  1. In all seriousness, it would be nice to see an article that discusses the issues with some of the "stats" that are used. blown save is definitely one of the contenders for the most useless stat.
  2. Maybe you can write an article and name them all.
  3. That's because the Yankees fans expect World Series titles. Brewers fans are just happy for a winning record.
  4. The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus is coming back next year. Maybe some of the Brewers should think about applying.
  5. It almost seems that if the Brewers score it was either an accident or a gift from the other team.
  6. Wong is 2nd to last/last for almost every advanced fielding metric for 2B. Urias is in the bottom 20th percentile for 3B for the advanced fielding metrics. They both need to be replaced with better defenders.
  7. I'll repost what I said in the similar topic in the "Transaction Rumors and Proposals" Forum: I'll also add Jay87shot's reply with ideas for Texas prospects in addition to Jung: After 2+ weeks, I would modify the above to slot Turang as the 2B and use Urias as a super utility player. Jettison Wong any way we can as his defense is now abysmal so as a late inning replacement he doesn't pass the grade. Keeping him around as a LH PH is possible, but I think they could find a vet with more power in free agency who wouldn't cost as much and Tellez would be available some games if they find a RH platoon for him. Heck if they wanted to pay Wong, why not just invest in Jace since he has more versatility and at this point is a better value.
  8. No stolen bases are not part of the OBP or SLG calculates. Neither are errors. Yes, singles, doubles, triples and HR are all included in Total Bases (TB). Sabermetrics has an issue with SB in that you need to have a ratio of SB/CS that is higher than 2/1 (might be higher as I think there has been further analysis of the ratio where SB actually have a positive impact) before that player is providing positive running and if the ratio is lower then that player is actually doing harm. I don't think we should be removing Adames from the lineup just to be giving those AB to Turang. Both would provide near elite defense while we currently have hatchet men at 3B and 2B. If the Brewers can find a 3B that can hit and field to average then I think they should put Turang at 2B and have Urias as a super utility player. If they can't find a 3B then put Adames there and put Turang at SS with Urias taking over as starting 2B (probably could have passable defense). Sign CC to a contract that states he can't bat Adames in the top 4 of the batting order until he can get his OBP above .330 (minimum 100 PA). Edit: in an Ideal world you put Adames at 3B and Turang at SS. Since Willy is close to FA he would likely resist a change as it could reduce his value. So Turang at 3B/Adames at SS until Willy hits FA or is traded.
  9. I think we are due for a double digit scoring game then a week of 2 runs/game.
  10. No animals were harmed during the filming of the game.
  11. Since the discovery of OBP x SLG (or OBP + SLG) I thought that if two players had a similar number, the one with the higher BA/OBP was better because they were giving away fewer outs. Since a team (in most cases) has 27 outs to outscore the other team, not making an out is an important skill. It just seems the Brewers want to improve the SLG while not being concerned with the fact that most players have a drop in OBP when they are focusing on increasing SLG. Maybe they think that a 0.02 increase in slugging will only get you a drop of 0.015 in OBP so it's worth it, but they are ultimately strangling the game into a 2 true outcomes sport (HR or K) which is taking a game that used to have nuance and strategy and making a game with so little action it makes cricket seem like a high intensity sport.
  12. I wonder what the bad offense Diamondbacks looks like.
  13. Maybe Moises can lead us to the promised land, Moises Alou.
  14. It lead to an earned run so I don't think so. The Pirates mistake was to send Yajure out for a second inning, but good to see the Brewers take advantage.
  15. I guess Hiura can hit balls in the upper third of the strike zone. Another myth defeated by KestDaddy!
  16. Maybe the pirates will screw up a few plays this inning and the Brewers can score an insurance run against the inevitable solo HR from Cruz.
  17. At least Freddy is keeping pace with Cy Opposing Pitcher.
  18. They just seem to be treading water. We need to start seeing 6-4, 7-3 and 8-2 as the Last10 games instead of the current 5-5 and lower that they seem to be having for months. I agree this is an important game, but they all are beginning to be important at this point.
  19. I may need to bone up on my speed reading skills as the last sentence read "punting my kids" the first time through!
  20. It is likely to be nothing-at-all. I've looked at it for about a hundred managers and the above pattern could be seen with many with no correlation to overall record or even current season records. It was far short of exhaustive. but I didn't see any correlation to the point I just gave up as I didn't want to look at more data and waste more time to "prove" it was random. I'm guessing this would lead back to the discussion of what impact a manager has on the overall team performance.
  21. Brewer management has already decided that reverse splits make no sense so they can ignore them.
  22. They also might have felt there was enough info to counter some/most of the reasons why he dropped in the draft. Since he was ranked as high as a 2nd round in some rankings the Packers may have felt it was more likely that he would be claimed and/or that Walker offers more long-term upside.
  23. I don't know if it's that low. I tend to think overall ranking tracks with top 100 prospects and you need to have 4 prospects in the top 100 (and not all 50+) to be higher than 15th (since each team should have 3.3 on average and the middle is #15/16). So I really don't think they are that far from #19 on mlb.com. I think you could make the argument that we should be flipped with the Giants as 2 Top prospects (#17/#22) isn't necessarily that much better than Churio/Frelick plus Weimer (#11/49/89). Hard to argue we should be higher than #18. Where they may get a bump is if Turang or Mitchel make it into the top 100 at the end of the year or next preseason plus where does Ruiz end up.
