  1. I don't think there's any chance they trade Broxton this off-season. Partly because of his short track record, but mostly because he's coming off a broken wrist, which can wreak havoc on hitting, particularly bat speed (Rickie Weeks nods in agreement).
  2. AirBnB is the way to go in Chicago. Cheaper than hotels and a lot of options in areas without hotels (like Wrigleyville). I'm in Chicago a few times a year and rarely stay in a hotel anymore.
  3. Thornburg has always been one of my favorites, but I love this deal. The prospects, particularly Dubon, seem like a nice haul, but I feel like Thornburg's elbow is on borrowed time. He's one of the few hard throwers that tried the "rest/rehab instead of surgery" option with success. That would make me concerned for future elbow issues.* *I'm not a doctor, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.
  4. Hopefully they don't overpay in terms of prospects or money. Philly needs / wants to trade Papelbon a lot more then any team needs to trade for him. This might just be my perception, but I feel like the Brewers get focused on a player & forget they're bidding against themselves. Hopefully there are times when DM walks away from the table, and we just don't hear about it. Edit: I'd be shocked if Philly pays more than $10MM of the $26MM.
  5. Pretty sure someone from Brewerfan.net needs to buy The Shea Vucinich jersey, just on principle.
  6. Lakefront just released their 2nd 25th anniversary beer, an apricot Belgian ale. I like Belgians, but don't usually enjoy fruit beers. Sine it was an absolutely perfect day on my patio and I can see the brewery, I walked over & picked up a 4-pack. It was not sweet at all. In fact, I didn't even taste apricot until I was just about done with it. Very subtle.
  7. Section 220 Row 3 2 seats Face is $48, looking for $80 for the pair.
  8. I remember catching a little of the Grammys earlier this year and commenting that I can't believe I live in a world where "3-time Grammy Award winner Skrillex" is an actual thing. But that might say more about the Grammys than anything else.
  9. Hamilton has already said he's going wherever the most money is, since he wants to start a foundation. Somehow I don't think that's going to be Milwaukee, Narrons be damned. I think the whole "Narron factor" is overblown anyway. If some team wanted Hamilton that bad, I'm sure they could find a way to pry Johnny Narron away from the Brewers.
  10. I had the Upland Oktoberfest last week. It was pretty good. They're out of Indiana and I think they have limited availability in the midwest.
  11. 36, Trout. And really not a question for me.
  12. Had to dig this thread up after the game last night. A little backstory - My ex-wife cuts Manny Parra's hair. She's talked to him about our kids and when she last saw him, she told him that I was taking our 5 year old to Tuesday night's game. Manny said to come out near the bullpen and get Marcus Hanel's attention. So we go out there around the 3rd inning, call down from the 200 level bleachers. Hanel gets Manny, who waives to the little guy and tells us to wait until the half-inning. While we waited, I almost caught (got impailed by?) the Maldonado grand slam. After the inning, Manny tosses up an autographed ball. Say what you want about some of these players (actually, don't - let's remember the good times). It's the end of the season, meaningless game, and didn't even have to come out of the little bullpen shelter. But he did, and he absolutely made a 5-year old's day.
  13. I think he'll certainly be available, since he's openly criticized Cleveland's front-office. I'm not sure the Brewers are going to be too interested in bullpen guys with that salary level, as he'll certainly get a raise from teh $4.5MM he made this year. I'd like to keep as much flexibilty as possible and bring in a lot of lower priced guys for spring training. Once you hitch your wagon to one or two guys you're stuck. It might work, like Hawkins & Saito in '11 (for the most part), or it might not (2012 Loe & Veras).
  14. Had to bump this after Matthew Sweet came to MKE on the "Girlfriend" 20th anniversary tour last night. Great show - "Girlfriend" is a phenomenal album and he encored with a couple from "100% Fun." Matthew Sweet has not aged well physically - he's probably pushing 250 lbs, but he sounds awesome and seemed genuinely excited that people were there to watch him play music. He told some cool stories about the album during the show as well. I highly recommend it if he comes to your town. Also, this show had one of the narrowest age ranges of any show I've been to. 90% of the crowd was probably 32-38.
  15. I would politely let them know you're filing a complaint with the state. In Wisconsin, it's the Department of Workforce Development, the complaint form is here: http://dwd.wisconsin.gov/dwd/forms/ERD/pdf/ls_119.pdf
  16. Rosters announced. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/167875745.html Johnny Hellweg Nick Bucci Jimmy Nelson Santo Manzanillo Kyle Heckathorn Khris Davis Brock Kjeldgaard Hunter Morris
  17. And he takes the secret of the faked moon landing to his grave.
  18. Joe Sheehan made a good point on Twitter last night. It's going to be fun to listen to all the defenses of Armstrong and just substitute the name "Barry Bonds."
  19. I know that the Brewers are on the hook for his salary for the rest of the year, but if someone picks him up, do they assume the buyout / option? If so, I can't imagine anyone picking him up.
  20. Who likes breathing? If you answered "I do!", then maybe you'll help my family fight lung disease. One of my family members is running her first marathon (Chicago) in October. She's part of the American Lung Association's O2 Runners, a group that raises money in connection with runs, walks and rides across the country. She's doing it because clearly I'm just a message board user living in my mom's basement. I know times are tough for a lot of us and you have a lot of choices for your charitable giving, but every little bit helps. Maybe you enjoy my posts, maybe I've said something signature-worthy (Byzentines!), or maybe you just like to help out. In any case, I'd appreciate anything any of you can do. 21. Completely agree. It wouldn't be my choice, but I can see DM doing it, particularly if Hart approaches the team about an extension.
  22. First off, great write up. This is way more than I know about a lot of these guys and it's clear you've put a lot of time into this. I wouldn't dismiss LF for Davis. I wouldn't use Brewers positional needs as part of the formula for ranking. Many of these guys might make the majors in another uniform. Just because Milwaukee doesn't see a need for LF doesn't mean another team won't. In fact, Davis is the kind of good offense, questionable defense player Melvin has spun off in the past. It's not hard to envision a scenario where Hart re-ups and moves back to RF, with some combination of Gamel / Morris at 1B, making Davis an attractive trade chip, particularly if he continues to hit.
  23. --Standing under the confetti coming from the MP roof in 2008 and 2011. --Seeing the genesis of the "Diego" Edmonds nickname live.
  24. Sadly, Bill Michels probably doesn't know that Mat Gamel exists.
  25. Speaking of kids in a different technological generation, a friend of mine was working on spelling homework with his son. When being quizzed on the words, the son couldn't understand why "eyebrow" wasn't spelled "iBrow". Somewhere Steve Jobs is smiling.
