  1. I would posit Seminaris starts in Double-A and Junk starts with the Big Club. I would simply swap out Peguero for Junk. And, we know ML FA signings in the Double-A and Triple-A stables are still possible if not likely. I don't see Lazar in Biloxi to start the year whatsoever - IF they go in-house, I'd initially just swap in Seminaris. Beyond that, Cornielle is much more deserving than a Lazar. I think they move both Puello and Moore to the bullpen in Wisconsin (Remember, Rhyne was promoted before everyone, oddly. Then Puello. Neither had near the impact of the three young guns in Rodriguez, Cruz, and Cornielle). Perhaps, they consider Garabitos in a Starting role? Just spit-balling. Under-the-radar candidate BUT I am skeptical Puello sticks in a starting role - I would give the nod to Moore here. Fun exercise.
  2. I'm going to be perfectly honest: I don't believe Chourio is a gold glove OF'er. He's solid, yes. But having watched him live, literally all season, he never really popped for me but say a few surprising occasions. From my vantage point, he is certainly nowhere near the overall defensive OF players of the Brewers very own Garrett Mitchell or Joey Wiemer - honestly, it really isn't even all that close in this regard. What Chourio has demonstrated at a very young age is an ability to read the ball off the bat. He typically makes the right read and makes the right first step. But, his arm is quite average at best and his range isn't a level beyond other CF'ers from my vantage point. And, this being said, who cares what I think. It's a hell of an achievement for an 18 yo. And it brings further attention to the Brewers. Congratulations to Jackson for an incredible recognition! MLB Article here
  3. Purely depth would be my best guess. I don't have any contacts in the Brewers personnel dept or FO. BUT, from a strictly roster building perspective, I would opine it makes some sense. I obviously would have rather the 40-Man spot been used to protect Cam Devanney from the Rule 5 - I continue to find him vastly underrated and my personal opinion is he is already a really good baseball player with underestimated upside. BUT, the Brewers may view the bevy of OF talent, especially with a Jackson Chourio in the wings, as a place to trade from as they make more roster decisions down the line. Having a switch-hitting, improving and possibly ascending (emphasis on possibly) former high round talent is understandable. It could also strictly be they valued him as a priority Minor League FA for that AAAA depth as other 2021/22 ML FA's depart for other clubs. Hard to tell and I don't imagine they'll speak much to this acquisition and we won't know what transpires until if and when Perkins makes it into the ML season with the Brewers organization. Using the 40-man spot as a bit of enhancement to get the signing, however, should tell you they value the signing more so than other ML FA pick-ups - at least at this juncture.
  4. A friend of our family is in the Yankees personnel department and has advanced fairly close to a voice in Cashman's ear. He said Perkins has made noticeable improvements in the patience of his approach this past season. I would offer his lefty stroke reminds me quite a bit of Garrett Mitchell. Anyhow, I know it's not cool to not complain but I'm excited to watch his growth in Nashville (and perhaps Milwaukee) in 2023. Fun signing.
  5. You can never take enough stabs at new arms. Junk and Peguero are interesting upper Level arms who are learning the ropes with mixed results in brief MLB stints. Given I was dead on with Strzelecki, I'll make actual judgments when I see them in live action. There's enough to work with there, however, to be mildly intrigued. Junk is a low 90's 4-seamer but he can touch 96-97 with good spin. He tosses in a Slider and a Curve (slider is the better offering) and he has worked on a change-up but he rarely uses it. He definitely could carve a niche with the Big Club. Peguero is a guy who has been sent around since he first arrived with the Yankees in 2015 - he's been sent all over and probably pushed too soon. However, he has 2 options and is 6'5" 215 - I think Sweetie and his staff will enjoy working with him and they need another piece after so many FA departures. I think Seminaris was elevated way too soon by the Angels. There was no reason to push him above Rocket City in Double-A after he was struggling to adjust after dominancing High-A. I imagine he'll start the year in Biloxi where Guerrero will be thrilled to have another Lefty starter to work with. I have no idea why anyone would take issue with this trade. Hunter Renfroe is traded every off-season. We have five MLB ready OF'ers to throw in the mix with various skill sets - each of whom thrived in Triple-A. All are fast as hyeck, fun to watch, skilled in different ways, and deserving of opportunity. The Brewers needed more arms, they saved some salary cap. Fine trade.
  6. Love me some Pablo Reyes. Let's hope he gets some meaningful MLB burn ala Mark Mathias with the Rangers just this past season. Pablo wore many hats with the Sounds - including the clubhouse translator for the Spanish speaking teammates. He will be missed.
  7. Following up here: It would appear 'Yunior' is being listed as 'Idalberto' in the transaction wire. To that end: OF Idalberto Santiesteban has been assigned to the DSL Brewers 1 He will join the above-mentioned and recently acquired RHP Elias Gonzalez
  8. And, to follow up here, it would appear Gonzalez has officially been assigned to the DSL Brewers 1.
  9. Also, I said it all summer in my Minor League Reports: Jon Singleton: really talented baseball player. Did I think he'd be protected from the Rule 5 draft? Heck no. Am I disappointed? Absolutely not. Incredibly underrated defense and hands. Always a threat to go long off a righty. Always a threat to grab a free pass - he set the Sounds single season record for walks in 2022. Cam Robinson scuffled and struggled some in his promotions to Double and Triple-A, respectively. BUT, let us not forget: when he is on he is very on. He did throw an immaculate inning in Nashville. It's fairly evident the Brewers know they have something here. Lively arm. Lotta violence in his delivery. Saves leader across all of Minor League baseball in 2022 so he is capable of handling big moments. I expect bigger and better things as he gets more experience. I am saddened they didn't ensure Devanney's protection. Extremely underrated talent. If he gets nabbed, I'm going to be fairly bummed. He made my ritual nightly Brewers Minor League viewings (especially in Biloxi) more enjoyable. He has a bright future - I just hope it's with the Crew.

