  1. I think people are fine with the general concept of extending him. It's potentially paying a ton of money to a catcher in his early to mid 30s that rightfully scares people.
  2. Well this is a lot better than the first time against Gray.
  3. I think we need to stick with the plan of using this as a "transition year" to our next wave of talent (which Chourio is the centerpiece of). Sure winning is fun, and we've done that for the most part this season, but development must take precedence. Which is part of why I'm frustrated with the roadblocks that guys like Bauers and Dunn to a lesser extent are becoming to our younger guys getting in the lineup. Unless Chourio starts looking completely overmatched at the plate, which he really hasn't (especially lately), the upside of letting him figure things out now against MLB pitching outweighs whatever benefits he can obtain from feasting on AAA pitching. Because the faster he figures things out for us at the major league level the better, and AAA pitching just isn't of a high enough quality these days to serve as an effective substitute. The fact that we're paying him like a major league player right now only adds to that incentive.
  4. We don't really "absolutely know" that Yelich is going to hit the IL 1-3 times a year considering the last two years he's played an average of 150 games. Could he hit the IL again this year? Sure, but it's not a guarantee. Nor do I agree we lack a "true offensive plan". Our offensive plan is to build around Yelich, Contreras, etc. and develop our new wave of young position player talent. We need to develop that talent as a small market team, and there's going to be some bumps along the way.
  5. I guess if you also were willing to call Mike Trout, Bobby Witt Jr., Julio Rodriguez, etc. AAA players after their first 30 games.
  6. They paid him $80 million to develop him in the major leagues. He's 20 years old. They're committed to him as their present and future. He's not even the OFer that should be first up for a demotion. That would be Frelick. Look up Bobby Witt Jr. or Julio Rodriguez's stats over their first 32 games.
  7. Chourio needs to face MLB pitchers. He's already made the first adjustment and is chasing and striking out a lot less.
  8. Chourio is 20. He's also been hitting over .300 over the last week.
  9. Getting ridiculous. Dunn wasn't even supposed to make the team out of ST....
  10. I predicted Megill as the closer once Devin went down in ST. Took a good month, but at least it seems we're there now.
  11. I think they'll probably end up somewhere in the top 12-10 or so of offenses in terms of R/G, which is where they are now. There's some variables including health and the development of the youngsters that will push it up or down that scale.
  12. Despite the ERAs of these two pitchers, I think I would bet on some runs being scored tonight as they're both significantly outperforming their peripherals.
  13. I also never said they were going to go back to hitting at the rate of the first 13 games once Yelich returns. But adding your best hitter w/ an xwOBA of .460 seems pretty dang likely to lead to some positive regression for the offense as a whole. Rhys Hoskins, for example, is someone with a lengthy track record and a career OPS of .841 while currently sporting an OPS almost 100 points below that.... Youngsters carry downside for sure as we're currently witnessing. But they also carry significant upside. I would bet on some figuring it out to a varying extent, and the ones that don't will get less and less ABs as the season goes on. Benefit of having the Brewers' position player prospect depth. You're not pushing all your chips on one or two guys. Anyways, to answer your question. Is this the real Brewers offense? Unlikely. It's almost certainly somewhere in the middle between the first 13 games and the last several weeks. Which is about where it ranks overall now.
  14. Turns out you don't score as many runs when you lose your best hitter over an extended period. Chances are they won't score like they did over the first 13 games. But chances are they won't score like they have been the past few games. What makes this period without their best hitter "the real Brewers offense"?
  15. Brewers had the 2nd best offense in baseball by wRC+ and 3rd best by R/G coming into today....
  16. Assad is due for regression. He's solid, but not close to as good as his ERA.
  17. Zero reason the challenge system shouldn't be here starting next year. A shame it hasn't been installed already.
  18. Turns out the real MVPs of this org are Murph and Arnold.
  19. Chourio is so much more of a priority for this organization than Bauers it’s not even funny. He needs these ABs.
  20. Give me 16-12. Schedule is very favorable.
  21. Hard contact just isn't there. Plate skills haven't been up to snuff either compared to prospect pedigree.
