I’ll scoff at the notion that Andrew McCutchen and Connor Joe are going to keep hitting at the MVP/all-star level they currently are and power them to a division title.

Connor Joe, Andrew McCutchen, and Jack Suwinski leading the charge for them alongside Reynolds. I think we can expect some regression there....

Despite our injuries, we're still in pretty good shape almost a month into the season. I don't think many people are buying the Pirates as a real contender, and even the Cubs to a lesser extent.

Geez. McCutchen's already put up more than half of his bWAR total from last year in 21 games....

This is a bit of an exaggeration. Rich Hill is pitching no different than the slightly above replacement level pitcher he's been over the past few years. Contreras is the same as last year, intriguing stuff but still walking way too many and not striking out what his stuff would indicate. Oviedo and Keller have taken steps forward, but still no better than mid-rotation pitchers. Then, on the position player side, you have Reynolds who is a true star, but otherwise you have a bunch of veterans and lower pedigree young position players playing out of their minds. For instance, McCutchen has suddenly started hitting like it's 2014, and Connor freaking Joe has a wRC+ approaching 200... Better than the past couple of years, when they were really bad? Sure. But an up and coming team? It remains to be seen.

Not ideal obviously, but Mitchell was due for big-time regression with his K% and GB%. Just means it’s Frelick szn (when he gets of the IL obvi).

I don’t know if they’re playoffs good but they’re definitely better than last year. On the other hand, the Dodgers are a lot worse than they were last year and are a great candidate to miss the playoffs of last year’s playoff teams.

Interesting. There's little precedent for that in MLB. Maybe the St. Paul Saints and the Twins?

If that happens, they should purchase the Sounds and move them to Madison.

Garrett Mitchell showing why his prospect stature is a little lower than Chourio, Frelick, and Wiemer's...high K%/GB% combo and always injured... Too bad about Frelick's thumb. That combined with the 40 man spot probably did the trick. Depending on how severe Mitchell's shoulder sublaxation is he could still end up as the starting CF in relatively short order.

This is pretty clearly going to be an IL stint. Can be very serious depending on severity. Fernando Tatis Jr. had it in 2021 and only missed about 10 days, but ended up requiring surgery after the season. Brian Anderson had it in 2021 and missed a significant amount of time on the 60-day IL, also requiring surgery. If it's more on the short-term side like Tatis, you could see Perkins. However, if it's much longer than that, I think you're going to see Frelick as the new starting CF in place of Mitchell...

Honestly, I think Corbin is going to make his next start. Not really what I would do, but with the way CC and Corbin talked about it last night (“cramp”, “tightness”) I think that’s where we’re headed.

Mitch Keller from the Pirates is someone we should target imo. Former top 20 prospect with a few of years of control left who has put up middling numbers despite his high-level stuff. Sounds like a familiar story (Cole, Musgrove, Taillon)... Would be a nice back of the rotation addition at the very least with the potential for more if our pitcher development system is able to work its magic once again. Also, would add another option for next season, when we'll presumably be without Burnes.

Honestly, I’d be fine with trading any of our prospects not named Chourio or Misiorowski for a starter. Garrett Mitchell, in particular, would be a great sell-high candidate…

Cards have to finish below .500 at some point right? I don't think it's particularly likely just due to how good Goldschmidt, Arenado, and Walker are, but a guy can dream, right? Main thing is that they don't appear to be the clear NL Central frontrunner most people thought they were due to how awful their starting pitching has been.

Noticed that Hiura has completely ditched his leg kick. If he shows improvement with the K numbers, I’d be tempted to give him one more shot and drop Voit. He’s crushing the the ball as he usually does. Worth paying attention to going forward…

I'm not worried, yet. It's a small sample size. Corbin, Woody (provided it's a short IL stay), and Freddy have established themselves as among the best strikeout artists in the game. Same with Devin from the bullpen. He's only pitched 3 times thus far, which obviously impacts the overall K numbers. These guys are the reason why we've been among the top pitching staffs in terms of Ks over the past few years. We'll see with guys like Lauer, Bush, Strzelecki, etc. Velocity concerns in the beginning of the season generally tend fade away the further you go and the warmer the weather gets, unless there's an underlying injury. I just find it hard to believe that all of those guys simultaneously have underlying injuries. Trading a Hader definitely hurts. And the guys we've replaced him with (Payamps, Guerra, etc.) don't exactly have high K histories.. But, at the same time, you have Uribe, Cousins, Gasser knocking on the door in the minors...

I’ll also add to my bold predictions that I think that, of the 6 NL playoff teams from last year, the Brewers will end up taking the Dodgers spot in the postseason. Dodgers are in some real trouble imo with the Lux injury and the players they lost in the off-season. -
