  1. I'd rather go back to having 4 true OFs. Perkins is fine imo as a 4th OF/late inning defensive replacement/pinch runner type. Voit is a waste if he's not going to hit LHP.
  2. I think they should probably start repeating some guys in Carolina to start the year before sending them to Appleton in like Mid May. Brown would have been a great candidate especially after the swing change.
  3. I think they're going to sit Turang this entire series and give him a reset after a tough stretch at the plate. Colorado and some righties could be helpful for him.
  4. Aside from their series against the Dodgers and the Astros, the Pirates' schedule has been pretty laughable to this point. I do think it's becoming clear, though, that they'll probably settle around the mid 70s to low 80s in wins rather than the 60s/low 70s they've been at over the last 8 years, But Connor Joe and Andrew McCutchen (at this point in his career) aren't the MVP candidates they're hitting like right now. And it's hard to believe that Rich Hill will stay healthy and that Vince Velasquez has suddenly figured it out at age 30 after being a downright terrible pitcher his entire career. Contreras, Oviedo, and Keller are nice arms, though. Overall, hard to see the Pirates becoming buyers and parting with the necessary prospect capital to acquire difference makers at this stage in their rebuild.
  5. Good to see Contreras DHing. That should be the default option against LHP to get him rest from C and keep his bat in the lineup. 135-140 GP needs to be the goal. Would prefer to see Rowdy at 1B instead of Voit, but if you're going to still have him on the roster, might as well play him. Due for a dinger one of these days.
  6. Yeah. We should be fine experimenting with those guys until the deadline imo. I'd throw Peguero into the mix, too. His sinker, slider combination is pretty nasty.
  7. Think he's better suited in the 6th/7th innings, serving as a bridge from starters to set-up man/Devin. Abner Uribe would be the guy internally who could fill the 8th inning role. Aroldis Chapman could be a consideration at the deadline. I'm hoping they promote Uribe to AAA within the next couple of weeks. Unless they think he'll be able to make the jump right from AA.
  8. Thinking about it more, Voit probably has until Taylor returns. Once Taylor is back, we can just go with Taylor/Wiemer in RF, Anderson at 3B and Brosseau at 1B against LHP....And then Contreras at DH, with Caratini catching. Still probably one above average against LHP hitter short, but that can be taken care of at the deadline.
  9. Getting Taylor (109 career wRC+) and Urias (120 career wRC+) back will help against LHP. But the Voit experiment has to be nearing an end unless he suddenly picks it up with the bat. It's getting to the point where I'd rather have Hiura, whose K% has decreased over the last week or so in AAA (SSA I know).
  10. Yeah. First time was sort of a dumpster dive. This one was just a really prescient signing.
  11. I did. Mainly because Rowdy came into the game with only one hit against LHP. Oh well good on CC
  12. That’d be good honestly. Last thing we want is an NL team trading for Ohtani, especially the Cardinals.
  13. That’s a really nice win. Opportunity to salvage a rough home stand the next two games. Where would we be without Miley. Given how the injury bug has once again struck our rotation, that might turn out to be one of the best FA signings of the Stearns/Arnold era.
  14. Yeah. Tyrone can go to RF when he comes back.
  15. I’ll scoff at the notion that Andrew McCutchen and Connor Joe are going to keep hitting at the MVP/all-star level they currently are and power them to a division title.
  16. So CC pretty much listened to me. I didn't really expect him to DH Contreras today seeing as he sat on Wednesday. Only complaint I really have is Wiemer hitting a bit too low, but that's small potatoes.
  17. Hey he still be more than fine. Even when he doesn't rhyme He may not have all the time. In his stead we can just mime.
  18. Joey Wiemer over the last 7 games: .348/.375/.608. Kid might be figuring it out at the plate. Already at a .7 bWAR/.5fWAR due to the value he provides in the field and on the basepaths.
  19. Would like to see this lineup tonight: Yelich LF Brosseau 3B Adames SS Contreras DH Anderson RF Voit 1B Wiemer CF Caratini C Miller 2B Think we could score some runs tonight with that lineup. Naturally, though, CC’s lineup probably won’t look anything like this and will almost certainly involve Brosseau leading off and Yelich hitting 3rd…
  20. Brewers are never landing that big-time of a player from Japan. We were never seriously in the picture.
  21. Connor Joe, Andrew McCutchen, and Jack Suwinski leading the charge for them alongside Reynolds. I think we can expect some regression there....
  22. Despite our injuries, we're still in pretty good shape almost a month into the season. I don't think many people are buying the Pirates as a real contender, and even the Cubs to a lesser extent.
  23. His performance in AAA this year was a huge SSA. He already earned it with his performance last year, a la Wiemer and Mitchell. Not that I think he should go right to the big league roster when he's healed from surgery, but a week or two of games with him showing no ill-effects, and I'm calling him up if Wiemer and/or Taylor are struggling/injured.
  24. It'll be worth it if he's hitting and we're in contention.
  25. Good read based on study of MLB players. Basically, he'll miss the 6-8 weeks post-surgery, but shouldn't suffer any ill-effects re. performance. https://www.healio.com/news/orthopedics/20180912/mlb-players-likely-to-return-to-usual-play-after-thumb-ucl-repair
