    Plus, if you would poll any contender's fanbase after a frustrating loss like yesterday, you would get a list at least this long. No team is without holes. The Brewers have as few as any team this side of the Dodgers.

    Chourio and Made (if he's extended) are easily your best shot. Mis is probably out of the realm of possibility for an extension at this point, but if he wins a Cy Young this year and has his best years in MIL during his prime, he'd probably go in as a Brewer. Which is good because with starting pitchers not logging as many innings and breaking down more frequently than ever, we're going to have to put more emphasis on peak production or otherwise not have any more starting pitchers inducted into the HOF.

    One more potential question for Spencer specifically: with Luke Adams finally healthy and heating up in AAA, do you think he could potentially become a real consideration at 3B if the Ortiz and Hamilton platoon doesn't hold up offensively?

    Now that we're arriving at the halfway point of the season, do you think this Brewers team is better than last year's franchise record winning version? Are they better equipped for a long post season run and a real shot at taking down the Dodgers and where would you like to see them improve between now and the deadline/October? Do they have enough in AAA to supplement the roster and where might they have to look outside the organization? Curious for yours and Jack's opinion on this "big picture" sort of question. Don't have to answer everything in here, but would appreciate more of a halfway point evaluation. Thanks!

    What's wrong with Sanchez? 125 wRC+ from your backup catcher is tremendous. His job is to crush lefties and he does that.

    Uribe and Megill are really rounding into form. Velo and stuff are now extremely close to where they were at last year.     You’re conjuring up a hypothetical that isn’t even relevant to my original point, so no I’m not going to answer. The fact remains that Vaughn and Frelick vs RHP are virtually indistinguishable to this point in the season by the surface level stats and metrics. There is no getting around that.

    My argument is exclusive to RHP and has been this whole time…. Overall, Vaughn is clearly the superior hitter. But against RHP his bat speed and power are down significantly to the point where he’s not really that different from a guy like Sal Frelick (who is hot this month btw). Thus, in a situation such as today where there’s righty starter on the mound, Frelick’s range in the OF quite reasonably gets him on the field over Vaughn.

    How you feeling now? Also, have you seen Vaughn’s slugging % against RHP? Almost identical to Frelick’s. Effectively the same hitter against RHP right now indeed.

    Not wanting to let routine outs and singles to turn into hits and XBHs is stupid? Against RHP, Frelick and Vaughn are statistically the same hitter. Thus, defense and range becomes a tiebreaker at a park like this.

    Before anyone freaks out at Vaughn being out of the lineup, which imagine is going to happen, consider that Atlanta’s OF is relatively cavernous. You don’t really Bauers out there, which means Vaughn is unfortunately the odd man out against the righty starter.

    I wouldn't necessarily call a 123 wRC+ "toothless". There's really only two elite full-time DH's in the game and they reside in Los Angeles and Houston.

    It was a bloop and a well placed otherwise routine flyout. We're overreacting to a two game sample size here. Last two games, the Brewers have outhit the Braves significantly by xBA, which isn't a perfect measure, but a pretty good indication that you shouldn't take too much away from two close losses and that the Brewers have been quite competitive and the recipients of some bad luck.

    I keep seeing this, but the Braves literally threw their ace at us today.... It's two good, relatively even matched teams competing against each other. Braves just won two 1 run games where they were the beneficiaries of some good fortune.

    Oh, I see. You're one of those guys that makes a rash emotional statement and then with presented with actual evidence that indicates otherwise gets angry and starts attacking stats in general because his "eye test" is supposedly superior to everything.

    I think using Megill in the 8th was more about making sure Ashby gets the Braves' dangerous lefties.

    Our pitching has an 11.5 fWAR, 3.40 xERA, and a 3.53 FIP. Their pitching has a 7.6 fWAR, 3.73 xERA, and a 3.97 FIP. Brewers=better. And your comment was "we can't compete with them"....These games, the teams' respective run differentials, and hitting/pitching stats suggest that we can definitely compete with them. Where is the basis for saying we can't compete with them?

    Dodgers, I'll give you. But the Braves? We score more runs per game than they do and have better pitching than they do (11.5 fWAR vs. 7.6 fWAR). What are you talking about?

    I mean both teams are throwing their aces, and these games have been very competitive. Why wouldn't we be competitive with them in a postseason series?
