  1. Thanks guys, I am an LLC, no employees, just me (my law practice). Also, no offense taken on the 2005-2007 tax return advice. I just want to know the correct thing to do. If I think I might be able to get a little more back maybe I will have my accountant look at that as well.
  2. I left my job in Mid-September and started my own business 9/29/08. When you factor in what I invested into the business to start it up and what I made from October 1-December 31 I think it was about "even" so there would be no income, but I dont know the tax rules concerning self emoployment. I mostly am wondering what I should expect to pay an accountant. Id have my wife's w-2, my W-2 from my old job, and the balance sheet from my biz where I indicate monies in and monies out and monies into my pocket. $250? More? Less?
  3. Oh. That sounds hard/complicated. I know I have a bunch of disks provided to me by Dell. One says XP on it, there is some other garbage as well. I have never done anything like this so perhaps I shouldnt mess with something I have no clue about. What would some other place charge me to do a complete wipe and reinstall? I just cant afford a new computer right now.
  4. I have an old Dell laptop that I bought for Law School in fall 2003. It still works relatively well for what I need it for - which is strictly internet use at home, watching YouTube, other television shows online, etc. I have some documents (Word) that I would need to take off, as well as a bunch of downloaded music from iTunes, but other than that the PC is loaded with garbage that I dont need. I know how to get off the Word Docs and iTunes and other music. But from there, how do I go about reformatting the computer. Maybe I am using the wrong lingo, but what I want to accomplish is to reset the computer to when I got it in 2003. The reason being is that it runs SO SLOW now, it takes forever just to open Firefox and I cant watch videos on it all because the picture just freezes (the audio is generally fine). Would reformatting accomplish what I am looking to do? Thanks
  5. Well it is tax time again so why not start a thread for various tax questions. Here are a few I have. I have always done my taxes on my own and never had much of a problem at all. However this year I started my own business in October and therefore I am considering having an accountant do my taxes. Question 1) What I would have the accountant do is the taxes from my wife's job, my job prior to my business, and then my business. I have no investments or anything crazy like that, just income from 2008. How much should I expect to be charged by my accountant to prepare my tax returns? Question 2) It occurs to me that from 2004-2006 that I might actually have been able to receive MORE than I paid in, as I was in school, making less than 30k a year and was supporting children. I believe it is the Earned Income Credit perhaps? I remember figuring my taxes and just stopping when I reached -0- paid in, even though it seemed I could have gotten back more than I paid in. It didnt seem like it was correct. Anyway, Question 2) Can I file Amended returns for those years and get back more?
  6. Brevard County is above West Virginia (now Appleton).
  7. I would rather just keep Hall rather than get rid of him and still be on the hook for this salary. He has so much more potential to this team than just as a 3b. He should be platooned most of the time and limit his exposure to RH pitchers. On top of that though he is a capable fill in almost anywhere else on the field.
  8. Do you have a link or a source?
  9. In this hypothetical situation, who is being pinch hit for when the lefty reliever comes in? I dont see how this is a huge problem as of now our entire lineup is right handed, save Prince Fielder, and how often do you pinch hit for a positional player prior to the 7th inning? So basically we are worried about the two or three times in a season that a situational lefty 1) isnt used in the first 9 innings 2) the game goes to extra innings and 3) the one of our bench lefties has been double-switched into the game and is getting their 2nd at bat. I am not too worried about it.
  10. No, Ive just had you on 'ignore' up until now http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  11. You may want to fix the italics in this post. I thought it was a quote from someone in the article you linked. Maybe it is and I missed it. Usually italics indicates you are quoting someone or giving attention to part of a quote. Just confusing if those are your words (I tend to agree with them) or someone elses like Melvin or the writer of the article.
  12. Born in the middle of December. September is my favorite month.
  13. Yeah unfortunately 50 Bids isnt going to do you any good. Even in the TV that I won I spent 64 bids and you could say I got "lucky" with that one. I dont believe that smaller ticket items are worth chasing (like Wii or PLaystation) because the final sale price is to close to the actual price to be any savings when you factor in cost of bids and risk of not winning. Id stick to TV's over $1000 and Laptops.
  14. Are students using laptops for note taking in undergrad? I know we did it in law school but was unsure if it was accepted as the practice in undergrad classes. I suppose, perhaps a lecture class you might, but otherwise, probably not.
  15. The ballot for 2013 is going to be loaded. It already will feature Greg Maddux, Mike Mussina and now Jeff Kent. Add the possibility of Griffey and Frank Thomas and you could be looking at 5 guys, really 4 minimum going in on the first ballot.
  16. Wow, Prince has really let himself go, huh?
  17. The Maryvale Complex, where the Brewers train, has many, many fields and the entire organization trains there in the spring. You usually (at least you used to) can get pretty close to the minor league fields and watch them work out. One year my dad was down there watching team workout and after the players were done for the afternoon my dad was hanging around one of the dugouts and Cecil Cooper was in there. They had a chat about some of the players and my dad helped Coop pick up the dugout of all the gear and such. He said it was pretty cool. Also, one year when I was down there (2003) we took in a game at Maryvale and while we were walking to our car we walked right next to and past Prince Fielder, who was coming back from a minor league workout and walking to the "clubhouse" area. So yeah, they are all down there.
  18. Anyone know what the Phillies offered Ryan Howard last year? Also, where do 6 and 8 million fall in the history of first year arby awards? I know Howard's 10mil was the highest ever, is Prince made 6, where would that fall?
  19. That is why the Nationals cant do it half-way. They need to sign the Dunn's, Cruz's and Sheets in one year and lose a 2nd, 3rd and 4th. Then if even one guy plays to his ability they should get two better picks back. The plan should not be to fiddle away a 2nd round pick and a 2nd round pick only on a Juan Cruz. Once you invest the 2nd round pick, each additional FA gets less expensive draft pick wise and risk is minimized. Not to mention of you give up your 2-4 Round picks you can invest more heavily in your first round pick and take the absolute best player available. Also, the Nationals arent that small a market.
  20. Still, you cant plan on an injury. It would be a blow for any team to invest money and draft picks in players if the players get hurt and cant play.
  21. My guess, and it is only a guess, is that Sheets felt compelled - both for his own benefit and because of the pressure by the fans in years past who have given him plenty of grief - to "toughen up" and pitch hurt through August and the first part of September. He did that until he just couldnt do it anymore and he still got grief from the fans and it has hurt his chances in the FA market. I'd be ticked too.
  22. I think I heard somewhere that when the economy suffers that baseball still does well because instead of going on a 7 day cross-country vacation, some folks go to a Sunday afternoon ball game, get 4 in the terrace or bleachers, tailgate and make a day out of it. Probably cheaper than the gas to drive to and back from wherever they would go on vacation. walk ups could still be strong, especially with a good team.
  23. Can't it only be a who blinks first type scenario if Sheets is looking this way? Also, if 2/18 + option for a third is what he is looking for that is insane. If I were Melvin I would call Sheets' agent and tell him he'd go 2/17 + 10 million dollar team option or 1 mil buyout. I would go nuts if we could make that happen.
