MLB Trade Rumors wrote up a list of potential trade fits for Brewers closer Devin Williams. In typical MLBTR fashion, it's a good read. I'm skeptical of some of their choices but there are a few worth noting: Philadelphia Phillies: other than the fact both the Phillies and Brewers are in the National League and therefore are indirectly competing for the same playoff spots, this fit makes the most sense. The Phillies under Dave Dombrowski are always looking to wheel and deal and their bullpen is perennial a weak spot. New York Yankees: after getting egg on their face and losing Juan Soto to the fellas in Queens, no one knows how the Bombers are going to react. They could be in on literally everybody at this point. Kansas City Royals & Detroit Tigers: after surprise runs into October last season, either of these teams could be in the mix for Williams as they step into a long contention window. In particular, keep an eye on the Royals. They're trying desperately to convince the locals to build them a new downtown stadium and have shown a willingness to spend to buy some goodwill. That's fair. A ton of teams are facing this issue in the wake of the TV collapse. It's going to create further stratification within the sport where teams like the Dodgers can drop $20m on a player without hesitation (and not really care if they have to release him later) while the Brewers, Twins, Diamondbacks, hell even the Rangers, are tightening their belts.

I think this is a little simplified. First, Sanchez is somewhat unique because he can don the tools of ignorance but also has a decent bat, especially against LHP, but you don't want him starting anywhere every day. Second, while I often use FanGraphs' WAR to do quick-and-dirty evaluation, teams do not. They have their own internal evaluation systems that may tell them very different things about Sanchez and how to maximize his performance. If the Orioles think they have a way to get the equivalent of 1.5 wins out of Sanchez, that's worth more than $8.5m.

I wish Adames the best but no way do I want his profile for seven more seasons.

Good for him, super sad to see him go.

Just didn't live up to the name.

Thanks for the heads-up on this. I fixed it at launch but it appears our outside dev went and slyly undid my excellent work. 😀 I'll fix it again.

Games started getting longer around 2000, which (unfortunately) is two and a half decades ago. But the pendulum on a lot of baseball's current problems started in the late 90s and continued to snowball for decades: longer games, less action, more reliance on homers, etc.

I'm not anything close to a baseball "purist" and this idea is dodgy at best. But even so, I'd like to see it in real life just to see how it plays out practically. Not in MLB, of course, but somewhere. Either way, I applaud Manfred for actually trying to think creatively instead of boxing the sport into nostalgia and purity tests. Baseball should have been having these conversations decades ago; most will be crap and discarded (likely this one) but others were long overdue (the pitch clock).

The players keep coming in our attempt to create specialized pages for all Brewers players; come take a look at some of the newest members of the group! What is the Players Project? It's a community-driven, wiki-style project that focuses on Brewers players of all stripes. It's open to all Brewer Fanatic users and we've had contributions for current players, past players, and players who never even made the major leagues but played in the Brewers farm system. Create your favorite player today! We saw several more players added to the database, largely due to the awesome input from @Michael Trzinski. Huge round of applause to him for working so diligently on this project! Bob Coluccio is one of those short-term role players who are easy to forget unless you were there. A fan favorite of the mid-70s Brewers, Coluccio earned the nickname "The Macaroni Pony" from Bob Uecker himself. Take a look at this great write-up from new user @Dave Umhoefer, who joined the site just to create this page for Coluccio! Carlos Gomez was one of those players you tuned in to watch every night because you had literally no idea what he was going to do next. It could be brilliant, it could be... less than brilliant. But whatever it was, you were going to be entertained. Armed with every tool in the box, Go-Go's blinding speed in center field led to an outstanding player who endeared himself to fans with his over-the-top energy for the game. Did you know that Felipe Alou, legendary player and manager, played for the Brewers? I didn't. He actually played in Milwaukee twice: he had a nice two-year run for the Braves in the mid-60s and then closed out his career with the Brewers, playing only three games in 1974. This is the beauty of the Players Project; while most of us are familiar with Alou's incredible career, it's easy to forget his brief stop at County Stadium in the twilight of his career. Thanks again to all who contributed this week, please stop by the Players Project by hitting the button below! The Milwaukee Brewers Players Project is open to all Brewer Fanatic users. If you're a Brewers history buff or just want to dive into the background of your favorite player, come on board! View full article

Thanks for posting this, @Dave Umhoefer!

If there is interest in this, we can consider making it a site feature with its own dedicated space. Like each day you could hit a page and it would display a list of things that happened in Brewers history that day.

Thanks for the history lesson, @Snoebird. That caused me to look into the AL charter teams and I was reminded the Yankees were NOT a charter team! The original Orioles folded after a couple of years and were replaced by the team that became the Yankees.

You can now embed Bluesky posts just like you do Twitter:

THIS ARTICLE IS SO GOOD Brilliant work, Davy!

It’s not change for the sake of change. Forums tend to get “forum bloat” over time and it’s a good idea to re-think what goes where every once in awhile. But people seem to like this forum so it can stay.
