  1. Because as was pointed out earlier there isn't much starting pitching in the upper levels of the system, and unless you want to include Misiorowski who just arrived in Biloxi these are your two best. It's just how I value starting pitching, especially for a franchise that isn't all that well-equipped to go out & buy it.
  2. I'd never rule out picking up another reliever because that's what we do. But I'd rather we didn't due to the eventual additions Sveum & wiguy alluded to. I mean, we could use a bat or two, but I'm not even trading Gasser or Rodriguez for a bat unless it's one with a lot of team control.
  3. Interesting top of the 7th. If CC & Hook felt good about Teheran v Olson then he definitely should've gone back out there. But it wouldn't have made any difference as CC was going Peguero-8th regardless, and once he does that I doubt he uses Milner to match up. I thought we had a chance to tax Heller a little in the 8th, and of course the one unsuccessful AB of the first 4 that inning is Contreras being over-anxious on the first pitch & short-circuiting the whole thing. Ticked me off.
  4. Given his approach (at times) I think breaking stuff off the plate is locating "well", if you know what I mean. But he doesn't do much damage to hittable breaking balls either. The chasing is something he needs to reign in, for sure. He shows signs but it's very intermittent. It's a big part of the reason I was so against CC moving him up in the order for a few days when he had the hot streak.
  5. Since July 6th he's hitting .500. One of the things to watch as he continues to develop & gain respect (and be pitched carefully) is, will he be able to extract walks like wibadgers23 mentioned. But yeah, he's doing nothing to discourage the lofty rankings.
  6. Moving forward, I could see Wiemer sitting vs SOME righties. Not a straight platoon, but getting some downtime vs RHP's that locate sliders & curveballs particularly well.
  7. I agree with this. The other thing is the L-R-L-R idea, which CC admittedly doesn't always adhere to but can in this case by dropping Adames one spot & leaving Contreras alone. Everything being equal, the young man belongs 1 or 2.
  8. This. I like Lane Thomas quite a bit, & have to admit I never thought of Joe. If they were rentals I'd be doing some serious talking, Their current status IMO makes them both less attractive and more expensive.
  9. Once things come to fruition, Yelichs' subpar arm is probably going to be a factor. You never know what a FO is thinking (or Yelich, for that matter) but a move to 1B makes sense on paper.
  10. What I want to know is, is Frelicks' debut worthy of national mention? I mean, 3-3, four productive ABs, two outstanding plays in RF, & was instrumental in his team winning a baseball game is all well & good, but more importantly, did he break any statcast records?
  11. Best overall comfort level for both at this time, with Wiemer spending so much time in CF. It wouldn't shock me if they're flipped in '24.
  12. Agree. I'm a big Joey Wiemer fan, but that was clearly a bad matchup for him at this point in his development.
  13. That's a tough lineup to get through, made tougher when you set the table for them. The walks to start the 2nd & 3rd innings were killers. On paper it cost us 2 runs, but you can make the argument it cost them more than that. Just a shame it took us into the 3rd AB of the ninth to decide to spit on the splitter. Easier said than done when behind in the count though. That's what I like about Devin & the changeup. He can throw it for strikes if he chooses.
  14. That's basically how we were able to acquire Tellez. I wouldn't be surprised if the FO is scouring other organizations looking for a similar fit.
  15. I liked a lot of what I saw from Peralta his last couple outings. When an AB or two didn't go his way, he didn't flinch. Held his composure, kept making pitches. He failed pretty miserably in that regard earlier this year.
  16. Long-term, I feel pretty strongly about Wiemer in RF. I just don't know if they'd mess with moving him right now. They're both more than capable of playing CF, which is a great "problem" to have.
  17. I noticed that in the highlights & even on his mugshots, he just looks solid. Makes his speed and baserunning instincts all the more impressive.
  18. He's been productive down there, no denying that. This is just a guess but I'd say the decision-makers don't trust his defense.
  19. Tayden Hall walked 3 more times tonite for Carolina, bringing his OBP up to a slowpitch-like .465. Also getting his hits. Hall is a big boy, if he can start to generate some power to go along with the approach that would be fun.
  20. Chances are they'll do *something* before the deadline regarding adding a bat. But if they don't it'll be real interesting to see what decisions are made. Black is on every Brewer fans' radar. As you said, Frelick is warming up. Then there's everyones' favorite soap opera, As the Hiura Turns. Urias could even hit his way back here.
  21. Looking at what the BP guys have done who are already here, then add to that Uribe coming up here and (mostly) throwing strikes--something I was concerned about--nah, I wouldn't want to put resources toward bringing Hader back. Much greater needs.
  22. The run-prevention machine is humming, combined with 2 or 3 guys starting to hit. That's usually all it takes. Big shout out to some of the people the organization identified as guys who could help if need be. You'd never give Monasterio or Perkins a 2nd thought when perusing the systems' talent, but they've been instrumental in wins. Even Jones was the difference maker in one game.
  23. Turang drove a few balls early in the season (remember the grand slam?), and it seemed to me like that got him out of his skin a little. What was frustrating to me wasn't just that he struggled, but HOW he was struggling. His approach should largely be based on the situation he finds himself in---outs, baserunners, even the score at the time. You want to see an aggressive mindset at the plate, but there's such a thing as being overly aggressive & I believe he's been guilty of that much of the season. A couple walks drawn today, and a couple recent ABs where he fell behind in the count & still drew walks, are IMO good signs for Brice. I think he's been "getting himself out" way too often much of the season.
  24. I'm with you on 5 of the 6. If they were willing to deal Blackmon I'd at least listen to what their thoughts were. He'd have to come real cheap though due to the age & the hand injury (things like that can linger). He also hasn't spent much time in the OF the last couple years. Your top three are mine too.
