  1. I think it depends on him being comfortable with more than just his fastball. He's pretty much all fastball currently (with usage rates falling for his other pitches), that could be a result of moving to the bullpen, or lack or comfort with (or control of) his other pitches could be the reason he's in the bullpen. If he's going to be all FB-CH or FB-SL, he probably winds up in the bullpen. If he can at least flash the third pitch, I think he can start.
  2. For me, I don't see how this is related to the trade at all. He's a free agent. Resigning him is completely independent of the trade. They could have kept Cordell and signed Swarzak in the off-season. While there might be a slight chance their odds of signing him are increased by him playing in MKE for ten weeks, the reality is he's not likely signing an extension in August or September (has that ever happened?). Swarzak will be playing for the team that offers him the largest contract next year. Getting traded mid-year doesn't change that.
  3. Slightly off topic, but with Ueck's reduced schedule this year, I've come to enjoy Jeff Levering and Lane Grindle together on the radio. Ueck is great, though I think he's lost a step over the years. The booth with no former player "analyst" is a nice change of pace.
  4. I have a feeling they're looking forward to the inevitable Bryce Harper free agency after next season.
  5. Hopefully his wife joins him so she can get reacquainted with Garza.
  6. I will second the Tom James recommendation. Their suits are nice, but the custom shirts are worth every penny.
  7. 25th & Becher. I believe Don Money had a bar too, but Stormin' & Vuke's is the one people remember. Can you even imagine that today? Those places were a little different than Ryan Braun's Waterfront Grille, or whatever that place was called.
  8. On the post game show, I think they just said Thames just had hamstring tightness, but nothing serious.
  9. Radio broadcast saying he either had a bloody nose or seemed sick.
  10. I was just talking about him the other night, and the nickname he had among some around here - The Kama Sutra! Because he knew all the positions (hey-o!)
  11. From Keith Law's chat yesterday, he's not a believer in Otani's bat. Ricky: If/When Otani comes over, is he viewed as a two way player? Keith Law: Nope. This is going to be the most-asked question of 2017, I think. NPB pitching is not close to MLB pitching as a whole.
  12. How could you possibly know what "attempts" either player made in the off-season. For all we know, they could have offered and worked out all winter with a 1B glove, but Stearns told them to stay in the OF once Thames was signed.
  13. The Cubs wouldn't trade either of these guys straight up for Braun. To get them both, we'd need to pay all of Braun's remaining salary and throw in Miller Park (which the Cubs pretty much own already anyway). Even that's probably not enough.
  14. Turns out he has a coke problem and is in rehab. Don't think we want to touch him. Are you sure you're not confusing him with Ian Khahloa?
  15. I'm not getting too excited about the PTBNL, because if it was at all dependent on Thornburg, it won't be much, since he's hurt.
  16. I'm just glad the Carlos Gomez haters have a new favorite.
  17. I'm all for wearing just Brewer hats to Brewer games, but I'll admit to having a closet full of other hats that I think are cool. Mostly throwbacks, like the Mariners trident M or this one:
  18. I think they've already said they're preparing Jungmann for relief, so the 5th starter comes down to Garza or Anderson. I'm guessing they'll move Anderson to the pen in long relief and keep Garza in the rotation on a short leash.
  19. I'm just the opposite - I'd much rather tailgate or eat at home than buy food in the park. But I'll always have a beer or three while I'm there. The prices are high, but the Brewers still have the most liberal carry-in policy I think I've ever seen.
  20. Completely agree. I think teams underestimate having a big bat on the bench. I hate the combination of 13 arms (which is completely unnecessary in my opinion) and weak bench bats. Nothing snuffs out a late inning rally like "now batting, pinch hitter Colin Walsh," or, heaven help me, Logan Schafer.
  21. I don't think 10/5 rights will be a big deal. He already has a no-trade clause to all but his preferred destinations. As several people have mentioned, I think Braun would support the Brewers rebuild, and thus a trade. 10/5 doesn't mean he can't be traded, he just has to approve it. If an option came along to go to LA or SF, particularly if it was a deadline deal to a team in the pennant race, I think Braun would accept without issue. At worst, he'd negotiate to make the 2021 option guaranteed. That would likely increase the cash the Brewers send, or lessen the return, but it doesn't preclude a deal.
  22. I've always stayed at the Westin, which is quite nice and only a couple blocks away.
  23. Keith Law has a bunch of posts on his personal blog about eating in Phoenix, as well as a spring training guide. Not updated since last year, but still a nice resource. http://meadowparty.com/blog/tag/phoenix/
