  1. Well I was too young to remember the last Braves win (Milwaukee, not CB) and I have several contemporaries that have passed without either remembering the 57 Win or seeing a Brewers win. Yeah it happens. How many generations of Cubs fans never saw a championship, Indians/Guardians fans? I am personally enjoying the current teams under Sterns more than I did the 80's Brewers or 2011 Brewers. Those teams just seemed like softball teams (score a lot, allow a lot) compared to the current team that is pitching centered with an above average offense.
  2. From NFL.com the Packers were in the mix for Hill. Interesting as I don't know how they would be able to fit him under the cap without multiple extensions/restructuring to other players. Edit: NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported the Jets' offer did not include one of their two first-round picks (Nos. 4 and 10 overall), but would have included their two second-rounders (No. 35 and 38).
  3. I'm guessing they pay him at the $2.425M rate until the hearing and then either write him a back pay check and up his salary if he wins or keeps the rate the same if he loses. I guess this is the first time arbitrations are going into the season instead of being handled prior to opening day so it's not clear how they will operate.
  4. Shake it off, at least you had a reasonable complaint. 99% of the message board slander on Gute is usually based on far, far less. Bernie making life a little difficult for Billionaires always makes me There really is no reason that MLB should continue to have the exemption which means there's likely little chance anything changes.
  5. That's a really neat factoid! Thanks! ?
  6. $12.8 and $3.2 are my guesses for Hader and Lauer.
  7. Ok. Maybe this is real: ZSmith signs with the Vikings
  8. ??‍♂️???
  9. For those looking for more on the Freddie Freeman decision can find a nice article here So it appears Freeman initially wanted more than the Goldschmidt deal (5 yrs/$130M) and the Braves offered 5/$135M then Freeman wanted a sixth year. It sounds like the Braves countered by increasing to 5/$140M and it sounds indirectly that his representation was holding firm on 6 years (they didn't say Freeman, they said "his representatives seemed steadfast in finding such a deal for him"), so the Braves moved on to Olson. The article points out that the contract he signed with the Dodgers was likely equivalent to the Braves offer due to differences in GA vs CA state taxes. Sounds a little like moving goalposts from Freeman and representation that was looking for the biggest $ amount and scoring a "win" for the client that led the Braves to move to option B.
  10. Carolina? But they may be done with other teams castoffs.
  11. I think this has been brought up before on brewerfan.net, but signing top level free agents is the worst use of your money. You are routinely overpaying for the production they provide, because 99% of them are past their prime when they hit the open market. The most cost effective production/$ are from players you control, during the 6 years of team control, whether form your own draft & develop or through trade. A team that's in the smallest TV market needs to spend money wisely when most big-market teams can easily spend 70%-100% more in payroll to put together their teams. I'm less concerned about losing our own players to Free Agency as I am to how do we recover some of their value before they leave. With the elimination of the draft pick compensation, I would like to see the Brewers look to trade some of their soon-to-reach free agency instead of just riding out their stay. The problem is that if the Brewers have playoff level talent so trading those players just makes it harder to make the playoffs then you need to keep them. However, I am fine with the team trading those assets if the playoffs look like a pipe-dream that year. Maybe that's too calculating, but there's 100's of things every day that we have no control over. I'm fine not having control over what my team does, but I reserve the right to complain about it.
  12. Can the Lady Sooners pull off a miracle comeback? Nope. ND just put the pedal to the metal and now leads by 43 with less than 5 minutes left. Edit: Final, 108 to 64.
