed to miss one of those against him all season long.
  23. Where was the rumor about the Bucks listening to offers on Jennings? Seems pretty early to give up on him. He regressed last year a bit, but I still think he can be a productive player in this league. He's still only like 21 or 22 years old....depends what we'd get for him I guess.
  24. When the other option presently is Mark Kotsay or Brandon Boggs, there is absolutely NO excuse to not have Hart out there at least 5-6 times a week. I can not understand the fascination with Kotsay that RR has, it's very distrubing.
  25. It seems that every time we face Hernandez, we'll hit about 10 balls on the screws, and have 8 of them get caught. He throws lots of hittable pitches usually, just a matter of finding some holes. Hopefully Hart has woke up, makes our offense very difficult to handle...now just get McGehee to realize he was good the last two years and revert back to that form and we'll be set. I have a good feeling though, something seems to have changed with this team (maybe just being at home) but they suddenly seem to think that they're going to go out and win every game. Not hope to win or wait for something bad to happen.
