  1. Maybe Bisaccia should be working on the Offensive Line.
  2. Did you mean like on a playoff team that doesn't have health issues? Or did you mean any team, because I'm confused by the use of "better". I know it's a well used word in the english language, but I guess comprehension isn't one of my best characteristics....
  3. Didn't we just have an offseason with a lockout where there was little time to discuss anything because they weren't talking. Am I confusing the offseasons? Is he stating that the Brewers management followed the owners/mlb instructions not to negotiate with any player during the lockout?
  4. I fully expected what happened yesterday to happen and I didn't even bother to watch the game. Still think this is a 12/13 win team. If the defense takes a step forward (I am not expecting top 3, but top 10) then they have the horses to make a run at a Super Bowl. I just wish there was a little bit of the desire of Brady/Belichick where they want to win every game/scrimmage/even the time outs.
  5. While it isn't easy, I'm not sure the Reds were looking for effective pitching to finish out another losing season. They just wanted a body and that's what Chase gives them. Not sure they wanted to have any more prospects use up service time if they don't have to.
  6. I wonder if anyone has asked the Red Sox to give back their 2018 title since it was only in the third straight year they were in the playoffs. The Red Sox 2013 title should be vacated because that was their first playoff appearance in 4 years. The Cardinals must be outraged at the violation of this unwritten rule. Good to know the Red Sox won't be competing for Burnes or Woodruff since they won't make the playoffs this year and can't possibly have a chance in the year Burnes/Woodruff become free agents. And the Giants clearly have no clue about the 4 straight years to have a chance as all 3 of their recent titles they missed the playoffs the prior year. What were they thinking? Have a chance? Bah!
  7. Yeah those FOUR post seasons have yielded the following: Yep that great record in 18 games is going to excite all those players. Wooohooo! 4 straight!!!! One and done 3 of the years!!!! Yay!!!! I guess we'll just have to settle for those huge trophies and banners they award for making the playoffs and we can display them alongside the 1982 World Series Losers memorabilia and celebrate them every year. And as a franchise we are just a juggernaut:
  8. Does the call appear on the scoreboard with the pitch track or is it still up to the ump to interpret the pitch track?
  9. I have mixed feelings, but without a change to the current system I think there will be a push for auto strike zone calls. I don't want to see them increase game times by adding in challenges, but do something in a "free market" way. Hit the umpires in the pocketbook if they are bad at strike/ball calls. Do something like keep 60% of their salary fixed with 40% of their salary based on where they are on the percentage for correct calls. Umps that are near the bottom only get 50% (or less) of that 40% of their salary, while those with the best percentage actually get more than 100% of their 40%. If they are losing money they will start doing a better job. Also, base their promotions (especially when they add new umps) on their accuracy of calling balls/strikes. While not as perfect as a roboump, it would incentivize umpires to get better and sometimes money is the best incentivizer, it would keep the historic system in place and it should lead to better accuracy.
  10. Chase Anderson hasn't been above replacement level for 3 years and he pitches with his right hand. No reason this offense should struggle tonight.
  11. MLB.com, go to standings, click on wild card tab. There's an elimination number that is for WC/playoffs.
  12. But this is just like the 3 batter rule. The length of games was never impacted by pitching changes to a big degree, but slowing down of batters and pitchers for each pitch was the main driving force. These changes are the same, they really aren't addressing the real issue driving the drop in stolen bases, triples and doubles. If you can't put the ball in play then a shift doesn't matter and bigger bases don't matter. There may be some increase in contact as pitchers may not be able to recover in the time needed to make another pitch, but MLB needs to address the issue of getting more contact and more balls in play on that contact. Move the mound, drop the mound, change the ball (deaden it) so when contact is made the chance it is in play is higher leading to more singles, doubles and triples. More baserunners, more stolen bases, more action. Less HR, so what. Chicks dig ACTION, not watching guys stand around doing nothing.
  13. Phillies won so the Brewers lose at least 1/2 game in the W.C. standings no matter what happens in SD. If SD wins it's 1 game to 3.5 back.
  14. McCutcheon hitting like he knows no team is going to offer him a contract for 2023.
  15. Maybe the Brewers could lobby MLB to play all their remaining series on a single day each. Worked against the Giants.
  16. I wonder if since Tyrone Taylor hit 2 HR in one game does that mean we have to wait 4 weeks for another or will we see one in 2 weeks? How long is the wait?
  17. Vilified? Other than Cain and his representation was there another single person on the planet who knew that milestone was coming up? Maybe an intern who brought it up? I vilified them for making us watch his appearances. I think we're reaching that there would be any outrage given he was toast at that point and he was getting paid whether he stunk it up on the field or sat at home. No the Brewers didn't have a huge ceremony, they let their mouthpiece (McCalvy) at mlb.com came out with it. I really don't care what the team wants to do if it doesn't impact me at all. Having to watch Cain stink it up does impact me. They could have sat him on the bench and he could have twiddled his thumbs for the last few weeks, but CC's gotta play those vets.
