  1. Would imagine Murph will give us a definitive update this afternoon. If I had to bet, though, I think he'll return in Minnesota or Chicago (which they'd ideally want him for).
  2. I think it's fair to say that as long as two of Joey Ortiz, David Hamilton, and Luis Rengifo are consistently in the lineup, the Cubs will have the overall advantage at the plate. Brewers do have a path to somewhat negating this imo with their high end upside if Chourio and Turang can sustain their current level of performance, which the metrics suggest they can to a significant degree. Defense is basically a wash between the two clubs as both are elite by DRS. Though, PCA in CF probably gives the Cubs a slight advantage as none of the Brewers OFers are at that level. Where the Brewers make up ground right now is their pitching, especially their starting pitching, where the Cubs are absolutely decimated due to injury. Brewers pitchers miss way more bats than the Cubs to begin with. I don't know why anyone wouldn't think at this stage of the season it won't end up being a battle to the end between these two clubs. Exactly the way it's been the last three years, with the onus on the Cubs to unseat the three time defending champions. Both should be playoff teams regardless.
  3. The Reds? You mean the one team in the division that has actually struggled to score runs and which has like three good hitters and a host of really bad hitters.
  4. Lol you can't just pick and choose games to fit a narrative. Even if you could, you'd then have to take away every other team's best three games before you make any comparison.
  5. They're top 5 in baseball in runs per game without arguably their 3 best power hitters.... And your conclusion is that they're the worst offense in the division?
  6. Assuming the X-Ray doesn't miss a fracture on Chourio for the second time in a month (baseball gods surely don't hate us this much, right?, I'd play it safe and activate him during the homestand. Let him rest it today and tomorrow during the minor league off day and then get a few more ABs in the minors.
  7. Doubt you’d hear anything today with the off day for the big league club and affiliates.
  8. If Braylon Payne is now a power hitter, feel like that changes things A LOT. His prospect status should be taking off with his tools. Swing and miss not exactly where you want, but not really out of control for his age.
  9. Let's not take Gary Sanchez out of the lineup today, please, Murph. We need his power so long as three of our biggest power hitters are out. Mitch Keller has been a bit lucky this season. Need our lefties (looking at you Turang and Bauers) to feast as Keller struggles much more against lefties.
  10. Every team is different, but are we seriously doing this again in April? Have we learned nothing from this franchise over the last decade? Also, it's not a couple weeks from Chourio. It's more like one week, with Vaughn seemingly set to follow shortly thereafter, presuming the all-clear from his surgeon on Tuesday. Who knows how quickly they'll get up to speed, but their presence (and the resultant lackthereof from the likes of Jones, Perkins, etc.) will undoubtedly be of benefit to the rest of the lineup. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that it's some of the same people from last year, and the year before that, and the year before that.....
  11. What do you mean no returns in set? Chourio is swinging a bat, including on the field tomorrow, and is set to be back by the start of May....Probably the first week, which is only a couple weeks away.
  12. Did anything happen with Henderson in the 4th there? Following on Gameday and said there was an injury delay. He stayed in to face the next batter before being taken out. I know he's been on a limited up-downs/pitchout schedule to start the season, but curious if I should brace for potentially another injury.
  13. Gotta feel pretty good about Harrison going against this lineup with the way he’s throwing.
  14. Grant Anderson is low key deserving of leverage innings with his start to the season. I'd probably take Megill out of leverage for now and have Anderson as your RHP to help bridge to Uribe, who has clearly earned the 9th inning at this point. Ashby is really needed in the later innings. Really sucks we burned him for the weekend in a game we lost by 4.
  15. Think there might be something to the WBC hangover. Zerpa was used as heavily there as any pitcher. Guys just aren't used to having to go all out in that type of hyper competitive environment that early in the calendar. Wonder if Turang's knocks and recent slump aren't related. Add in Chourio's injury....
  16. Grant Anderson is low key deserving of leverage innings right now. If I were Murphy, I'd take Megill out of leverage for now (if he doesn't end up on the IL) and go with some combination of Uribe, Anderson, Ashby, and Zerpa in the later innings. Of course, doesn't help that Ashby has basically been burned until Tuesday now.
  17. This is the "win tonight" strategy in action. Nats' best hitters are all lefties, and Patrick is worse against lefties. By having an opener in front of him, you reduce the number times he has to face those guys. Ashby has had a day off and only pitched 2.1 innings in the last 5 days. He'll be fine for an inning or two.
  18. We're looking at a month or more still with Vaughn unfortunately. Chourio thankfully only is a matter of weeks, perhaps less than that. It's pretty brutal when you're having to play multiple of Perkins, Lockridge, Ortiz, and Rengifo against RHP.
  19. I don't know a part of me kind of wants to see Uribe punch someone again.
  20. Also, Chourio didn't get extended until after he had spent an entire season in AA and AAA. Made is 18 and has only about a week's worth of ABs in AA. I'd venture to say this deal has next to nothing to do with Made or his proclivity to sign an extension.
  21. And the Brewers will get an absolute haul and be incredibly well-positioned to replace his production when Turang reaches 30 years of age. The Hoerner deal extinguished any hope of the Brewers extending Turang.
  22. They way Murphy and Arnold have talked about him, pretty clear they are as high as can be on his glove at SS. Which is saying something for such a defensively-oriented org. Think that's what it comes down to, and they'll take what they can from his bat. Pratt was still an above average hitter in AA last year as a 20 year old.
  23. Doubt it. Made has played like 5 games in AA. Wait until after the season, maybe.
  24. Yes considering he’s by far their best backup C option with McGuire gone. Could be Bill still, but don’t think that alone says anything.
  25. It's not a personal attack to point out a not very smart comment.
