  1. Odds aren't zero, but they're not desperate enough now to trade prospects for a one year rental. Not Friedman's style.
  2. They don’t need to. Rotation of Yamamoto, Glasnow, Miller, Sheehan, Buehler.
  3. Burnes to Dodgers dream is officially over.
  4. What is the point of this post? If they made this trade, I can sure as heck tell you I wouldn’t be happy with it.
  5. Another terrible trade proposal from the biased national media... https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10101874-7-trade-ideas-for-mlbs-most-eager-buyers-and-sellers
  6. I mean, it's Fangraphs.... You're free to dig up any articles you please.
  7. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/tinker-taylor-houser-crow/ Calls trade a "win win" for both teams. Interestingly, says it's around the best return the Brewers could have gotten for both players, but still mostly about a salary dump. Worth a quick read.
  8. I don't think I've ever thought more of Taylor and Houser than I do now after the trade. I wanted Houser to be replaced by Gasser in the rotation during the season. Taylor had a huge hot streak to end the season and we were able to ride that, but it's still at best a league average bat. Not poo pooing them, just acknowledging them to be the replaceable players they are. I can understand being underwhelmed with the return. Maybe they could have gotten another player. But it's really not much of a needle mover in the grand scheme of things. I want them to play Chourio, Gasser, etc.
  9. Sure, but let's not pretend like Houser and Taylor have a ton of value. I would acknowledge they likely received less than their full value here, but I would agree with BTV that it's a moderate underpay at most. Which I'm not going to lose sleep over when a) I don't have knowledge of what the Brewers are planning next and b) Taylor and Houser are 30 something replaceable parts. And even if the plan is to contend, I would argue they're better off making the upside play with Chourio, Gasser, etc. in their stead. Doesn't always work out, but it worked out for the Rangers and Reds this year, for example.
  10. And how is that not beneficial for a retooling? A Burnes/Adames/Williams trade is likely creating more 40 man spots that will need to be filled.
  11. You also have to look at who we have to replace those guys, though. Steamer projects Chourio and Gasser to outproduce Taylor and Houser for this season.
  12. I mean Chourio also is in a different prospect stratosphere from those guys....Not saying he'll produce like Acuna Jr. or Tatis Jr., but I don't see why we should expect Chourio or Black to struggle to the extent of Turang or Wiemer. Steamer expects him to outproduce Tyrone Taylor, and that's a conservative projection.
  13. The Brewers have been among the top spenders this offseason in terms of guaranteed money.... And we're talking about what? $6-7 million in savings. A Santana signing, which we should expect at this point, takes care of that.
  14. Right. People hating this deal are making the assumption that we won’t spend the savings, and that MA will just pocket them. Which is a pretty big assumption to make at this stage of the off-season.
  15. I'd love a Walcott, Porter, Rocker package from the Rangers. That might be my favorite deal other than the Dodgers giving us Sheehan in a Burnes/Adames deal. A lot of risk with Walcott being a teenager in the low minors and Rocker recovering from TJ, but a potential big-time, premium talent payoff.
  16. I think I might do that. Though, I prefer Lee to Julien as I personally think Lee will stick at SS.
  17. Then, I wouldn't trade Burnes to the Twins. You have the Brewers getting zero top 100 prospects for Burnes, which doesn't make sense when Scherzer and Verlander even at their salaries did. Polanco does nothing for a retooling Brewers team.
  18. Baghdad bob? LOL. I've criticized this organization plenty. This particular trade, however, is a nothing-burger. You were so certain and made it known to us all that Bauers was going to be the starting first baseman. By most indications, he will not be. Likely, it will be Santana, who proved to be a boon (along with Canha) to this team last season.
  19. Take out Polanco and give me Brooks Lee. I do love Festa, who I think has real mid rotation potential, but he's not really a prospect headliner for Burnes. I'd consider that deal depending on what offers we potentially get from Dodgers, Rangers, etc. Polanco has little use for a retooling Brewers team, which is what you're committing to if you're trading Burnes.
  20. Still at least we'll have signed Santana, when you told us Jake Bauers was going to be the starting first baseman.
  21. It's nice work on a strict value basis, but it's not really changing their organizational outlook much. Houser is gone after this year, Marceaux is a fringe top 30 organizational prospect, and Taylor is a 30 year old league average hitter. They might be more competitive this year, but is it enough in the NL East? They really should trade Pete Alonso. Angels are also just a really stupid organization.
  22. Yeah. But even then Miley is still projected to be Houser.... We're making Houser into more than he is. There's arguably more untapped upside with Rea than Houser at this point, despite Rea being a few years older than Houser. They did just sign Ross as additional rotation depth. I'd imagine they'd get even more in a Burnes trade. And then you have Rodriguez, Misiorowski, etc. starting to knock on the door. We lose Houser in a year, and if we are retooling, I'd rather go with the younger, higher upside guy now. Could we have gotten more for Houser (and Taylor)? Maybe. But I'm not going to lose sleep over it when it doesn't even make us worse on paper in the immediate term, while providing us increased flexibility and upside in the future.
  23. Arnold did say Ashby's velocity was pretty much back in his season ending presser. Will be interesting to see what role they have planned for him.
