  1. Steamer projects Rea to be better than Houser, too....
  2. Maybe could use more depth, though Ross helps, but Gasser is projected to be better than Houser, who we lose after the season anyways. Let's not make Houser into more than he is.
  3. Yes. We're all hot shots. The FO has more info than us and a proven track record of success. What's your point?
  4. And we have spent more money than them since Attanasio took over... They've also been to two WS in the last 15 years. I'd take that in a heartbeat even if it meant we spent a little less. We're the literal smallest market in a league where the salary structure decisively favors the biggest markets. These types of deals are just something we have to live with.
  5. This. A lot of Brewers fans have a hard time comprehending that we're a smaller market than the Rays and A's (for now), who are literal penny pinchers.
  6. So you're telling me this FO potentially knows more than the hotshots on Brewerfanatic?
  7. Steamer projects us to get better by replacing Taylor and Houser's playing time with Chourio and Gasser, while having increased payroll flexibility? That's not exactly headscratching. It's doing what the Rays do. Would I have preferred the return to be a little heavier? Sure. What fan wouldn't. But I also realize that Taylor and Houser are replaceable players and that we're trying to get younger and cheaper in an effort to open up a longer window of contention.
  8. It's not, but these are the types of projections major league teams use to build their rosters and are more accurate than not in the long run. Rea is also 4 years younger than Miley....
  9. Also, for everyone getting all up in arms over giving up one year of Houser, Steamer projects a rookie Gasser to be more valuable than Houser this year.... Bottom line: This is largely a nothing burger and doesn't inhibit this year's roster, while providing for increased flexibility for the future. Houser and Taylor are being replaced by younger, higher upside prospects. If the Brewers were solely interested in cutting payroll this offseason, you'd be seeing a trade of Yelich.
  10. RIP to @clancyphile's dream of extending Houser.
  11. Any trade of Burnes and Adames to the Dodgers has to start with Emmet Sheehan. Pure and simple. It's going to have to sting for the Dodgers.
  12. Everyone wants to be the Rays. This is exactly what the Rays do. It's how they got Junior Caminero, not that I think Coleman Crow is that type of prospect.
  13. Please explain how committing a record sum to a guy without major league experience is a cheap move. It's literally the opposite of cheap. We're the smallest market in baseball. If Chourio plays how everyone thinks he will, we have ZERO chance to sign him beyond his age 26 season and after a few years would be in the situation the Nats were with Soto. It's being smart and taking a risk financially.
  14. Honestly, it's not that big of an ask for Gasser et al to replace Houser's production. And if we're taking a step back, I'd rather get Gasser some innings than go with Houser who's gone in a year and is going to get paid more in arbitration.
  15. Maybe because people aren't all about instantaneous hot takes and are waiting to see how the rest of the offseason plays out. And it does make at least some sense considering they had zero space on the 40 man and need to open up room in the OF for Chourio.
  16. They're committing a record sum to a guy without major league experience. That's totally not cheap.
  17. In the long run, this deal isn't going to kill us as Taylor and Houser are just guys, with Houser having only one year of control left. We'll see what else they do as far as this season goes. We needed roster space and room for Chourio. You're probably looking at an OD OF of Yelich, Chourio, and Frelick, which I'd gladly sign up for.
  18. FWIW, we had zero room available on the 40 man roster after the Haas signing. This creates two open spots.
  19. Not surprising they would trade Taylor, as this is effectively clearing up a spot for Chourio. Houser is a surprise..
  20. Legitimate concern. We'll see what happens. FA and trade market in hold until Yamamoto signs. I'd imagine some competitive offers for Burnes will come in after that. They'll need to make a decision. Hopefully they can play the Yamamoto losers against each other.
  21. Looks like they're just biding their time until May/June when they can bring Quero up. By the end of the season, Contreras was playing pretty much every day anyways.
