  1. Right. People hating this deal are making the assumption that we won’t spend the savings, and that MA will just pocket them. Which is a pretty big assumption to make at this stage of the off-season.
  2. I'd love a Walcott, Porter, Rocker package from the Rangers. That might be my favorite deal other than the Dodgers giving us Sheehan in a Burnes/Adames deal. A lot of risk with Walcott being a teenager in the low minors and Rocker recovering from TJ, but a potential big-time, premium talent payoff.
  3. I think I might do that. Though, I prefer Lee to Julien as I personally think Lee will stick at SS.
  4. Then, I wouldn't trade Burnes to the Twins. You have the Brewers getting zero top 100 prospects for Burnes, which doesn't make sense when Scherzer and Verlander even at their salaries did. Polanco does nothing for a retooling Brewers team.
  5. Baghdad bob? LOL. I've criticized this organization plenty. This particular trade, however, is a nothing-burger. You were so certain and made it known to us all that Bauers was going to be the starting first baseman. By most indications, he will not be. Likely, it will be Santana, who proved to be a boon (along with Canha) to this team last season.
  6. Take out Polanco and give me Brooks Lee. I do love Festa, who I think has real mid rotation potential, but he's not really a prospect headliner for Burnes. I'd consider that deal depending on what offers we potentially get from Dodgers, Rangers, etc. Polanco has little use for a retooling Brewers team, which is what you're committing to if you're trading Burnes.
  7. Still at least we'll have signed Santana, when you told us Jake Bauers was going to be the starting first baseman.
  8. It's nice work on a strict value basis, but it's not really changing their organizational outlook much. Houser is gone after this year, Marceaux is a fringe top 30 organizational prospect, and Taylor is a 30 year old league average hitter. They might be more competitive this year, but is it enough in the NL East? They really should trade Pete Alonso. Angels are also just a really stupid organization.
  9. Yeah. But even then Miley is still projected to be Houser.... We're making Houser into more than he is. There's arguably more untapped upside with Rea than Houser at this point, despite Rea being a few years older than Houser. They did just sign Ross as additional rotation depth. I'd imagine they'd get even more in a Burnes trade. And then you have Rodriguez, Misiorowski, etc. starting to knock on the door. We lose Houser in a year, and if we are retooling, I'd rather go with the younger, higher upside guy now. Could we have gotten more for Houser (and Taylor)? Maybe. But I'm not going to lose sleep over it when it doesn't even make us worse on paper in the immediate term, while providing us increased flexibility and upside in the future.
  10. Arnold did say Ashby's velocity was pretty much back in his season ending presser. Will be interesting to see what role they have planned for him.
  11. Steamer projects Rea to be better than Houser, too....
  12. Maybe could use more depth, though Ross helps, but Gasser is projected to be better than Houser, who we lose after the season anyways. Let's not make Houser into more than he is.
  13. Yes. We're all hot shots. The FO has more info than us and a proven track record of success. What's your point?
  14. And we have spent more money than them since Attanasio took over... They've also been to two WS in the last 15 years. I'd take that in a heartbeat even if it meant we spent a little less. We're the literal smallest market in a league where the salary structure decisively favors the biggest markets. These types of deals are just something we have to live with.
  15. This. A lot of Brewers fans have a hard time comprehending that we're a smaller market than the Rays and A's (for now), who are literal penny pinchers.
  16. So you're telling me this FO potentially knows more than the hotshots on Brewerfanatic?
  17. Steamer projects us to get better by replacing Taylor and Houser's playing time with Chourio and Gasser, while having increased payroll flexibility? That's not exactly headscratching. It's doing what the Rays do. Would I have preferred the return to be a little heavier? Sure. What fan wouldn't. But I also realize that Taylor and Houser are replaceable players and that we're trying to get younger and cheaper in an effort to open up a longer window of contention.
  18. It's not, but these are the types of projections major league teams use to build their rosters and are more accurate than not in the long run. Rea is also 4 years younger than Miley....
  19. Also, for everyone getting all up in arms over giving up one year of Houser, Steamer projects a rookie Gasser to be more valuable than Houser this year.... Bottom line: This is largely a nothing burger and doesn't inhibit this year's roster, while providing for increased flexibility for the future. Houser and Taylor are being replaced by younger, higher upside prospects. If the Brewers were solely interested in cutting payroll this offseason, you'd be seeing a trade of Yelich.
  20. RIP to @clancyphile's dream of extending Houser.
  21. Any trade of Burnes and Adames to the Dodgers has to start with Emmet Sheehan. Pure and simple. It's going to have to sting for the Dodgers.
  22. Everyone wants to be the Rays. This is exactly what the Rays do. It's how they got Junior Caminero, not that I think Coleman Crow is that type of prospect.
