  1. I understand not pinch hitting for Perkins as Holderman is particularly tough on righties, but no excuse not to pinch hit for Frelick there. Not a banner day for Murphy.
  2. This is just insane stuff from Skenes.
  3. It sounds like the plan is for him to play one game tonight in Appleton and then return for the Nats series.
  4. Dang'it. Willy's just heating up in time for the All star break.
  5. Lol. It's just as hypothetical as it was in my initial post where I said "If Winker played 1B, he would actually make some sense." You then responded as if it wasn't a hypothetical. Even if you think he's lucky with his 20 point overperformance in wOBA he's still sporting a 70th percentile xwOBA. Which is well above average last time I checked. And, unlike Bauers, he has a history of well above average production.
  6. Here's a good one I was pondering at work today: How many more "good" starts from Misiorowski before you consider A) moving him up to AAA OR (and more controversially) B) skipping AAA entirely and giving him a shot at the show in light of the current issues on the big league staff. Stuff we know is ready to play at the big league level and he's demonstrated meaningful improvements to his control over the course of the season (from 7.09 BB/9 in April/May to 2.63 BB/9 in June/July).... And then an affirmative answer to B raises an entirely different question of how you best deploy him. As a starter? As a bulk relief guy, possibly in a piggyback role? Or in high-leverage relief?
  7. Looks like you're willing to die on this hill. I'll continue to indulge for now. First of all, I never said replace Bauers with Winker because I acknowledged that Winker doesn't play 1B which makes Bauers a better fit for this roster. Second of all, despite their identical xwOBA, Winker has clearly proven himself to be a better hitter and player, both for this season and career-wise. Winker (2024): 134 wRC+, 1.5 fWAR, Winker (career): 122 wRC+, 8.8 fWAR vs. Bauers (2024): 101 wRC+, 0.3 fWAR, Bauers (career): 86 wRC+, -1.0 fWAR. Statcast is awesome and quite the useful tool, but there's more to the game than living and dying by red and blue dots.
  8. No, I just picked the one stat that's all-encompassing and actually representative as to whether a guy is a good hitter relative to average. And that's just purely predictive.... According to the stats measuring actual production, such as wRC+ and OPS+, Winker is a well above average hitter. Both for this season and his career. If anyone's "picking stats" here it's you....Because hitters can have a below average bat speed or EV, for example, and still be good.
  9. People talk about Hiura getting irrational hate from the fanbase, but it seems Winker really did a number on folks, too. Like, yeah, he sucked last year but he also had a pretty solid excuse coming off major neck surgery. Glad that he's rediscovered his form.
  10. If you recall I said “IF Winker played 1B he’d be a fit”. Which clearly means I don’t think he’s a fit on the current roster. And not quite sure where you’re getting it from that Winker is a “below average hitter”. He’s got a 134 wRC+ this season and a 122 wRC + for his career. That’s the literal opposite of below average. Unless you haven’t watched baseball at all since last October…
  11. If you haven't watched baseball since last October, then sure....
  12. Once again, I am not "defending" or "making any case for Winker". I am simply pointing out the illogic in you selectively dismissing A) Winker's much larger sample size of being an effective MLB hitter and B) Hiura's much larger sample size of being a poor hitter as a Brewer Winker received a grand total 166 ABs as a Brewer. Hiura averaged more than that from 2021-2022, a time period in which you persistently claim he was mismanaged and maligned while Winker got "All the breaks to a fault." Why did Winker get those 166 ABs in 2023 and Hiura received 0? Again, because Winker had a much better and more consistent track record of being a good MLB hitter than Hiura AND because Hiura got injured right during the pre-deadline period when they may have considered calling him up.
  13. If Winker played 1B, he would actually make some sense as an upgrade over Bauer and Black.
  14. I'm not "defending Winker". I'm just pointing out the flaws in Rick's logic if he's dismissing even more ABs of Hiura sucking here since 2019.
  15. We played the Braves in the postseason last year? Also, if you're using past seasons and this year, Winker has way more success as a hitter than Hiura....
  16. That two run home run was not a "very catchable ball".
  17. Taking the GG-caliber defender out of RF in "deference" to Frelick. Sigh.....
  18. And promptly goes down swinging on a 92 MPH 4 seamer at the top of the zone. The story of his career unfortunately.
  19. Thank god Brenton Doyle isn't out in CF tonight.
  20. I would say at minimum we need one more SP you're comfortable giving the ball to in a postseason series. Right now we have Freddy and......Love what Rea and Myers have given us, but the likelihood is that they'll get hit hard against postseason lineups. You can probably get away with one or two bullpen games a series, but no more than that. Eovaldi, Scherzer, Flaherty, Gausman etc. are all options that we should be looking into.
  21. Rea with the performance of legends tonight.
