  1. I'm positive on acquiring him, less positive on using a 40-man slot for him, but I have no idea whom the Brewers are going to protect so I don't know if it matters. I don't know what this says about getting an upgrade at C. Probably lessens the chance.
  2. I see zero reason to acquire Bell.
  3. It surprises me. I don't know if they'll be able to find a better reliever for $2.25M. I think this signifies that they're just going to go with the scrap-heap reclamation projects to fill out the bullpen. Sign 4, 2 might work out.
  4. I mean, sure, if you're going to do a complete rebuild, trading him, Adames, Burnes, and Woodruff. But if our current batch of prospects come through, I'd want to keep him.
  5. You might be spoiled. The last 6 years is probably the second-best 6-year period in team history. We've never had a top of the rotation like our current team.
  6. It gives them the flexibility of extending someone beyond their arbitration years, but I don't know it provides much opportunity to acquire good players. Abreu might be the only player that fits that they could sign, and there might be competition for him which prices him beyond the Brewers' ability to match.
  7. Since most teams don't run very much, speed is probably pretty appropriately valued. You're definitely right on defense.
  8. High OBP (with low-moderate HRs) guys were undervalued back then. Now, teams value OBP more, so have to look for the next undervalued class of players. BTW, it might be the lowish OBP with plenty of HR guys like Tellez.
  9. I'm not the first person on this site to mention him DHing; one of his proponents did earlier this offseason. He does have one appearance as a DH for the Brewers.
  10. based on the BTV site, you could get him for Frelick and Moore or Mitchell + Brown + Logan Henderson. or Mitchell + Ruiz + Misiorowski.
  11. Moneyball is about acquiring undervalued resources.
  12. The evidence is that he has gotten progressively worse at fielding and that Turang is better at fielding. Not saying he'll DH 82 games, like McCutchen did, but I suspect he'll DH more than half that, unless Turang doesn't perform (or they make other trades/acquisitions among INF). As much as we'd like it, Yelich isn't going to be DHing all the time. He hit fine in the second half. He was a horror in the field in the first half.
  13. What $20+M a year guy do they get who would make a difference? Budget should be a consequence of making acquisitions (trade, FA), not a goal in itself.
  14. I think it means Wong will be DH a fair bit of the time. Our McCutchen replacement was already on the team.
  15. Yes, if you ignore his strong decline in defense.
  16. You don't trade one of your starters at the deadline if you're contending. You acquire someone to fill a need if you can. It's simple.
  17. It doesn't have to be at the deadline if there is no good offer. Then you wait until the offseason. I really don't think it will be a hard decision when the time comes.
  18. My preference would be to bring them back for next season, and move them at the deadline, if we're out of the race, or next offseason. My second choice would be to move all of them right now, assuming the return was satisfactory. Caveats: 1) Of course, if any of them are willing to sign a reasonable contract, you do so. It would be great to extend them 2 FA years, but I don't see them willing to do that. 2) Of course you trade any of them if the offer is extraordinary.
  19. Your logic only works if every player went year-to-year with their contracts. And even then, pretty poorly, as many teams would be fine with a one-year overpay. So, I guess it doesn't work at all.

  21. Burnes is certainly top 3 in MLB. And $30 to buy out a single FA year is extremely optimistic. He'll want longer.

  23. ranked by what? He shortly will lose his prospect rating as he accumulates ABs next year.

  25. Ah, I see you think he'll be a 3B. Quite possible.