  13. CREDIT CARDS!!!!! Specifically fixed amount debit cards. So one of the kids gets us a VISA debit card for Christmas. Great. Much appreciated. I go to use it today, pull if out of the drawer, remove the sticker on how to "register" it to get to the 16 digit number. Go online, register and find $35 in charges on the card already. Go through 30 minutes of sitting on the phone to resolve. Not once, but 3 times I need to read out the last 8 numbers from a separate barcode on the back of the card. They have what appears to be a 3000 digit number for the barcode or something like that because each number is like speck of dust. Then answer a billion questions about my activity related to the charges when it's clear that somebody has cracked their card algorithm. I didn't even know what the number was for the card because it was under the damn sticker on the front. Now I need to wait for the fraud investigation before I can get a new card as the first representative said, "the card has been compromised". Ya THINK!!!????!!! Then they have on the sticker that the last 4 digits of the card are your pin. Why don't they just make every pin 1234. If someone knows the 16 digit card number they know the PIN!!!!!! Why not use the last 4 numbers of the barcode on the back which is unique for each card? Why? ISN'T that more secure? And they don't have a number to call for lost/stolen or even an option when you get into their automated phone system until you have already gone through 5 minutes of crap, including multiple reminders that you can register online or find the latest balance online, BUT YOU CAN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT THEFT/LOST ONLINE. Give me the direct number for FRAUD!!!!! Seriously, banks and financial institutions have this crap happening 24/7, but they inconvenience the customer to save $0.02 on every $100 in profit. AUUUGGGGHHHHH!!!!! I feel better now.
  14. Congrats Brock and co on a great transition! Bravo!
  15. Just saw this halftime score for NCAAW: Notre Dame 60 Oklahoma 25 Just WOW! I didn't see any of the game, but the highlights showing on ESPN are just 3-pointer after 3-pointer by the Lady Irish. And believably a win% of 99.9% with a half to go.
  16. LOL. I have to look up the numbers because my memory is not what it used to be! I believe Bryce Harper was struggling early in his Phillies tenure with the high fastball and it appears that he was able to make the adjustment. I'm not saying Keston is the same talent as Harper, but I'm probably saying Keston is likely smarter, so, he should also be able to make the adjustment.
  17. Thanks! I was thinking April 5th, but that will get me some time to check out a vpn.
  18. I agree. He would also be the likeliest platoon for 1B with Rowdy plus taking some of the DH ABs from Cutch against RH pitchers.
  19. I think the Brewers are hoping for a dead cat bounce from Dahl, but I just don't see it.
  20. I'm waiting too. I keep opening my Tuesdays APP to see if they snuck it in even though the "Next Tuesday" section doesn't have anything. I guess their message that it's "on deck" means "just before the season starts".
  21. I really want to see one of the stud DL's picked and from what I am seeing they will be gone by the 54th pick. So that means #22/#28. I also think they need to draft a WR early, but if one of their top players isn't there at #22 then there could be a tiny window where I would be ok with a Safety at #28, but their likely would be an EDGE that they could get instead. Without seeing the board unfold it's hard to say. The great thing with having 2 picks in RND 1 and 2 is that they will likely be less inclined to overdraft a player and I am praying Gute doesn't fixate on a few players then move around just to get them and lose some draft capital. With a deep draft there should be plenty of favorites!
  22. So they trade a QB who will be 30 and had a RATE+ of 102 last year and replace him with a QB who will be 37 and had a RATE+ of 100, 102 and 98 the last 3 years?
  23. I really hope they aren't going with a S/DB/QB/RB with any of the first 4 picks. Those seem to me to be pretty low need considering the holes at WR, TE, depth issues at EDGE and OL plus a real need to upgrade their DL. I get the TE class is week, so that might just be a later/developmental pick with Lewis and Tonyan back (at some point). I am hoping for offense/defense split for the double first/second round picks then BPA/fill in needs for the remainder. An improvement in the personnel around Kenny Clark should be a priority.
  24. In most cases people will move past it when the player is suspended and he/she loses the associated salary. What the Browns have done is unique in that they are really removing punishment from the player by structuring his contract in such a way that he will only lose a tiny fraction of what he should lose. I believe this is the first time a team has actively set up a contract to reduce the impact of a likely suspension due to sexual assault. To me that's a really bad look.
  25. Keston goes deep! Didn't hear that often last year. Hope that's a good sign!