  11. Yeah, Uribe is as untouchable as it gets. You don't let a guy who regularly sits 98-99 and touches 101 with some nasty breaking stuff sit idly by while the Tampa Bay Rays find a way to scoop him up for their Big League roster. Uribe dominanced in the AFL: 0 runs allowed over six weeks with massive K numbers. What's more? I'm fairly certain he was working on a secondary fastball grip in Arizona too. I can't confirm this. I haven't seen it confirmed. BUT, I'm fairly certain he was working on multiple grips in Arizona. There's a lot in his toolkit and I would surmise he's adding to it.

  13. In the Rays quest to own at least 25% of the Milwaukee Brewers Farm, they retroactively amend a mistake from the 2022 trade deadline: Rays trade INF Brett Wisely to the SF Giants for OF Tristan Peters
  14. They've also selected the contracts of: RHP Cam Robinson AND 1B 'Big' Jon Singleton ** As Singleton's biggest fan on this board, even I am surprised. Tho, as I said numerous times during the 2022 season: he's a very undervalued talent. Fantastic defender. Always a power threat and always a threat to take the free pass or strikeout. Fascinating.

  16. Garrett Green published his final 2022 'end of season' Game Notes: PDF HERE
  17. The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers have released: RHP Zach Mort RHP Tyler Gillies RHP Christian Tripp We wish each of these young men the best of luck in their future baseball and personal paths.
  18. Good for Hobie. Sad for me. He was a solidifying force in the Sounds bullpen. Wishing him all the best.
  19. Just a heads up to anyone interested: Brisbane won't be playing again until 11/18 when they'll face the struggling Sydney Blue Sox.
  20. Bump. Less than 24 hours away from the Rule 5 Draft protection deadline, and the Brewers MLB roster sits at 35. Quite interesting.
  21. Middendorf and Warren getting some AFL Championship game notice: HERE (The movement they're discussing here is Middendorf's Four-Seamer versus his Sinker - both excellent offerings)
  22. And, Zavi Warren comes up clutch here in the 10th with another single. This time an oppo looper over the 3B side off of extremely tough Royals reliever Jonah Dipoto (yes, Jerry Dipoto's son). What a performance from Zavi here in the championship game. 5-4 Glendale.
  23. AND, just like that, that Glendale defense continues to drop that ball. Literally. Just truly weak middle infield/outfield play between McClain (Reds), Ramos (Dodgers), and Julien (Twins). Ugly stuff. Now 4-4 here in the 6th. This Glendale pitching staff deserves better. This is the 3rd lead Glendale has surrendered. Two of these squandered leads are directly related to errors up the middle - this doesn't include the Twins' Isola botched pop up near the dug out and then lackadaisical pursuit of McClain's errant throw (allowing the original tying run way back). You have to play tighter baseball in championship games.
  24. Zavi Warren baby. Hits a beautiful oppo RBI line-drive single through the 1B/2B gap on a four-seamer rising and outside. A really nice shortened compact swing on that hit - showcasing why I consider him an advanced hit-tool prospect. It's not always about power, folks. That's the second beautiful piece of hitting from the up-and-coming multi-tool prospect. 4-2 Glendale here in the 6th inning. Warren is now 2-for-3 (2 1B, 1 K).