  18. So the Brewers basically grandstanded as he would have still received 9.75 years.
  19. Amen! With the already known manipulations like changing the ball which in essence has diminished activity in games we should be happy with any change that brings back the action and reducing the monotonous boring part of the game (PITCH CLOCK FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!!!). If they are going to deaden the ball then reduce the mound or move it back so there are more balls in play that aren't HR. Three batters is just crap as it's been show to hardly make any significant difference. Pitch clock. Banning the shift? Since batters don't try to defeat it why should MLB come to their rescue. If batters want to focus only on launch angle, then keep the shift since they don't want to adapt. Pitch clock. No reason the games need to last more than 3 hours or 3:15 with the current manipulations, if there was 20% more activity then the length isn't as much and issue. 40% more activity - nirvana.
  20. For MLBPA they could do a payout based on exact service time since there isn't an employer interest in manipulating service time for pension. Historically the milestone has been used to give companies flexibility (a former colleagues spouse was layed off at 9.5 years when 10 years was the minimum for qualifying for a pension). If companies have a pretty general hiring curve and 5 year milestones then 20% of the workforce is within a year of reaching a milestone on average. To save money those are the ones to target for staff cutbacks as they are the most cost effective. It has become almost a non-issue today as most places have moved away from pensions. Unionization often protects against those types of targeted layoffs as almost every union negotiates last in first out agreements as part of the collective bargaining.
  21. Yes, I never feared the Dodgers when they had GMs from Malone to Colletti (DePodesta was never given a real chance). Hiring Friedman was the worst thing for 29 teams as it gave the Dodgers with their vast resources an Excellent head of operations. The Brewers shouldn't be trying to compete with the Dodgers, Mets, Yankees or even the free-spending/dim-witted Padres/Phillies. They need to be positioning themselves to be competitive against the vast majority of the teams that make up the next tier, middle and bottom. They are within striking distance of those teams and having the 3rd or 4th best team in the NL makes it much easier to get past the early rounds of the playoffs and closer to the promised land. There's no reason the Brewers can't compete monetarily with the Cardinals and for now, the Cubs. Stop making mistakes like the 2nd Braun contract and the Yelich contract. I know there's a lot of hesitancy of going that route, but the Braves and Astros both did a tear down rebuild and both of those organizations are in much, much better situations than the Brewers are today and probably for several years. Where the Brewers made the mistake was to try to field a decent team while building up a bottom of the league minor league system leading to mid to late round draft picks and really never adding assets to the organization, just churning of vets and FA signings. Sure we got a few winning seasons and a playoff streak, but up and down this organization there are only 2 or 3 "stars" (all pitchers) and they are headed to free agency in 2ish years. They may have hit HR on Chourio and Quero, and Frelick could be, but he isn't there yet and neither is Weimer. By the time those guys are performing at a level needed to lift this team, both Burnes and Woodruff will be gone. I was always high on them when they were youngsters and I don't see anyone that will likely take their place currently in the Brewers system.
  22. Yes they did. It's weird in this day and age that there would be any significant difference in what someone with 9.9 years vs 10 years of service time gets. It's not like they can't calculate it for every day and have a continues benefit calculation vs going with year or multi-year milestones. To me it's ironic that the MLBPA would be so upset about teams gaming the service time system and they have in place a system for benefits that makes gaming the system necessary.
  23. While it appears to have some advantage is it large enough to change most of the teams decisions at the MLB level. Here are team numbers for Stolen Base % for 2021/2022 (Left) and Stolen Base attempts per game for 2022 (right): I'm guessing most teams seeing the slight increase in success in the minor leagues won't change their attempt frequency much if at all.
  24. I'm definitely not happy with the team, but I wasn't happy last year or the year before too. The record is irrelevant when you have the type of pitching that we've never seen before and it is being wasted because management isn't adding enough pieces. McCutcheon was an owner approval because it maxed out the budget! The team far exceeded my expectations in 2021 thanks to a near record injury-free pitching staff. Enter 2022 with most of that staff intact and an offense better than 2021 and we have a "normal" year for injuries and this team is likely missing the playoffs. Comparing any owner to Selig is really a win-win for that owner. It would be hard to find a more incompetent ownership group than the Seligs and just making every decision using a coin toss would lead to a better team than the Seligs were ever able to muster. I am not questioning that the current Brewers management knows what they are doing. I question whether their goals are the same as my goals as a fan. I want them to try to win a World Series. If that means tearing it down to do that then do it now. If they are happy just getting into the playoffs where 1 game/series and done is the pattern then we have differing goals. Other fans are fine with a winning team and the playoff loses in case there's a miracle and the team wins 4 series against the best teams in baseball to win a World Series. At this point we are all hoping for a miracle.
