  1. I was talking about teams that are interested in signing him as a FA….
  2. With Burnes, you can’t include 2019 because that was pre-cutter. Entirely different pitcher since then. Teams won’t give a crap about that season, as they’re only interested in projecting the future. His HR rate did regress last year from its incredible levels of 2020/2021, and was largely responsible for the .5 climb in his ERA. Assuming that returns to a mid level, he’s probably somewhere in between 2021-2022, which is still CY Young level.
  3. Since 2020, Burnes is #1 in fWAR/ERA/FIP and #9 in IP (more than Scherzer, DeGrom, Fried etc.). Best pitcher in baseball on a rate basis and also one of the most durable. Teams are going to have very little to pick on, and as a result, he is going to approach the record for a SP contract, if not set it outright.
  4. Rowdy is going to keep hitting into hard-hit outs for eternity, isn't he....
  5. When you go to games, do you pay to watch ownership? Because I don't... By that same logic, were the Brewers not still the Brewers in the 1980s when they were owned by different ownership? Meanwhile, what are the constancies? The fanbase, community, etc.... I'm not an Attanasio hater, but there's far more reason to be angry with him and the FO than with Burnes imo. Like trading away an all-star reliever from a first place team in the stretch run...
  6. LOVE LOVE LOVE what I'm seeing from Gus Varland. He's definitely trending toward the OD roster.
  7. Agreed. The system is what it is and it sucks. Though, I do think Burnes has earned the right to voice his opinion. Should he not have said what he said? Maybe, but I'm not going to fault a guy for being honest with the fans and the media. Nor do I take his comments as being disparaging to the team. The ownership and FO? Yes. But I honestly don't give a crap about them. It's the players, fans, community, etc. who make up the team.
  8. There are some people who like to shill for MLB ownership; I'm not one of them.
  9. Except he didn't disparage the team. He disparaged the team's FO, which he believed made unfair and unnecessary comments about his performance last season. There's a difference....To be honest, I could care less about the front office so long as they're able to put high-quality players onto the field. The players are the ones who make up the team and are the reason why I watch. Believe it or not, Burnes is far from the first player to rip on a front office's handling of the arbitration process. He may have been the most outward this go around, but he's not the first, nor the last...It's the system that people should be mad at. He's not out to make MKE or the team look bad; he's heaped nothing but praise onto the community, the fanbase, his teammates, etc.
  10. And the team's bashing of him and his performance is okay? Just as the team was within its rights to do so in the arbitration setting, there's nothing that says Burnes can't express his frustrations publicly when pressed by a member of the media...
  11. "Players on the league's joint competition committee raised concerns and suggested several adjustments to the pitch timer recently, and the new changes are "important in my mind because they're responsive to things players said to us," commissioner Rob Manfred told the Associated Press. Other, more significant adjustments, could be made at a later date" Oh no. Looks like there's even more "whiners" about the pitch clock than just Burnes... https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/mlb-rule-changes-league-to-tweak-pitch-clock-but-15-and-20-second-limits-remain-for-2023-season-per-report/
  12. I agree that this NIT run has been oddly enjoyable on a personal level, despite the strong disappointment of missing the NCAA tournament. But, I don't think it would be wise for a program like UW, which has established a baseline expectation of making the tournament every year, to hang a NIT Championship banner in the rafters of the Kohl Center. If we win, let the players wear the t-shirts, lift the trophy, and party in the locker room. But let the celebration stay there. It's funny because in the basketball iteration of the Kohl Center, there is actually an inscription on the facade noting the Women's NIT Championship in 2000, with virtually nothing else. For the men, though, there's only a notation of Sweet Sixteens, Elite Eights, Final Fours, NCAA Championships, BIG Tournament Championships, and BIG Championships. Different programs, different expectations. Best keep it that way imo.
  13. Your comments don't upset me. They just don't make real sense to me, particularly your viewing of Burnes' skipping of the WBC as mark against him when every other star American pitcher declined the invite and that his critiques of the FO and the arbitration process would cause dissent amongst his fellow teammates, who are even more hurt by the system than he is.
  14. Maybe, but I was talking about his comments to the media following the Hader trade. In that context, it's a literal regurgitation of what he said....
  15. The Cardinals pitchers are not stars. And Williams is a reliever. Again, every star American starting pitcher (Cole, DeGrom, Verlander, Scherzer, etc.) skipped the WBC. Absolutely ridiculous to develop a grudge against Burnes over that. Honestly, all we should care about from Burnes is that he is productive and is a good teammate. He's been the #1 pitcher in baseball, so it's an emphatic yes to the first part. Now, is he a bad teammate because he complained about how he was treated by the team in arbitration? Maybe @monty57thinks so, but it's highly unlikely his coaches and teammates feel the same way, which is what really matters. And, remember, unlike Lauer, Burnes didn't call out the front office after the Hader trade. All he said was that he was sad on a personal level about losing his friend, but that he understands it's a business.
  16. Why get mad about Burnes specifically for turning down the team USA invitation when literally EVERY OTHER American star pitcher did the same thing... He's trying to make as much money as he can get, just like any of the rest of us would...Why should we proceed to cast stones at him, other than the fact that we're fans of a small-market ball-club. Blame the system, not the player. Burnes is a class act who has given his all for this organization, and has been as dominant as any pitcher in our history. It sucks he'll be leaving, but it's not his fault.
  17. I agree that he provides some great attributes in his rebounding and (potentially) his defense. But, again, you need shooters when you're constantly playing alongside two of Wahl, Gilmore, and Crowl.
  18. Jordan Davis was valuable tonight, for sure, but I don't think we can have him as our top backup guard if we hope to return to the top of the BIG next season. His shooting is way too inconsistent, which absolutely can't be the case if you're going to be playing with Wahl, Gilmore, and Crowl. Also, has far less dribbling and creating ability than our other guards. If he was a 37% 3 point shooter instead of a 30% 3 point shooter, he would be great with his cutting and rebounding ability, but, alas, he generally finds the side of the backboard more than he does the net.
  19. I don't get that, respectfully. 2021 had a lot more questions. Burnes and Woodruff weren't yet established aces. Peralta had yet to have sustained success in the rotation. Lauer was atrocious during the pandemic season and mediocre in San Diego (Also, didn't even end up making the OD rotation). Houser was coming off a negative WAR, 5.30 ERA season. Brett Anderson was persistently on the IL. And the depth options weren't too promising, with a mid-30s Josh Lindblom constantly sucking and Aaron Ashby largely an unknown after a canceled minor league season. We all know how the starting pitching ended up performing... Fast forward a mere two years, and you have 2 established aces, a potential (if healthy) third ace in Peralta, and rock-steady 4/5 starters in Lauer and Miley, with Houser ready to fill in as a capable 6th starter. Of course, a healthy Ashby would be great and erase even more doubt, but compared to 2021, 2020, etc., there's a lot less to be concerned about imo. It's a consensus top rotation in baseball, and one that 20 other teams would easily trade places with.
  20. Again, hoping for a 2nd Cy Young, and a haul for a package of him/Willy this offseason to the Dodgers.
  21. 3 runs should be good enough. Betts, Trout, Goldschmidt, Arenado, and co. just choked.
  22. Cardinals players doing their best to hand the WBC trophy to Japan. Another reason to hate them.
  23. It's more unproven than we're used to, but I think the arms are there.
  24. Houser looked very nice in relief today in addition to his stellar career #s. I think he'll be a welcome, stabilizing addition to the pen.
