  1. Semantics. They both overperformed to a significant degree... Why would you trade Frelick for a Julien who produces more in line with what Steamer is projecting from him? If he hit the ball a little harder and in the air more to be more of a 3 TO hitter, I might consider it, but otherwise you're looking an on base specialist who can't field and doesn't give you any value on the base-paths. Frelick has his own power questions, but otherwise gives you value everywhere else on the field and at a premium position if you needed him there.
  2. Yeah, it's quite possible Wilken comes back and kills AA pitching like he did which would make a call-up at some point all but certain.
  3. I would trade Mitchell or Wiemer for Julien, but I doubt the Twins go for that right now. Maybe revisit next winter.
  4. Julien makes more contact than Hiura did, but certainly not better contact,,,, I'm strictly comparing their rookie seasons because that's all we have to go on from Julien right now.
  5. Not every patient hitter carries a 30+% K rate, though....And as I said, Hiura hit the ball harder than Julien so that helps cancel things out. I don't believe I said it was a perfect comparison. Point is both overperformed their peripherals during their rookie seasons, and don't have defense/baserunning to fall back on to compensate. Julien likely to have a softer landing than Hiura did due to his on base ability, but something close to his Steamer projection seems likely. Not worth trading for Frelick who gives you value across the board and is a safer bet than our other outfielders.
  6. Hiura's rookie K rate was actually better than Julian's, though...And he hit the ball harder. Regardless, I would not trade Julien's expected or projected production with the bat (which is where he gets all of his value from) for Sal Frelick,
  7. I already acknowledged that one big difference is Julien walks a lot more than Hiura. But then Hiura has superior power... Meanwhile, ways in which they're similar are worrisome. Huge K and whiff rates. Stellar rookie season propped up by high BABIP/batted ball luck. Iffy/awful defense which leads to profile being entirely dependent on bat, etc. I don't think Julien will bottom out like Hiura did due to his on base ability, but I also don't think the Julien we saw last year is representative of the Julien we'll get moving forward. His Steamer projection looks about right to me: .239/.357/.399 1.8 fWAR in 543 PAs I would not trade that for Frelick....
  8. I’d definitely do number 2. Would do number 1 if we trade Adames. 3 is more up in the air for me. Julien had a terrific season last year which we could certainly use in our lineup, but id be pretty nervous about him turning into another Keston Hiura. Julien walks more than Hiura, but other than that the similarities are pretty terrifying. So, I’d probably pass as I value Frelick 2nd to Chourio among our OF prospects.
  9. Some pretty hefty competition for Chourio....
  10. I think it increases their willingness to part with the necessary prospects for Burnes. Friedman has also been a prospect hoarder to an extent, so this deal helps counteract that by making them more desperate to win a WS with the Betts, Freeman, Ohtani core. Of course, the same also applies to Glasnow and Cease, so we'll see. I don't see them being involved with Yamamoto now.
  11. This is triple what Attanasio paid for the entire Brewers franchise....
  12. Incredible. But I guess that's what you pay for the modern day Babe Ruth... Man, JP Morosi is going to be public enemy #1 in Toronto...
  13. Bottom line is you're involved in a lot more plays at 1B....That's added wear and tear on the back and just as violent at times as crashing into the wall, which Yelich most definitely doesn't do that often. It's not near as logical as moving him from LF to DH my man...Unless the Brewers plan on signing a Kyle Schwarber any time soon. If it was in the cards, you wouldn't have gotten the answer from the Brewers brass that you got this week at the Winter Meetings. It is, in fact, a pipedream at this point.
  14. The logic: You're moving and bending down a lot more than in the OF. Involved in more plays, More violent actions on quicker hit balls, etc. Seems pretty straightforward to me. And how many times is Yelich actually running back into the wall over the course of the season at a high enough speed to potentially injure his back? You can probably count them on one hand, if that...And we don't even know if Yelich would be a serviceable 1B. Just because he played it in HS, doesn't mean he can do so at a major league caliber level. How many games did Braun actually play at 1B? That's the point. Especially with the DH now an option, which it wasn't until Braun's final season. That's how you manage a guy with chronic back issues whose value predominantly comes from the bat.
  15. 2X Tommy John is in no way a death sentence nowadays. See Eovaldi, Nathan. And who else is going to give you value on the mound in addition to having an MVP caliber bat? If anything, his bat is insurance against the contract turning into a "disaster". You're probably one on the few on earth who legitimately thinks this.
  16. If I were Ohtani, I'd go straight to Japanese media whenever the decision is made after how the American press has handled this.
  17. It's not just Ohtani, it's Yamamoto, too, which would affect Burnes' market.
  18. NVM I'll believe Bowden...What a circus.
  19. I mean he's also got the whole pitching thing (resuming in 2025) and averaging 9.5 WAR over the past three seasons....
  20. Crazy fact I realized today: Jackson Chourio is more than a decade younger than Tyrone Taylor, who is just now entering his first season of arbitration.....
  21. Need to give up on Yelich to 1B pipe-dream. It's never happening. Just like he's never getting traded. Would be the worst thing to do for a guy with his back issues. If he's ever moving from LF, it's straight to DH. We've finally got a version of Yelich where we're getting decent value out of that contract. Best to not mess with that.
  22. Arias and Hampton would be a great start.
  23. I think it's going to be 12 years and over $600 million.
  24. Hope the Giants sign Bellinger now, and the Cubs are left worse off than last year.
  25. Ohtani is going to the Jays. He's not flying there to tell them he's not coming.
