  1. Yeah. Right now, they're using Ashby to ensure that each starter gets 5 days rest between starts. When off days intervene there is no need, but since Peralta, the next guy up in the rotation order, pitched last Friday, they are inserting Ashby to get him that extra day's rest.
  2. And with a little bit of help from the Mets bullpen, the Brewers could have sole possession of first place for the first time this year. If I'm not mistaken, it took until late June for us to get to that point last year. With our upcoming schedule, which includes the Pirates, Cubs, Reds, and Marlins, we could start to build a nice little cushion. Of course, we're not even into May, yet, but any day in first place is a happy day for me.
  3. 12 runs! That is all....
  4. You thinking Reds or Braves? Maybe he and Acuna will make their season debuts together.
  5. If you can't use a "garbage time" long reliever with a 6 run lead, then there is no point in having that reliever on the roster to begin with.
  6. I'll take Sanchez or Luis Perdomo, please. Preferably by game time tomorrow.
  7. No way Urena can still be on the team after tonight. He throws hard, sure. But 96 mph relievers are dime a dozen nowadays and he has absolutely no ability to command his pitches.
  8. My litmus test for keeping a lower leverage reliever is whether they can be counted on to hold a 5+ run lead without involving the "A" bullpen. Urena has failed in that regard and thus he ought to be DFA'd. And this is against a AAA lineup,,,,
  9. How about we don't bring Suter in with inherited runners from now on....
  10. Of course Vogelbach and Gamel start killing us, because why wouldn't they?
  11. 75% in sprint speed so far this year, 89% last year. Just a good throw on a bad pitch to run on. Nice try, though.
  12. Atta boy woody! Way to work around a couple of dinky base hits.
  13. With all this being said, feels like a great time for an offensive breakout, am I right?! After all, this is a team that lost to the Cubs 21-0 this past weekend and just lost their best hitter to the COVID-IL in Reynolds. My totally unsolicited prediction: we hit three dingers tonight (including Yelich) en route to a convincing (for our standards) 8-1 victory.
  14. Also has a negative effect on Hiura, as he is relegated to spot duty against lefties despite his reverse splits. Maximize the talent you have!
  15. Basically right. I'm mostly irritated by the automatic insertion of McCutchen at DH against right-handers, which completely ignores McCutchen's struggles against right-handers since 2019 and Hiura's sizable reverse splits. Basically a matter of a .650 OPS vs. an .830 OPS. As for Cain, I think it's clear he's on his last legs, though he still has some value on defense, and that his playing time should better reflect this. Part of a manager's job is using your talent in the best possible way and setting everyone up to succeed, which I'm not sure Counsell is doing right now.
  16. What I would throw out there tonight (and moving forward against right handers until Urias comes back), fully expecting that it will look nothing like this and probably involve McCutchen and Cain hitting in the 4 and 6 spots... Wong 2B Adames SS Yelich LF Renfroe RF Tellez 1B Hiura DH Narvaez C Taylor CF Peterson 3B Just as I post this the actual lineup is out and it basically confirms my fears re. McCutchen and Cain: Wong 2B Adames SS Yelich LF McCutchen DH Tellez 1B Taylor RF Narvaez C Cain CF Peterson 3B This offense will never be able to realize whatever potential it has until Cain is riding the pine only to be used as a late inning defensive replacement and McCutchen is replaced by Hiura against righties.
  17. Too bad. But it's really up to the other players on this team to step up and contribute at this point. Will also be interesting to see what they opt to do with Severino later in the season, seeing as he was one of our best hitters this spring and we can definitely use a bat,
  18. For those of you in constant panic mode about our offense, here's a nice reassuring chart showing just how much we're underperforming with respect to our expected stats and how much room for growth there is before taking into account potential internal (Urias) and external improvements. As you can see, we are dramatically underperforming our expected stats, while our main rival for the division is among the teams that is overperforming the most. With our elite pitching, which has also underperformed somewhat in the early going, and last year's 95 win campaign the clearest evidence of this team's capabilities, there is absolutely no reason to believe that we are anything but solid favorites to win the division and among the handful of lead contenders in the NL. Does that mean we shouldn't continue to seek avenues to improve the offense? Of course not, and indeed, it might prove to be the key to finally getting over the hump in the postseason. But it nevertheless shows that we should probably temper our frustrations as the season remains but in its mere infancy.
  19. If I see both Cain and McCutchen in the top six of the lineup again tonight I seriously might cry...Thankfully there's a number of guys who have had success against Keller.
  20. How about both? I've seen just about enough of Cain and McCutchen in the same lineup against righties.
